Thoughts on "The New Adventures Of Peter And Wendy" S2 so far.
George Darling is wonderfully channelling Bobby Singer, Michael’s matured while still maintaining his cute charm, John’s as delightful as always, and his romance with Smee has been a pleasant surprise that just keeps getting better and better (don't get me started on how adorable he was about asking Smee out on a date)!
Peter is an immature man-child, and a complete jerk. He stopped being cute when he blindsided Wendy about her job in front of her brothers. His true colors came out in that little confrontation, and he’s just become nastier and harder to tolerate since then. However; now that he’s driven everyone away with his nastiness, and is at his lowest point (due to his own actions alone-he’s got no one to blame but himself for this), I’m hoping that George’s pep talk and taking pity on him (w/rules in place of course) will give him the kick in the pants he so sorely needs to grow up and start mending the fences he burned down with his friends.
While I liked seeing Lily’s more vulnerable side this season, and thought what Peter said to her was disgusting, I don’t feel even slightly sorry for her now that Jas has taken her company from her. It’s karma IMO. Not just for being continuously horrible to Wendy, especially when doing it to fluff her own ego/make herself feel better about herself, but also because she’s getting a taste of her own medicine in regards to her business practices. Time and time again throughout the series she’s either entered a scene or closed a scene gleefully declaring her victory in taking over someone else’s company/declaring her plans to take over someone else’s company, even acknowledging that she’s ruining people’s lives/happiness while doing so and clearing not caring and being proud of herself for it. She plotted with Tink to make Wendy disappear (going so far as implying murdering her IMO, since Lily told Tink “I could even do that!”, which she didn’t continue entertaining because Peter would never forgive them for that)…So why should I feel bad for her?
While Wendy decided to try out a little vengeance, and let Jas do this to Lily when she can do something about it, I do think she’ll change her mind after some guilt sets in and she’ll ask Jas to give it back. Yes, Lily has been vicious to Wendy and has never really been her friend (I suspect Lily only hung around with the Darlings because she had the hots for Peter), but Wendy is too nice to let Lily squirm for long-even if she deserves it (although, I’m not going to lie, I’m 100% okay with Wendy never stepping in to save the day for Lily).
I wish Wendy didn’t stop talking to her brothers while she was away, but I do like that she talked to them about it and admit that it was wrong of her to do that to them. They weren’t the problem, Peter was. And it wasn’t fair to hurt her brothers like that because she wanted to avoid him or thinking about him. The brothers had every right to be mad at her, but I’m glad they finally listened to her and forgave her after she explained herself and apologized.
I loved seeing Wendy happy with her new life and new friends outside of Neverland, and was happy to see her thriving. I’m also glad that Smee and Billie’s pep talk after the disastrous double date made her realize that she isn’t a nobody and she shouldn’t let people like Lily walk all over her and treat her like shit. That she needs to remain confident in herself and cut out the toxic people in her life (Lily, and Peter as well if he doesn’t grow up).
I’ve loved Wendy/Jas. After the way Peter’s treated Wendy, it was so nice to see that she was able to move forward and develop a romance with Jas (and by extention, find much better/genuine friends in Smee and Billie than she ever had in Tink and Lilly). I do honestly believe his intentions with Wendy have always been good. He’s been nothing but wonderful to her, and I don’t think that’s an act. Like Lily for Peter, I suspect James hung out in the same little group as his bully (or bullies, Lily joining Peter in tormenting James is a very strong possibility considering her personality and her opinion of him in S1) because he liked Wendy.
I think that he hired Wendy because he already liked her, perhaps even in love with her from the start, and was just telling Tink (the third bully in their little group) what she wanted to hear with no intentions of actually keeping Wendy out of Neverland forever. He didn’t hesitate to support and encourage Wendy to go home when her family needed her (even though she was hesitating and afraid to go home), and he didn’t hesitate to help when she told him they needed help.
I like Jas as a character too, and not just for how wonderful he is for Wendy. The fact that he can stand in the same room with his bully/bullies and remain perfectly civil for Wendy’s sake makes him admirable IMO. Especially the lengths he’s gone to try and bury the hatchet with Peter, despite their history and Peter’s persistent hostility towards him for “stealing his girl” (Wendy doesn’t belong to you Peter-she’s not an object, she’s a person and your friend even though you don’t deserve her friendship)! But I also like he doesn’t hold back, and can be ruthless if need be. I liked that he didn’t hesitate to give credit to Lily and Tink for steering Wendy in his direction (because he knew they did so with ill intentions), and didn’t defend them when Wendy and Peter each realized the two had manipulated the situation to get Wendy out of town. I liked that he was livid at Lily for how she treated Wendy, and resumed stealing her company from her because she wasn’t really Wendy’s friend and thus no longer deserved immunity from him.
I will be very angry if the writers pull a fast one and make Peter right about Jas, and reveal Jas as a villain. I will be even angrier if it turns out his feelings for Wendy were part of an elaborate act to get back at Peter (or, as I’ve seen some fans speculate, try to steal Wendy’s family’s newspaper from them).
My hopes for the end of this show is that Jas remains a good guy, that Jas/Wendy remain a couple, that Smee/John remain a couple, for the Darling newspaper to be saved, and that Peter grows up.
I want Peter to recognize that Jas is not the bad guy he’s built him up in his head to be, realize that he himself has been the villain this whole time, and feel bad about how he’s treated not only Jas-but Wendy, Michael (he’s been a crummy friend to Mike this season IMO), and Lily as well (because that was a really shitty thing for him to say to Lily and he knows it). I want to see Peter get his life back together, mend fences with his friends, and accept Jas’ offer to bury the hatchet and start fresh.
I don’t want Peter and Wendy back together romantically. I’m okay with their friendship being repaired, but that’s it.
I don’t care if Lily gets her company back or not, nor do I care if Peter/Lily get back together.
Just keep up the good writing and character development, and give me happy endings for the Darling family, Jas, and Smee!
While knowing LoLiLo ain’t gonna upload at twelve sort of made me forgot that there’s the always on-time New Adventure of Peter and Wendy and so the sudden surprise cheers me up!!! <3
Everyone in the New Adventures of Peter and Wendy fandom who is still freaking out about Friday's episode needs to see this video immediately! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KxYY23MtaGY The actor who plays John Darling does the actual "Single Ladies" dance. I want to headcanon this as John Darling: The College Years.
GAAAH! So many happy thoughts (😉) after Wendy's reconciliation with John and Michael!
