I don't know about anime culture with "atashi" like your example, but in normal Japanese in society, "atashi" is EXTREMELY FEMININE. Most Japanese women don't even use it and use gender neutral, polite "watashi," which is, as you might be able to tell, where "atashi" comes from. A woman using "atashi" would be seen as extremely childish or girly, like speaking with a valley girl accent in America/English. A woman would really only use it with friends, if anything, and definitely wouldn't say

It in the workplace because it’s terribly girly and unprofessional/casual. Look up “burikko” on YouTube, it’ll show you the type of personality for “atashi.“

I am familiar with the terminology and I know how it is used... this is why I was rather shocked when I saw it being used by some characters in anime. Thank you for taking the time to reassure me of its subtle usage.
