Let’s talk about failure. I would likely to admit that the amount of anxiety, stress, uncertainty , and overall lack of control that I experienced when 2020 began had reached heights I never seen in my life. It took a lot, and I mean a lot of work, support, and acceptance to get past those really tough points. The other day I was feeling unproductive because I could not really think of creative ideas or concepts to bring to life. I felt like maybe my creativity drained out or went missing, maybe I was being too idle or relaxing a little too much. I felt like I was failing. I was listening to a podcast and the speaker was discussed her struggles with own stress this year. It reminded me how difficult the start of this year was for me. How uncertain and scared I felt. I compared that to current day. How the work I put in has gotten me to a place of healing (continual), how I feel less tense, less scared, and quite honestly less stressed. It takes time and work. It takes believing in yourself and putting yourself first even when it’s uncomfortable or incomprehensible. When we pack a lot of expectations on ourselves, we set unrealistic standards. When we don’t reach them, or keep ourselves in check - we feel like we are failing. When we accept hustle culture, we burn ourselves out. Creativity is a muse (please read @elizabeth_gilbert_writer wonderful book Big Magic) and she too needs rest and recuperation.
