Hi, You might have answered that already, if you have, I'm sorry. I was curious to know, as you've said Castiel was your favorite route, how do you feel about a) having to seduced him all over again and go from scratch or b) if you've chosen to go for someone else, having him around?

Nah I think I’ve just said stuff in passing in replies. But uh, yeah, he was my fave boi, in the end. Cassy... love that guy.

A) I honestly feel like the last 7yrs of effort weren’t worth it. Yes, otome games are pretty much about getting the guy, but I already romanced him once already, and I felt kind of cheated finding out my relationship is over, and I have to do it again. Didn’t get my ‘I love you’s, but I got some sweet illustrations to make up for the hole in my heart, that followed a kind of ‘heavily suggested’ sex scene and then went and jumped 4 years into the future. Nice.

It’s also a matter of... why Castiel? He’s so mean early in the game. I mean, yeah, he sweetens up and he’s kind of a romantic and stuff, which is what made me stick it out for him... but of all the guys? Of all the guys? Also I think it’s kind of pretty unfair they bring 1 of original 5 back, and it’s Castiel. I think it’s also disgraceful to remove 7+yrs worth of writing and development, and make him act like a bratty teenager all over again. I really wanted to see an older Castiel with his natural hair colour, too, because like... he dyed his hair red after breaking up with Deborah, and. Nope, still red. I didn’t want this.

But yeah. My impression so far is we’re dating him from scratch. I do kind of want to get far enough into MCUL just to see what the dialogue is going to be like with a ‘he was my hs boyfriend’ option chosen. But... yeah. 7+yrs man. Thrown away. 

As for B) nah I’ll probably hurt myself and date him again, if I stick around in MCUL long enough. I’m not comfortable dating teachers, Hyun is cute but the interaction with him in the beta just made me go “he’s perfectly friend shaped” and as for Priya, I would want to make a whole new character for her, so, new account... Don’t know who the 5th person is going to be, so I can’t comment there. Rip.

@nameliachango prompted me with a fic about candy learning the song castiel wrote for her. idk if this is the direction you were expecting, but its the way i went. kind of in the same vein as the previous fic i wrote

It’s the same thing as always, these days. Late nights, sitting up, too distracted to sleep, too tired to function. Reaching across her bed, she tries to find her phone, judge the time. What time was it today, where her heart felt like it stopped beating in her chest, where not even the sweetest song could lull her to sleep? Five in the morning. She should’ve known — it was always five in the morning when she felt like this.

After all, it was the time where she watched him walk away. And really, she should’ve known better than to listen to her song before bed. Maybe it’s because she remembered the date specifically, and wanted to be wrapped up in something other than blankets and sorry looks. ‘Sorry we don’t know the details’. No, no one really knew. No one was allowed to know. 

But she gets up, and she marches on, because that’s all she has going for her. Ignores the poster on the wall, a candid shot taken when he was first starting out, that has gone a long way to being the most recognisable thing about his band. Ignores the spread of CDs on the floor, and the one vinyl, framed stage left of the dresser. Was it sad that her friends thought she wanted all this, when all she wanted was him? 

There’s a guitar, tucked in the corner of the room. Not the cherry red that accompanied Castiel everywhere, but what he instead spent his first pay on, when he released his first song. A deep black, that almost glittered purple in the light. Like her hair, he’d insisted, fingers twirling in her curls  as she’d held the instrument in her arms. And people said that Castiel could never be romantic, that he had no heart. She knew better.

She knew him.

At five am, she settles on the chair, her guitar in hands. The strap was her choice, but the colours on the thread were starting to fade. Overuse, probably, recognisable from the lack of sleep. In her hands, she switches to his song, and slips her headphones on. Castiel’s voice was raspy, deep, and even after everything, warmed her from top to bottom. A love song. He wrote her a love song. That was the anchor, for them, no matter what (at least, she always hoped).

With a sigh, she catches up, fingers following familiar patterns on the strings. Words leave her, not quite the level of depth, but this song is etched into her skin, that she just closes her eyes, and she’s there. Headphones on, staring at the little USB stick placed into the sound system. Castiel watching her, expectant, nervous, as the song plays for the first time. Second time. Third, fourth, twentieth, hundredth. 

Sitting on the bed, strumming his cherry red guitar, singing when she comes home from work late. On the porch of Lysander’s farm, just the two of them awake, always the last to go. Never a song he’d been practicing and writing for weeks on end. Whenever he saw her, it was always their song, sung low and quiet, like a private message she was only privy to hear. 

Mumbled as she dyes his hair, loudly in the shower when she’s using the hairdryer. Lyrics laughed as they go christmas shopping, trying to place the words in tune to the noise around them. And she’d repeat them right back, stamped on her heart, nowhere else to go.

She memorised the song by listening, over-listening. Knew all the strokes, all the words, every little catch in his breath. There was no embarrassment in the way he sang to her, talked to her, about her. So sure and calm and determined, as if he didn’t believe his feelings ever got across.

Of course he knew better, at the time. But here she sat, in her little apartment, playing a song that would remain theirs. Always.

@candymayvary sorry for not responding, I didn't see you'd answered my comment. So yeah, I agree with everything you said. The other part of the convo that pissed me off is when Castiel says that Candy decides to move overnight. Like, what? No one decides to lobe overnight. What the hell does that means? From ep 1 I thought he accepted the move and they tried to make the long distance relationship work and then broke up after a year or so. From what Castiel said it

Seemed like they'd broken up when Candy left. It also seemed like Candy hadn't told him about the moving until the very end. Who would do that? It makes no sense and I can't help but feel that this is bc of the poor writing. So not only did Beemoov make a horrible decision that broke the fandom, they can't even be bothered to write about it correctly. Smfh...

To be fair, from ep1 of UL, we’re also told that Candy had no idea about his musical dreams, and that he basically chose his career over a relationship. It’s become a very much pointing of the finger situation, but also like. continuity? never met her. 

The ‘two weeks and we leave’ thing is also really flippant and just. Calls back in to question why Beemoov didn’t make a new game altogether with a new protag, or actually make this a proper sequel with all original boys.

Girl, I don't play anymore and only watch the let's play on YouTube and I'm nervous AF. I mean they turned Nathaniel into a yakusa/fratboy (there are SOME things I like about new Nath, ngl but that's for another discussion), my point being, if they did that with Nath, what did they do with Castiel?

Well, Castiel is all insolent and hard to get and closed off and has sooooooooo many fans...... oh, I’m sorry, apart from the last part we know, that sounds exactly like how he was in the beginning! Fancy that! If this still holds water with his next appearance, I suppose they didn’t even try giving his character a direction, considering they’re rushing like no tomorrow through flirting with a character like Hyun, or the “””””””new and improved””””””” Nathaniel. Can I just point out that ignoring how the love story is literally referred to as torrid, of all goddamn words and meanings... Hyun is Ready For You by like. Ep1. Someone needs to tone it down over there. Put it away, Junior. 

Nathaniel is actually a Chad and on the one hand, I dig it. I’m not denying that. I’m weak for stuff like that hallway scene. On the other hand, I’m just like. Why tho? Of all characters......... to make a Chad........... Although, ngl, if they keep up the whole gang thing (a thinly veiled attempt to be Yakuza), theeeeeennnnn I think I can safely say that Beemoov and co have not understood that the tropes that once littered otome have actually begun to thin out and move on. You can’t box your characters anymore into simply filling out a set list of requirements. It hasn’t been that way in a longass time. Actually it’s not even just otome anymore? Like a lot of Japanese media has begun to move away from the once-popular tropes, because the audiences have become more aware and stuff. I mean, hell, look at all the western media (E3???? this year???? Look at how they literally told the straight white male players who cry sjw to get a move on and keep up with media and mentalities changing). I mean, that’s a discussion for another day, sure, but it just tells me that Beemoov is still so rooted in a time and place that, y’know, sucks now. And they are behaving like they believe a lot of what they’re dishing out is gonna be eaten up like how it used be 7 years ago.

Which is why like. I wanna see Castiel. I wanna see how dirty Beemoov did him. But I also want to see the opposite. What if Beemoov is so good to him, it’s insulting? I mean, he’s their pikachu apparently lmfao. Or at least Chino’s. She claimed to have fought hard to keep him in (EVEN THOUGHT NATHANIEL IS LITERALLY RIGHT THERE AS WELL LOLOLOL) so like. No matter if they treat him poorly like they’ve done to quite literally everyone else, if they conversely treat him good, just goes to show what they think of everything else. Beemoov do you realise there’s no winning here for you? No, not at all.

@candymayvary​ I just don't get it. I don't know if Chino fought for Castiel to stay. If she did it makes no sense bc she would've known it would add fuel to the upcoming fire. I think it's a decision from the higher-ups. They knew they'd lose players by taking away the crushes so they looked at stats, so Cassy had 30?40% who know how much fans and hoped he'd help keep part of the fandom. Which goes to show they don't know us : we would've been happy with a real spinoff

Well she said she did. Whether or not people believe her is up to them, because it was the popularity comment that kind of threw it all off for me.

I really don’t think they quite understood what they were doing? Or what the ultimate ending would be? It goes to show just how much they knew their audience, too, if they were just like ‘yep we’ll get rid of 4/5 guys, no one will care’. I seriously didn’t think Castiel was that popular, even with all the stats people were throwing out on the forums and stuff, just because like... even way back, I never saw much support for him.

And like I said in a post a while ago, are they taking those numbers from people who actually finished ep40, or just where people happened to be up to, going anywhere from ep1 to ep40, because that too isn’t a good reflection of who chose who in the end. I finished MCL with Castiel, but as his and Nathaniel’s l’o’m were both at 100%, for whatever reason, Nathaniel was listed as my highest l’o’m. I finally ‘crushed’ Castiel to give him that extra 10% (I was holding out just for replay value tbh...) but so that he actually appeared on my profile. But otherwise, Kentin or Armin would rotate through that position for me depending on episode, not just Castiel (I kept all the guys pretty high, just for illustration purposes, as some required a minimum level yknow). So the data collection is kind of questionable, when their own system doesn’t recognise that I finished the damn game with Castiel, my last conversation was with Castiel, my last ‘increase’ was with Castiel, and it still put Nathaniel down as my highest l’o’m. 

Also like, people want the Castiel they ended the game with, where he had grown and developed and wasn’t so willing to hide his romantic side, but was also starting to be open in other relationships. They don’t want him being ‘insolent’ again, as they so eloquently phrased it. They don’t care. They used the data they pulled as an excuse to say that Castiel would be involved, but it’s just convenient for them that he was ‘the most popular’. Should’ve been a different character. Hands down.

I appriciate seeing Nath back and I was half expecting it (the only doubt in my mind was because of Chino's message) but I really find it unfair to the other players who were on Lysandre, Armin or Kentin's route. Plus, I must say, I don't really trust the team to handle Nathaniel's story well, after all the shitty decisions they made. Once upon a time I did, now, not so much... As for playing MLC? I'm torn. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice... You know the drill.

Yeah that’s a lot of how I feel, honestly. Do I trust them to handle Nathaniel well... er, no. Not after some questionable choices in story writing in the past. I will play... but for how long? Who knows
