How Natalie Tenant’s Top Surrogate Elizabeth Warren Tried To Leave Coal Miners “Out In The Cold”

Elizabeth Warren, who will be campaigning with Democrat Senate candidate Natalie Tenant in coal-rich West Virginia, has not only fought for President Obama’s war on coal, but as an attorney, Warren actually represented a firm that was trying to deny health benefits to coal miners. Among Warren’s opponents in the case were the Clinton Administration, current-AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, and none other than Sen. Jay Rockefeller, who Tenant is running to replace. Rockefeller said at the time Warren’s client could leave coal miner retirees “out in the cold.”

Wonder how Natalie Tenant feels about her liberal teammate’s role in fighting to deny coal miners their health benefits. The full 2012 Boston Globe story here.

Warren also helped write a petition to the US Supreme Court for LTV Steel in the 1990s, assisting the former industrial conglomerate in its fight against a congressional requirement that it pay millions of dollars into a fund for its retired coal miners’ health care. …

The Coal Act was passed in 1992, to finance a fund for the long-term health care of retired mine workers and their families.

The case involved the question of whether LTV, which was emerging from bankruptcy when the Coal Act took effect in 1993, could be forced to pay out more money after its bankruptcy was completed. Warren argued that the company’s obligations under the Coal Act should have been addressed as part of the bankruptcy. …

[O]pponents, including the Clinton administration, argued that LTV and other companies challenging the statute were trying to take advantage of the bankruptcy laws to avoid their responsibility. And mine workers and their advocates also argued that if LTV or any other company tried to avoid paying into the Coal Act fund, the entire fund could collapse.

“No exception should be made to this act,” Richard Trumka, then president of the United Mine Workers, told a congressional panel in 1993. “When it unravels, you will have roughly 200,000 miners and beneficiaries out there that will lose their health care.”

Senator John D. Rockefeller IV, of West Virginia, made a similar argument, telling the panel that retirees, whose average age was 77, could be left “out in the cold” if firms won any exemptions from the law.

In Her Latest Mistake As Secretary Of State, Natalie Tennant Puts Business Owner’s Social Security Number Online

Natalie Tennant is at it again, showing West Virginia voters how incompetent she is as Secretary Of State. Over the weekend it came to light that Tennant’s office had posted multiple social security numbers on the Secretary Of State’s website. As reported by WCHS-TV:

“She recently learned her Social Security number was displayed for all to see, thanks to the West Virginia Secretary of State’s website. Ashworth found the alleged error while going through the site with a co-worker. ‘I said, ‘Wait a minute. Stop. I need you to go back to the page previous. I thought I saw something that shouldn’t be here,’’ she said. And sure enough, Ashworth’s Social Security number was displayed on the website – and not only hers, but also the Social Security numbers of people associated with the business.”

Natalie Tennant Won’t Say If She Would Have Voted For ObamaCare

Today, Natalie Tennant (D-WV) went on MSNBC’s “Up With Steve Kornacki” to talk about her Senate race and where she stands on liberal issues.

When Kornacki asked Tennant if she would have voted for ObamaCare, Tennant dodged the question claiming she wasn’t in the Senate at the time.

KORNACKI: I said there were two issues she singled out. The second one was rolling back the devastating effects of ObamaCare. This is something we’re hearing from Republican candidates all across the country. They want to run in 2014 the way they did in 2010 against ObamaCare. First of all, if you had been in the senate in 2010, would you have voted for affordable care act, would you have voted for ObamaCare?

TENNANT: The fact is I didn’t vote for it. I didn’t have the opportunity to debate it. Had I, I would have stood up for West Virginia and said we need more than one provider. We need choice. We need competition because our rates are higher.

It’s telling that Tennant acknowledges that West Virginians’ health insurance rates are higher under ObamaCare, but she won’t say if she would have voted for the law or not.

Come November, voters will remember that a vote for Natalie Tennant is a vote for President Obama’s failed liberal policies.

WV Primary Shows Yet Again That Natalie Tennant Is Not Very Good At Her Job

Back when Tennant was running for the office of Secretary of State, she said that she was committed to increasing voter turnout in the state, noting it as one of her goals when she lost the race in 2004, and again in 2008.

Today, WV MetroNews lets us know how she is doing, right in the headline:

But surely that’s better than the last non-Presidential year primary, right? The Associated Press says no:

“West Virginia’s secretary of state says voter turnout for this week’s election was 19.7 percent, a 4-percent drop from a similar 2010 midterm primary.”

If Natalie Tennant can’t even achieve a goal as simple as increasing voter turnout, how can West Virginians expect her to be effective in the U.S. Senate?

Natalie Tennant Still Having Trouble With Her Day Job

The hits just keep coming for Natalie Tennant.

There is yet another example of Natalie Tennant not being a competent Secretary of State in West Virginia. On Sunday,The Exponent Telegram reported that Tennant’s office was late to send out mailing labels to the county clerks so that they could send change-of-address forms to voters in the state:

“Area election officials say the Secretary of State’s Office dropped the ball in providing them with change-of-address materials to send to voters who may need to update their registration.”

The labels are supposed to be sent out by the end of December. Some county clerks say they still have not received them.

Remarkably, this isn’t even the first time that Tennant has been late sending the labels out:

“The Secretary of State’s Office was late getting materials to clerks two years ago and very late this year, Harrison County Clerk Susan Thomas said.”

If Tennant can’t even keep up with her current job, how does she expect the voters of West Virginia to give her a promotion? I mean, how hard is it to mail a letter, right?

No Takebacksies: Tennant Can't Run From Her Obama Endorsement

Natalie Tennant, along with Michelle Nunn and Alison Lundergan Grimes of the Three Amigas, attended a fundraiser the other day where Michelle Obama said:

So it is critical that we elect Michelle Nunn, Alison Grimes, Natalie Tennant. It is critical we get them to the Senate.

Sound like an endorsement? You bet. The Charleston Daily Mail agreed.

The Tennant campaign hilariously and futilely tried to do their best to run away from Obama's kiss of death in the story.

"What the First Lady said is not an endorsement," Duval said in an email.

But facts are stubborn things. The First Lady Endorsed Tennant clear as day at a fundraiser in New York that Tennant willfully attended. Just like she willfully attended the Obama nomination convention last year. No matter what here campaign says, Tennant is an Obama Democrat. She doesn't get any take backs.
