So...re: the WWDITS finale/final season-
Let me preface this by saying I'm not mad... I'm a little disappointed. I am happy for those who are happy. And I would also urge everyone to be cool, tolerant, and respectful, but upon reflection...
I think season 3 and season 4 demonstrated a lot of potential. Sky high. I was giddy. And while I don't think the show ever became straight up terrible, but I think that they backtracked on what they were becoming and decided to double down on everything they were before The Cloak of Duplication (not to even mention The Night Market).
While I will always have a special place in my heart for this show and Nandermo, I think they just decided to be "that silly vampire show" instead of doing something meaningful. I suppose I am grateful for the subtext that can be read into the finale. But I wish it wasn't subtext. I wish it was bold and indisputable.
I don't think "business as usual" was the right decision for the final season. I wanted "very special episodes." They didn't need to be schmaltzy or over the top or even wildly different in tone from some of their best work in prior seasons. I wanted to see meaningful arcs and stakes (no pun intended, actually). I wanted to see conclusions. I get that they're vampires... they fall into patterns and have repetitive adventures and interactions.
But for me personally, I don't think meta and teasing was the way to go for the finale. Again. Not mad. Not surprised. Just disappointed.
PS- The Guide has never been my favorite character, but they did her dirty. She deserved better. Literally, wtf was that in the finale?
PSS- Literally was the most heartfelt moment of the season Laszlo and Seanie's heart to heart at the end of March Madness?
