Here's a question I love to ask people, and I'd like to know your answer: if you had to have any album playing for the rest of your life, what would it be? You can choose the order or any specific song at will, but the album will be playing 24/7. The album can be any kind of album as well including movie or video game osts (but note that if you choose a TV series with multiple soundtracks, you have to only pick one). Also, if you choose a movie that has both an "official" soundtrack and then a soundtrack with songs featured in the movie (think like Forrest Gump or Guardians of the Galaxy), you can only pick one or the other; mixing them is not an option.
So! This question, I've been pondering it for the biggest part of a day. It fascinates me, because no matter how good the album is, it's bound to get boring, and it's bound to get me tired in record time, not because I have bad music taste, but because I cannot stand repetition. Specially for longer periods of time.
So, in theory, I shouldn't be able to respond to this with a 100% certainty, I'd have to be kinda dumb or extremely self-confident in what I'm saying, which I often don't.
I did try, though. And among the albums/OSTS I gave a try, I gave up with these:
ALBUMS:
-Another Light/Realign by Red Vox
Even if they're still my favourite albums ever, they're my favourite, Nowhere near perfect. Besides, my record for listening to these in on loop has been of 2/3 times. So I already know how that would go.
-Plastic Beach by Gorillaz
As much as this album is pretty much my life, and has made me feel things, do I really want to be initially overwhelmed by this album and later lose this emotionality? Answer is, no, I do not.
-El Ultimo Concierto by Soda Stereo
Well, this concert (which was released officially as an album, so it counts) is pretty great! And I would consider it perfect in some regards, Gustavo is fucking GREAT, however, I don't like Soda Stereo that much. Maybe if I were a proud Argentinian I would have picked this one out of blind fanatism.
OSTs:
Pokémon BDSP/ORAS/HGSS
I thought of this one at first because I get more duration of the same songs, since the OSTs of these games have the original and remixed version. But I couldn't decide on which to get, they're all great, but also I feel like I would get tired of getting reminded of Pokémon all my life.
Smash Bros. Ultimate
28 hours of videogame music, a lot of them are hype, a lot of them are also strangely calming. However, I'd drop it for the same reason as above.
It all cancels out because you cannot listen to everything always! You literally cannot! But there's one that *maybe* can get the pick for song I'd want to be played 24/7, at all times if needed.
Perfect ambience music, doesn't obstruct your life, can get you a bit melancholic or lonely at times, but it makes other moments beautiful, too. I can imagine myself tearing up a lot more, though. Specially if I accidentally stumbled upon a pretty sunset, a winter tree, or a cold rainy morning with Danny playing in the background. Doesn't that make things a bit more beautiful, though?
Maybe I want to get mad? Maybe I want things to be more violent? Maybe this song will make me reconsider.
You can probably tell a lot about my person about this choice, but it's the one I'd pick for my lifestyle and general mood in life.
