By a single point, the Blue Lock Eleven defeated Japan's U-20 team. The stadium erupted into chaos, chants and cheers echoing in celebration. In one night, they had rewritten their fates.
For Nagi, it was a night to remember—his effortlessly brilliant goal in the first half sealed their victory. The team lifted him onto their shoulders, but his expression remained flat.
"Come on, Nagi! Show us emotion!" someone called out, but Nagi didn't bother to look. Too much hassle.
I've already used my muscles for 90 minutes nonstop. Smiling? That's just another hassle, he thought.
It wasn't that he didn't care about the victory. But the truth was, the trophy meant little to him. Nagi hadn't played to win for himself. His drive came from something else—something more powerful.
Being hoisted up gave Nagi a clear view of the field. And there, amidst the chaos, he spotted a familiar pair of violet eyes glowing under the stadium lights.
Before he could think, he jumped down and ran. His body moved instinctively, drawn to Reo as if by gravity.
Wrapping his arms around him, Nagi pulled Reo close. Their chests pressed together, heartbeats blending into one steady rhythm. The noise of the crowd faded away. It was just the two of them.
"Did you see me, Reo?" Nagi's voice was soft but firm, his grip tightening. "I made it worth it. I made myself worthy of you."
Warm tears soaked through his jersey, and Nagi realized they weren't his own. The world watched, but for him, it had disappeared. There was no one else—only Reo.
Nagi kept the memory of their victory tucked away, like a treasure he couldn't let go. It wasn't their first win—far from it—but the night they defeated the U-20 team felt different. It was monumental. It was theirs.
The last time he spoke to Reo was on their way home, a rushed, fleeting conversation. Neither of them had said much. And now, here he was, standing in front of Reo's door, high up in the Mikage Corporation building.
The moment felt strangely familiar. Nagi remembered their first high school victory, the night Reo had invited him over for the first time. Reo had been his first for so many things.
But today, Nagi told himself he was here for one reason: Choki. He'd come to retrieve his cactus. And yet, a quiet hope lingered in the back of his mind—five minutes. Just five minutes to see those violet eyes again.
The door clicked open, spilling warmth into the hallway. A tall figure stood there, her gray-streaked hair tied neatly back. Baya. "Ah, it's Seishiro! Come in, come in. Young Master Reo is still sleeping."
Nagi hesitated. "It's fine. I just came to pick up Choki."
Baya nodded and disappeared, leaving the door ajar. Nagi stepped inside. The air smelled faintly of Reo—clean, with a hint of something floral. It made his chest ache. He found himself holding his breath, as if breathing it in would make leaving harder.
When Baya returned, she handed him the tiny pot with a kind smile. "Here you go. Safe and sound."
Nagi took Choki carefully, his fingers brushing the ceramic. Relief washed over him—he'd worried about the cactus during his months in Blue Lock—but it was quickly replaced by something heavier. Now that Choki was back, there was no reason to stay.
"Thank you," he said, his voice quieter than he intended. "I'll be going now."
"Of course. Take care," Baya replied.
Nagi turned toward the door, but his feet felt impossibly heavy. Each step was harder than the last, as if leaving meant losing something he couldn't name. He glanced back once, toward the room that still smelled of Reo, before forcing himself to move forward.
The clock's rhythm grew louder with each second. Reo sat up in bed, his head heavy from oversleeping. He turned to the massive window, rain streaking down the glass. Thunder rumbled in the distance, shaking the sky. He blinked, his vision hazy—unsure if it was the fog on the window or the remnants of sleep clouding his eyes.
I wonder what Nagi's doing right now, he thought.
The room was dark and cold, filled only with the sound of the storm outside and the relentless ticking of the clock. Reo sighed. There was an emptiness in him, a void he couldn't name.
Dragging himself out of bed, he opened the door, squinting as light spilled in from the hallway.
Baya must still be awake.
"Ah, Young Master Reo," she greeted with a warm smile. "Seishiro came by earlier to pick up his cactus, Choki. He's already left, I'm afraid."
The words hit Reo harder than the storm outside. His face twisted, eyebrows furrowed. "Nagi?" His voice trembled. "Why didn't you wake me up? When did he leave?"
"Seishiro insisted you needed your rest," Baya said gently.
Reo ran a hand through his violet hair, his thoughts racing. Damn it. If only I'd woken up sooner...
"Baya, it's pouring out there!"
Before he could think, he bolted toward the elevator. His body moved on instinct, drawn to Nagi as if by gravity.
The elevator doors opened, and Reo's heart pounded louder with every second. As he stepped into the storm, the wind whipped at his skin, carrying cold, stinging raindrops. His violet eyes scanned the street, locking onto a familiar silver-haired figure.
Reo ran toward him, his breath hitching. He was close now, but before he could reach him, Nagi stepped forward, his hoodie drenched from the rain.
"Seriously, are you stupid?" Reo shouted, grabbing Nagi's wrist hard enough to leave marks. "What the hell are you thinking?!"
The storm roared around them, but Nagi didn't seem to hear it. His eyes fixed on Reo, soft and distant. "Reo... You woke up? I told Baya not to—"
"Shut up!" Reo snapped, pulling Nagi by the collar. His voice cracked with frustration. "You told me I'm such a pain while you're the one being a pain, Nagi! What is wrong with you?"
Tears blurred Reo's vision as he buried his head in Nagi's chest. "Why are you like this? Why are you so difficult?" Reo bit his lip, maybe a little too hard that it bleeds.
Nagi's voice was soft, almost innocent. "Reo, my hoodie's already wet. If you cry on it, it'll just get wetter. And Choki would also get wet."
"You could wear my clothes," Reo shot back, lifting his head to meet Nagi's gaze.
"Bringing them back would be a hassle."
"Who said you're taking them home?" Reo's eyes narrowed. "You're not going anywhere tonight."
“Reo, it's so warm I could stay here forever."
Nagi had buried himself in Reo's mattress, completely wrapped in Reo's oversized sweater—everything else felt too little for him. He sighed contentedly, voice muffled by the fabric. "Reo, your sweater smells like you."
And just like that, Nagi slipped back into his usual habit—his words revolving around Reo, his world revolving around Reo.
Reo didn't mind, though. If anything, he was beyond satisfied. With a quiet chuckle, he switched off the lights before slipping under the covers beside Nagi—in his own bed, where Nagi always seemed to belong.
Even with his eyes closed, Nagi felt every small movement Reo made. He could tell that Reo had his back turned to him, the soft strands of his hair brushing past his cheek like the whisper of a feather. It smelled sweet. It smelled like home.
The first time Nagi had caught this scent was on the staircase that day, when Reo had leaned in close—too close. Close enough that Nagi had taken a breath and thought, Ah, so this is Reo.
Slowly, Nagi inched closer. His arm draped lazily around Reo's waist, his hand fitting perfectly in place, as if they had been designed for this moment.
A warm breath ghosted over Reo's neck, sending shivers down his spine. Then, a voice—soft, almost drowsy.
"Hm?" Reo turned slightly, violet eyes meeting sleepy gray. "What is it, Nagi?"
Nagi stared. If the world allowed, he could do this forever—just memorizing every curve, every detail of Reo's face. His gaze lingered on the faint cut on Reo's lower lip. Though the bleeding had stopped, it was still there.
His mind empty, his body moving on instinct, Nagi leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to the scar—light as air, as if the touch alone could make it disappear.
Then, suddenly, a weight pressed against his back.
"...Sleepy," Nagi murmured, voice barely above a whisper.
Reo swallowed, his face heating. "Then go to sleep, idiot."
"Mm." Nagi nuzzled into the crook of Reo's neck, his grip around Reo's waist tightening just a little.
Silence settled between them.
Reo exhaled, his lips curving into a small smile. "Yeah?"
A pause. Then, in the quietest, most satisfied voice—
Reo let out a soft laugh, his heart impossibly full. He reached down, placing his hand over Nagi's. "Yeah, yeah. Go to sleep."
Reo curved his lips. Under his breath he whispered, “My treasure.”
And so, with their fingers lightly tangled and breaths falling into the same rhythm, they did. Their fates of tomorrow, and the day after, and so on—was sealed.
