Wait and See!
I think the biggest news from NAB 2011 this year was the $299 announcement from Apple regarding Final Cut Pro X in the wake of the Adobe release of CS5.5 and cloud computing. Fantastic. I find it amusing people think they must make a choice. If you use one, you can't use the other. If you like coke, you can't enjoy pepsi. If you drink coffee, don't drink tea. Get your head out of your ass. Use what your budget can afford. Use what works for you to tell a story. Simple. I'm fairly certain the two packages aren't supposed to be compared let alone be competitors...rather a wonderful way to unite a very divided, black and white world. The tools have been placed in front of you and they will work much better in 2011 than they did in 2008. They should. Apple has always said it best "Think Differently". Are you? My favorite aspect of NAB this year was no doubt "social networking". Not via twitter but face to face. Eye to eye. Truly a social world we live in and wonderful to meet and see so many of the personalities many of us follow and admire. I won't even make references to the 5000 lbs cocks in the room. Oh wait, I just did. The coolest things I saw this year were Eric Kessler and his prototype gadgets and his willingness to take the time to chat with anyone who approached him, Philip Bloom's poker face, Preston Ryon and his flying camera rig, the van parked in the GOPro booth, and Thinkom - mobile high speed connectivity... anywhere. I'm hugely excited for the developments that are finally public knowledge. I tell you though, waiting around for anything? I don't. Adapt, implement, roll...have a productive Wednesday folks. I will. You should too.
Best regards,
Ben Pieper
