Richard Petty and Buddy Baker lead the pack early in the 1971 Atlanta 500! Petty led 59 laps, but it would be pole sitter A.J. Foyt who would win that day. Foyt led 205 of the 328 laps driving the number 21 for Wood Brothers Racing. There were 23 lead changes in the race and the average speed was 131.375 mph.
