Laral Wistiow is so fucking tragic. Like we see her through Kal's perspective: she's his friend but is kinda shitty in that "ignorant rich kid" kinda way, then a lighteyed boy comes around and she starts treating Kaladin like dirt, then we don't see her for a long time but when we do she's defending Roshone so we aren't supposed to like her...
But while, yeah, she did think going to war was the right choice for Kaladin when she and Tien were ten and Kal was twelve (TWoK Chapter 16 takes place in 1164), they were kids, and Kal rightly gets upset at the idea.
The Rillir shows up when she's twelve, right after her only living family member dies, and she develops a crush on the teenager she's living with and starts to treat Kaladin (and all darkeyes) shitty. Which, while, again it's not right, she's twelve.
Then she's forced to marry Citylord Roshone and has twin children with him when she's somewhere between the ages of 13 and 19 (and with them iirc not being portrayed as infants in RoW it's likely that she was under 18, which even when translated to earth years is only 19 years old.)
Like, yeah, she is a dick to Kaladin when he comes and tries to "save" her but imagine the stories she's had to tell herself just to sleep next to the man who took her father's place, who had sex with her, who she'd been engaged to since she was at least 14 (earth years) old, who is the reason that both a boy her age and his older brother—the man she spent the first decade of her life loving and spending time with—are sent to what she thought was their deaths?
Not a Laral did nothing wrong post. Just another "wow everyone in this series is tragic" post.
