Was Naper Design named for Naperville, Illinois
Was Naper Design named for being a web design group in Naperville, Illinois?
We have been asked this on multiple occasions, and the answer comes with a bit of a twist.
In short: No, we were named for John Napier of Merchiston. John Napier is considered the father of both logarithms and someone who elevated the mathematical uses of algorithms. He also had a habit of spelling his name in multiple ways, to include: Neper, Naper, and Napair. While New Zealand has a city with the same spelling as his given name, Naperville, Illinois is the only city in the country with a viable inclusion of his name.
Now, you may ask yourself, why would you name your company as a tribute to a guy who was a mathematician? Aren’t you guys web designers and Search Engine Optimization experts?
