AAAAAND here's a bit more from Narinders Locker AU!
this time its about spooky cat himself, along with the failed vessel!
Narinder is very much the same, but instead wears a white coat with a red stripe down the middle. They are still a half skeletal cat, but his chains do not strictly keep him in place; the other captains just chained him to four anchors and threw him into the sea, after all. So he just drags himself across the seabed, looking through wreckages and searching for adventure with his two adopted demigods.
The lamb always knows where to find him, though. The crown makes a very handy compass.
Narinder loves fighting, more than everything else. Everything except his morals. When he was mortal, he loved to start bar fights, especially in defense of people who could not protect themselves. When he ascended to godhood with his family, it was his and Shamuras idea to include an oath to protect the mortals of the sea, to watch over them and not use them as tools, so as not to become the very gods they had set out to slay.
Narinder knows that one day he will no longer be a god. As per the oath, a Captain is chosen by their crew, not the other way around. And the lamb has a naturally magnetic personality, and a drive that pulls faithful crew to their side. One day, when the Captains have fallen, he will challenge them to a duel. He will naturally give up his godhood, but wants to go out on his terms: a blaze of glory, a legendary fight that the crew will talk of forever more. That will be his immortality, as his soul gets to rejoin his family in the deep.
But that isn't what happens, of course; the Thing in the Moon has other plans for their lost champion.
Ratau is an old bartender at this point, running a lonely tavern on an island far from the Captains strongholds. He holds on to the old Iron Veil, beached deep in the forest of the island he retired on, hidden within a lake at the center.
He has a sailors tongue, and passes the time playing nucklebones with his trader friends, when they come to visit.
When the small sloop loaded with woolly refugees docked at the lonely island, Ratau welcomed them with open arms, inviting them to stay the night at no cost. The sheep, exhausted from running, gladly took shelter with the unaligned tavern master.
While there, a young sheep took interest in his craft, and Ratau taught them many things, including a couple knife tricks to help defend their family.
Imagine their surprise when they see that same sheep show up at his bar in an empty ship once belonging to the green Captain, drenched and dripping seawater on his floor, bearing the red crown.
Both of them took time to mourn that day, and the Lamb has returned many times since.
Hey, I'm back.
so i found out that my last post wasn't seen by many. Also that i forgot to write like half of the post. so uh
HAPPY LATE PIRATE DAY EVERYONE
part one is here. It talks about the Lambs crew, minus three of them. Also about how Flintlocks work in this world (Its magic :))
Anyway, here's the missing three members! They are, obviously, post Captains, so keep that in mind.
First, we have Yarlen! Everyone calls them Stinky, though. They insist its a "cool pirate name". William humors him, with much disappointment.
He has an unnatural lucky streak, having managed to find William's ship in nothing but a rowboat after traveling miles in a random direction. They have also never lost a game of nucklebones, despite only having a vague grasp of the rules.
He works as a mate, helping with everything around the ship that needs it. His preferred weapon is a spear, although they haven't had to do much mono a mono combat, due to the rest of the crew having much more experience.
Then we got Jalala! She traveled from far away, much like her brother, guided by a letter that was bound to a messenger bird that Yarlen somehow found.
Their trip was a lot more eventful, having the ship they were abord crash into Pilgrims Rock, and then meeting Rinor and sailing through the seas of the Old Crew, running into THREE separate primordial entities that only seem to interact with people who have a strong tie to the fate of the world. They also (unlike cannon) managed to catch a glimpse of ???, or The Thing in The Moon, before being captured by Old Crew and then rescued by William Kidd.
They serve as a talented cartographer aboard the Iron Veil, their keen eyes able to accurately measure the distance between islands and also having intimate knowledge of star charts, making them indispensable for navigation.
Jalala is a non-combatant aboard the ship. The crew likes her, despite her nervousness.
Rinor is a capable deckhand, knowing how ships work very well, as well as being able to tie a mean knot. For a weapon, she wields one of the boats iron cleats (the pins you tie rope to) despite also technically being a non-combatant.
They had sailed the sea as a fisher before joining the crew along with Jalala.
Finally, we can get to the crew's friends and... acquaintances. These will be rapid fire, so here we go.
Forneus is a large cat woman who plies her trade on the seas. How does she get her goods? No one knows, especially considering she never takes payment of any kind, and her gifts are all perfectly suited to their recipients. She seems wise even beyond her years, and has somehow evaded the Old Crews notice entirely, despite constantly praising the Red Captain.
(Narinder granted her eternal life after the unwilling sacrifice of her children, as long as she remained on the sea. Shamura got no blessing from him.)
Midas is a problem. He runs a Flint mining operation on a far flung bit of the volcano god, using his gift to control gold to mine it without any consequences. Hes still a jerk, but is the only source of Flint that the crew have.
Rakshasa is a traveling food vendor of the sea. Think Barati from one piece but with a snail theme, and you have it. They are known to deal with the Iron Veil, but they are allowed to operate because they charge William's crew extra (like one gold, but still).
Plimbo is a trader, still. He supplies the crew of The Old Rust-bucket with all sorts of trinkets and goodies between raids.
The fox is not called the Fox. They are instead called The Jackal, The Skull in the End. They are a demon of Death in this world, considering the position was left vacant by Narinder. They have much more tempting deals, too- A life for a life.
Who would you give up for the ones you love?
Its pirate day.
and I have a pirate au.
ALRIGHT HAVE SOME TASTY NAUTICAL TREATS FROM NARINDERS LOCKER
This is about some of the most important members of the lambs crew (though William does not claim them as such until AFTER the succession.) along with some of the lambs other friends and... acquaintances. Along with some lore on the Flintlocks used in my setting.
So first off, Flintlocks. These are weapons that, unlike real life, require extensive training to use. This is because they don't use black powder- they use Flint, the skin of the dead god of volcanoes. Mining it is extremely dangerous, as Flint reacts very strongly to trauma, like exploding. It also infiltrates the mind of the one who harmed it like a alien virus, causing the victim to develop pyromania, such that they try to burn themselves alive.
This is why it is usually mined with as many mechanical layers of separation are made between the miners and the Flint. This helps keep the dead gods mind at bay. That same side effect explains the use of flintlocks: lots of mechanical motion that prevents the volcano god from harming the user while the barrel channels and enhances the desired effect of an explosion, in theory.
In practice, a Flintlock user must still possess a very strong will to use one with any frequency. Thus, effective Flintlock wielders are very highly sought after by the bishops, while simultaneously being the exact kind of people who dissent first, due to their training to RESIST A GOD.
This leads nicely into the First mate, Pason (He/They). Pason was the first person that Will rescued, mainly because they had been on the ship that the Lamb had been on. How did he get there? Well...
Pason was a dog, born into a wealthy family within Heket's empire. Heket ruled her crew with an iron fist formed from carefully constructed societal expectations. Pason's father, although already wealthy and influential, sought to expand his influence. The best way to do that?
By enlisting one of his sons as a Flintlocker. What? Why would he ever volunteer himself, that's dangerous!
Anyway, he decides to have his two sons tested for their aptitude at using flintlocks, and has the eldest go first.
It goes horribly, horribly wrong. Pason's brother was immediately engulfed in flames, screaming out in terror for his father, who did nothing but sneer at the charred remains as a servant put out the fire.
Pason saw the whole thing, and was rightly terrified. Then, it was his turn.
But that terror, that understanding of exactly what kind of danger both the Flintlock and his father represented, made him a Flintlock savant in the instant that he pulled the trigger.
The fire knew exactly where its wielder wanted it to go. Training gun or not, it would obey their whims.
After that, both elder dogs were charred scorch marks on the floor, and Pason was a wanted man.
He found comfort with the sheep, people who themselves were hunted, and swore himself to their protection. To his credit, he did a really good job for a year.
But there is only so much a mortal can do against a bishop, let alone four of them.
After his rescue, he served as an anchor for the lamb, helping them stay sane throughout their quest. He also helped unite the crew under the lamb after it grew larger, becoming a true first mate. Pason wields a Flintlock wand alongside a cutlass to reduce mental strain in combat.
Next up is Webber! The boy!
The lamb found him on an island, having seemingly not been there for long, though he lacked clothes. He also spoke in a strange way, completely unlike how a spider normally would.
Webber instead spoke with the sound of a rope being plucked, and didn't seem to understand the language lamb spoke in turn. With time, he was never able to pick up how to speak like the crew, but he could understand them as well as respond using hand signs that were taught by Forneus.
He serves as the crews Boatswain, keeping the ship intact with his odd inventions that work suprisingly well with iron, as well as keeping watch from the crows nest because he can climb the rigging like, well, a spider. He also can pretty effectively wield a Flintlock rifle, though not as well as Pason. When asked about this ability, he simply wrote, "not as bad as crawling horrors", whatever that means.
Then we have Jullaybre. (she/her)
This old chicken has seen a lot. If its something horrible, and involves the bishops, she has probably seen it.
She doesn't talk much, and finds words highly unnecessary in most cases. However, her loyalty to the lamb is unshakable, despite her rough exterior and with how disrespectful she was of William for the first couple weeks.
Jullaybre wields an axe. Doesn't trust Flintlocks. She's worried they'll make her head explode; she doesn't know how Pason deals with the dammed things. (for Pason's part, he doesn't blame her for that distrust on either part. He knows he can count on her to take them out if they go mad.)
And last but not least, we have Gretre, our resident yellow cat. (he/she)
Gretre was a Old Crew member that served under Kallamar. He worked faithfully for 5 years as a Plague doctor, being one of the few who actually tried to cure her patients, until one day Kallamar decided she hadn't been loyal at all. Strapped to an experiment table, he resigned himself to a fate as a lab cat, when suddenly the lamb broke in and saved him.
Now, he serves as the ships doctor, able to help people like he always wanted to WITHOUT also having to give his patients smallpox. That's not to say she isn't inquisitive; she still studies every new disease with great interest, but now she doesn't have to hurt people to do it.
(Also he'd like to put Leshy on a petri dish ifyouknowwhatimean)
So I was trying to figure out what to post today and then remembered OH YEAH I came up with a name for my pirate lamb!
So, the name I gave to the last lamb in my pirate au is...
William Kidd! You know, the pirate who, on their execution day, announced that he had buried treasure somewhere.
I feel like naming the lamb who's second most important day of their life was being executed by gods who feared them, should be named after an appropriate historical figure who's most famous moment was on the day of their execution. :)
