As 2021 ends and 2022 begins, the Naruto-Run to One-K has come to an end and with it myself and @gaalee-events would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated and congratulate the entire GaaLee fandom on what must be considered a landmark event!
For those of us who have been active in the GaaLee fandom since the early days, this ship has always been of lesser popularity and thus finding content, especially fic content, was always a challenge. Through the incredible efforts of everyone these past 25 days, the GaaLee tag on Ao3 has finally reached an incredible one-thousand fics. In fact, it has surpassed that!
As of January 1st, 2022 the GaaLee tag now holds 1,014 fics!!!
The incredible skill and dedication this event brought out has been wonderful to see, and both of your event organizers are blown away by the sheer number of words produced in such a short amount of time.

And a massive shout-out to @egregiousderp for blowing us all out of the water with the highest word count, sitting pretty at 43,554 words--and all done in just three fics!

Summary:
Every orphaned child in Konoha hopes to someday find family.
Most children know who they are, know who their parents were--shinobi who died for the village, civilians caught in the crossfire--but some children do not have that luxury.
Rock Lee has always been one of those outcast children, but he had eventually learned how to be okay with the loneliness and isolation being an outcast in a shinobi village. Maito Gai had given him the paternal love he'd never had, while Tenten and Neji had given him the siblings other orphans had always refused to be. Whatever memories of his parents he'd lost, whatever childhood he could have had did not matter because he was Rock Lee, Konoha's Beautiful Blue Beast.
And if his parents hadn't wanted him, if his parents had died and left him alone, learning the truth wasn't going to change his past, present, or future...
But then one day, there came a knock at his door...
And here is my third submission for the #narutorun1k event hosted by @gaalee-events + @puregaalee! Really excited to be posting this one, because this idea has been on my mind for SO LONG.
Also, since I’m posting this now, I’d also love to put out that I am searching for a sensitivity reader for this story as Chinese culture and language are a key element. So if anyone would be interested please, hmu!

Very rushed but here’s what I wrote for Naruto Run to 1k!!
NR1K is a fast-paced sprint to December 31st, 2021, where we call on GaaLee creators to push the Gaara / Rock Lee tag on Ao3 to 1,000 works! As of December 6th, the total works stands at 967, just 33 works from our goal. Therefore, the objective is to collectively produce 33 works in 25 days. Our goal is to ring in the New Year right … with Gaara / Lee, of course!
What can I create for this event?
Anything that is allowed to be posted on ArchiveofOurOwn and that is tagged with Gaara/Rock Lee in the pairings tag section. Ao3 allows you to host fic (of course) and written meta on-site. It also allows the posting of any other type of fannish, transformative work (e.g. AMVs, comics, fanart, podfic, filk, playlists), but images, video, and/or audio must be uploaded to an offsite host and can be embedded on the archive. Information about posting nonnatively hosted work to Ao3 varies by the type of media, but can be found here.
How do I participate in the event?
There is no sign-up for NR1K. Simply post your work to Ao3, link to it on Tumblr, and use the hashtag #narutorun1k to participate. We ask that you also please ping @gaalee-events and/or @puregaalee to ensure the organizers are notified of your post to reblog it, as Tumblr’s tagging system can be finicky. There is an Ao3 collection for the event to memorialize our push, which you are welcome to post your creations to (type “NarutoRunto1K” without quotes in the ‘Collections’ box when you’re submitting your work), but adding your work to the collection isn’t mandatory.
Are there any limitations on the content I can produce for this event?
Just one: Please don’t post parts of a single work as multiple fics just to boost the tag stats (e.g. breaking a single chapter of a work into 5 separate works). That’s a violation of both the AO3 TOS and all of our integrity as fan-creators. Other than that, the world is your oyster! Any ratings, themes, topics, etc. are allowed as long as they are permitted on Ao3. Got a 500-word ficlet? Post it. Got a 100k epic that you whipped up in one day? Post it! And also damn, you write fast! Unbeta’d? Post it! Haven’t looked at this draft in 10 years? Post it! First chapter of a multichap you don’t know when you’ll update? Post it!! Our motto here is Quantity, not Quality. This is a sprint, after all, not a marathon. (The challenge moderators reserve the right not to reblog content that may be offensive, inflammatory, or not within the spirit of the event.)
Do I need to create something new for this event, or can I use something I’ve already been working on?
Unfortunately, Ao3 only adds to the tag stats when new fanworks are posted. We’re never going to be unhappy with people creating more GaaLee content, but adding a new chapter to an existing work just won’t count for this event. That being said, you are more than welcome to post new multichapter works for the event, to post WIPs you’ve already been working on, or to dust off old WIPs that have been moldering in your Google Docs.

If anyone had told Gaara a few months ago that he would be willingly waking up at 5am to watch a sports event, he would have laughed in their face. Yet here he was, the bags under his eyes darker than they’d ever been, but thrumming with anticipation.
Congratulations to Whazzername and the GaaLee fandom for reaching 1000 fics! The Naruto-Run to One-K has been a resounding success and there are still TWO DAYS LEFT! Who says we have to stop at 1,000 fics!?!?
