“Don’t be weird about it!” Yuugi complained, cheeks turning a delightful shade of rose. He pressed his hands over Atem’s face, pushing the other’s head back and away from his neck, maybe with a little too much force. Whatever, Atem deserved it for being weird.

“If you noticed that I wanted your attention, then you should have reacted! Ignoring me like that was mean!” he accused, huffing. “I take it back; I don’t want your attention, anymore, if all you’re going to do is tease me.”

This was it. This was how he dies. What sort of idiot would not only wander around the city without any sense of looking where he was going, but also bump into someone and spill their basket of herbs and medicine at their feet? And really, it was just his luck that certain someone was their Pharaoh.

“I-I’m really sorry my Pharaoh! Please excuse my incompetence, I wasn’t looking where I was going and...” Words stammered, coming out in a hurry as he bows down to avoid looking into his eyes and he hurried to pile the dropped herbs back into the basket he was holding.

‿︵▲ Today was not her day. One would take pity on such a sight. Tired and defeated, her knees buckled and she hit the ground. Being a peasant was quite a nightmare sometimes. Often would she pluck the fruit from trees just for sustenance, but perhaps she had brought this all on herself. This particular commoner had a dream; a dream to dance for the Pharaoh. Surely that would be the life her parents wanted for her. Maybe it would have been better to have searched for something to eat before she began working. After all, her methods of earning a living were a bit unconventional. Sometimes she lucked out and would be asked to dance at dinner parties or ceremonies, but she usually just panhandled with what she did best. The one time that she got asked to entertain at a banquet in months, she falters to malnourishment. So much for that. Just as exhaustion snatched her consciousness, she heard an unfamiliar voice. Someone was helping her? Just as quickly as it came, all sounds, sights and thoughts ceased; only darkness remained.
