Nadia Appreciation Week Day 1: Tinkering
@nadia-appreciation-week
Tinkering is meditative and endlessly rewarding for Nadia no matter how many experiments fail. She’s not the type to get frustrated when something in her construction doesn’t work out as she planned it, or when she accidentally breaks something after a misjudgment in handling. Instead, she makes a note of the incident in a journal where she keeps all her design blueprints and commentary, eager to try a new approach as many times as she needs until it works flawlessly.
Oh, and that journal? Don’t expect to recognize the handwriting inside. It’s not anything like Nadia’s elegant script, no. It’s loose, it’s hurried, it’s peppered with sketches and diagrams with more notes and arrows cramped around them. For this reason, aside from her value of privacy, she will never allow anyone to look inside.
Modern!Nadia has a whole garage converted into a woodworking and metalworking shop outfitted with state-of-the-art machinery and a 3D printer. (Side note: Modern!Nadia with her hair tied back, sleeves rolled up, and wearing safety goggles while using a wood plane or band saw… *sighs dreamily*)
Modern!Nadia is also a life-hack queen. Inconveniences of daily life are no match for her innovative mind. She isn’t really into the viral life-hack videos since many of them are not legitimate or are simply more frivolous work than they’re worth. Practicality wins over flashiness when it comes to simplifying daily tasks (though she does have a keen sense for making her inventions attractive). But she does watch those viral videos from time to time just in case she sees something she can learn from or improve on.
The library door is not the only thing in the palace created by Nadia. She’s created and installed several more locking mechanisms here and there, none as grandiose as the library door, but all uniquely hers. In addition, she’s designed specialized tools and gadgets for use by some servants where necessary. Think along the lines of the Slap Chop for her chefs.
If you have your own intricate hobbies that you tinker with, Nadia loves to learn about them alongside you and watch you work on projects. She would love to help you, too.
Whether you want a place to do your hobbies on your own or with her as she does hers, she will make space for you. She has tools, materials, and other means to provide you with the supplies you need for your projects.
Nadia’s penchant for tinkering doesn’t just concern the mechanical and craftsmanship realms. It’s more like a part of her personality and way of life.
She likes a fair bit of healthy challenge to figure out what makes things tick—what makes people tick.
She will accurately work out your likes and dislikes simply by observing you without much need for asking directly. She is very adaptable to the people around her because of this. It’s no wonder why the outfits she designs for the people she loves are so perfectly tailored not only to their bodies, but also to their personalities.
