There’s something absolutely shocking you need to know about this post.
At first glance, it looks like pure perfection because in many ways, it was. We played a private sorority event last night, and the place was overflowing with vibrant, brilliant young women who are carving their paths and pouring so much goodness into the world. Some of the fellas were invited, and I couldn’t help but catch this moment. A young man gazing into his date’s eyes, slipping off his jacket to keep her warm. A class act in every sense.
Truth is, all of the sorority and fraternity members we met were that way. They were gracious, kind, well-spoken, and full of life. People always ask what it’s like performing for Greek life events. We’ve played a lot of shows this year, and the caliber of human beings these organizations are producing? It’s next level.
But here's what you don't see in this picture: a sweaty, tired, slightly broken lead singer hauling gear through the night. I had a broken toe and had pulled my back at the gym, but you don’t talk about that onstage, you just show up and rock.
As I was struggling with equipment at the end of the night, one young man stopped everything, walked up to me and said, “Ma’am, let me take that for you—what else can I help with?” I was floored. No one ever offers to help. Not at casinos, fairs, or festivals. Zero. But last night? Every interaction began with “ma’am”, which, okay, maybe stung a little (I’m not that old!)—but it came from a place of genuine respect. And that’s what this post is really about.
This generation, this Gen Z crew, is restoring something sacred. Courtesy. Compassion. Brotherhood. Sisterhood. Decency. They give me hope. Big, bold, beautiful hope that maybe the world isn't going off the rails. Maybe, just maybe it's finding its way back.
To the young man who stopped to help me, and to every single soul in that crowd last night: thank you. You didn’t just make the night great, you reminded me why I keep doing this. Humanity's still got a heartbeat and it's playing loud and proud.
Stay Golden! #GoldylockSBand #GoldyLocks
