i haven't been on tumblr that much in the past couple weeks. to be honest, i've been dealing with some minor health related issues and in general, being busy with life. i won't get into much of the specifics publicly because i prefer this tumblr not be entirely personal, but if anyone wants to talk to me privately i'm fine with that. not sure when i'll be blogging like i used to again. just trying to get through the month.

I’m only saying you’ve got that barren autumn/winter woodscape on perfect display w/ Roger Deakins’ cinematography, the most beautiful score in the history of film, and the soul of the entire movie: that absolutely crushing intimacy between Lucius and Ivy

they are both so kind and brave and they love one another so much, and because Lucius practically doesn’t speak, that love is almost exclusively conveyed through gesture and body language, doing instead of saying. and Shyamalan and Joaquin Phoenix and Bryce Dallas Howard pull it off so well I almost can’t believe it’s a real movie

like the scene where Ivy is standing in the doorway waiting for Lucius to get safely to her (because he’s out helping secure other houses and he’s making sure everyone else is safe before he’ll get himself to safety) and the creatures are there they’re in the village and they’re coming but she won’t step back and close the door (her sister is begging her to, her sister is convinced he’s already gotten to safety but Ivy knows him as well as she knows herself and she knows he’ll be the last one to lock his door and she will not leave him out there alone in the dark). she is literally blind and can’t even see him (or the approaching threat) but she knows he’s going to come to her and she just stands there with her hand outstretched for so long, too long as the creatures approach and then, then his hand seizes hers, and he’s there and he’s barring the door and they’re safe and they’re together and he hasn’t touched her in years but he doesn’t let go of her hand for the rest of the night and I’m an absolute puddle on the floor
