Nanami lives
"You're awake."
(Nanami Kento x Reader)
Summary: Nanami Kento, a man thought dead by many of his associates, finally wakes up in the hospital after receiving near fatal wounds. Shibuya would be remembered as a hard fought battle full of bloodshed and strife. It wouldn't claim his life, however. A fate you were eternally grateful for.
tw: none
Nanami woke with a start, pain blooming across his chest as the beeping got louder in his head. His vision swam, breathing labored as he lifted a shaky hand to grab at his temple.
"K-Kento?" A voice filtered in through the roaring clamoring around his skull, attention snapping to the source only to find you.
Your brilliant eyes usually filled with humor and warmth were now shiny with unshed tears that clung to your lashes. He opened his mouth to speak, only being interrupted by a dry cough that escaped him as he choked on his spit.
"Oh," you quickly got up from the bedside chair, the seat nearly toppling with your abrupt departure as you reached for a cup of water at his bedside. "Here, easy."
Nanami took a second as he gathered himself before letting you tip the water into his parted lips, feeling the way you caressed the back of his head. Your fingers had slipped between the pillow and his neck, tracing random patterns into the short hair there. You took the cup after he managed a few sips, your eyes softening as his body relaxed once he realized who you were. He tried to speak again, wincing when the pain flooded back into his senses.
"It's ok, you're in the hospital, Ken." You started, hand in hand with his larger one. His eye widened, brow furrowing as he blinked wildly when he realized his left eyesight was impacted from the bandages over it. You smoothed over his arm, mouth in a thin line.
"You could have died, Kento." Your breath shuddered, eyes closing. "Shoko did a lot and the others on the medical team did as well, but they could only save so much." Your eyes filled with tears again, bending down to press your forehead to his enclosed hand.
Nanami blinked, the memories of the prior battle were still a bit fuzzy but he certainly remembered Mahito. Mahito. And the hit he took.
And Yuji.
"L-Love..." He said shakily, voice cracking. Your eyes snapped open, training on him.
"I'm just happy we didn't lose you, Ken." You whispered, pressing kisses onto his knuckles. The ruddy skin had been split, the small cuts having been treated already.
Nanami sighed, head resting back with his eye closed. His hand squeezed yours, bandaged chest expanding with a stunted breath.
You sat up slightly at the sight of the tear streaking down his angular cheek, fingers swiping it away soothingly.
"Oh, baby." You breathed, getting up to hold his head gently to your chest as you tried your best to resist wrapping around him. He breathed in your comforting familiar scent, uninjured cheek pressing further into the sound of your fluttering heart. His eye opened suddenly, head tilting.
"Y-Yuji?" He rasped out, IV-ladened hand landing on your elbow weakly.
You separated from him, reaching for his hand again.
"He's fine, he made it out okay. He's here actually. He was so happy to hear you were alive." you said tenderly. He closed his eye, seemingly placated.
You smoothed over his chest lightly, fingers grazing the texture of the bandages wrapped around his middle.
"It's going to be okay, Ken." You said softly. There was only the consistent beeping of the heart monitor, a noise you never knew you would be so grateful for.
It meant Kento was alive. You hadn't lost him yet.
You closed your eyes. There was going to be a lot of recovery he had to go through. But you knew-vowed-you would be there with him every step of the way.
