Harder Better Faster Stronger || Open || F2F

Alex had decided to start their day with early morning knife practice. Maggie had tagged along with them, making for an excellent workout. They left tired but determined, as they entered the DEO at 8am in the morning. 

J’onn had noticed Alex had a spring in their step, but didn’t question it, simply deciding the telepathic summary had been enough of an explanation. Alex had so much energy that they were able to finally finish up on the chemical sample backup in the lab.

They were just finished adding the information into the DEO database when they heard a loud noise. Alex grabbed for their piece, pulling her gun with practiced ease. “Show yourself.” They said determinedly, slowly turning round to face the person behind them.

There was a pencil balanced in Laurel’s mouth, an assortment of pink post it notes across her desk and boxes still stacked in one corner. As it turned out, moving to a new city and setting up a legal aid office? Well that took time. She’d been in National City for about a week, it wasn’t home but Laurel thought maybe it could get there.

The blonde was engrossed in her thoughts, as she tapped at her laptop, hardly even noticing until she heard movement at the door of her office. Only a small sub section of one of National City’s buildings, but it was enough for her.

“Hi!” Laurel smiled, pulling the pencil out of her mouth - standing up from her desk. “Can I help you?”

Carol was losing her freaking mind. She’d hardly been in National City for a week, and the stress was already building up inside of her. Taking taxis every day to long business meetings to discuss things that she didn’t care about right now was definitely a big defining factor of that stress; she knew she should’ve dropped everything on Lauren’s desk instead, but that wasn’t who she was. No, Carol just had to be the kind of woman who tried to take everything with her while hunting down a missing person.

So, that was exactly why she’d been going from street corner to street corner, stopping whoever would actually stop for her and showing them the photograph in her hands. Desperate and a teensy bit terrified - that was what she was, but she didn’t let it show, not in her voice, her posture, or her eyes. If anything, Carol was determined to keep her chin up because one way or another, she’d get what she came for.

She happened to make eye contact with someone and quickly stepped slightly in front of them, not exactly in their way but enough so that they’d notice her. She still had enough dignity left to maintain politeness. “Hey, really quick. Two seconds, I promise,” Carol blurted out, keeping her voice steady, “Just yes or no, have you seen this man?” She held up a picture of her and Hal standing in front of one of the Ferris Air testing facilities, taken only a few years ago when she’d lifted up the company from the hole it’d been in. They’d been happy then, nothing like now.

“Now. Now. Don’t get too comfortable with this,” Iris wagged a teasing finger. “I’m IT, not the coffee runner, but the city’s been through one type of hell after the next. So I decided to pay it forward, as they say.” She rotated each up around and read the markings on the sides. Once upon a time she was on the other side of the counter, marking up these paper cups and hating life all the same. She plucks one from the tray and places down in front of her co-worker. “I doubt I got your order wrong, but just to be safe, you should check it anyway.”

Flies on the Wall || Vasquez and Winn

It was a little amazing how quickly the DEO could turn a broom closet into a control center that could practically land a lunar explorer. Winn had signed on to help with the set-up, and the first shift of surveillance, and thankfully only needed to take a few hourly laps around the actual event. Rubbing shoulders with a Rich always made him a little nervous, and he had much more fun watching the interactions play out from the safe distance of a screen. Plugging in the last few wires into a clearcom unit under the table, he stood up and brushed the dirt off his slacks. It made him a little nostalgic for the glory days of the first Supergirl head quarters in the back room of CatCo.

Winn walked over to the chair where he left his jacket, rolling down the sleeves of his dress shirt to match the black tie dress code a little more, and leisurely swiveling his chair toward his partner for the night, Agent Vasquez. Winn was glad, while the two of them hadn't gushed their life stories to one another, Vasquez had much more of a personality than the other military technicians (who did not appreciate his nerf gun, thank you very much). "So, whatcha thinking the first item goes for? I'm feeling a nice quarter million. That's like a good charity number, right?"

I Spy|| Open

Conner narrowed his eyes at the small camera situated in the corner of his cell, huffing when the camera twisted in a way that suggested it was being controlled by one of the DEO agents. “You don’t have to watch my every move, you know. It’s not like I can get out of here.” 

He rolled his eyes when the lens of the camera seemed to focus in on him, slouching even further into his chair and crossing his arms. He had to admit that he was bored out of his mind. The giddy feeling of excitement that had bubbled in his chest the first time he flew had been abruptly cut off when he was grabbed by an unknown woman and forced into a van only to end up in the plain white cell of the DEO. 

“I know you can hear me and I’m sure there’s a speaker in here somewhere. C’mon, talk to me.” He whined.

Flutes || Open

It surprised J’onn, how much alien rights had come since Supergirl’s appearance over a year ago. The world had been a place where he had been afraid, for many reasons, to show who he truly was. Now, he was accepted as the Director of the D.E.O and currently at a very expensive fundraiser for alien rights. It warmed J’onn to know that there were many aliens who would not have to go through what he did when he first arrived on Earth.

He adjusted the cufflinks on his suit as he settled near a small table, his eyes on the auction ahead of him. He had considered bidding on some of the movie premier tickets, but he rarely had the spare time and no one whom he could go with.

J’onn grabbed a champagne flute from a nearby waitress, taking a small sip. “It’s quite the turn-out isn’t it?” he noted to the presence beside him, “who would’ve thought.”

Sugar Rush || Open

The humming fluorescent lights lit up the wrappers in a bright array of color. Winn pawed through the shelves, looking for something with enough sugary chocolate to keep him awake and maybe something with peanuts for sustenance. The 2 A.M. hunger pangs were the absolute worst, and Winn had definitely learned his lesson about not packing snacks. He grabbed a protein bar as well, he would hate to let a hangry Guardian out on the streets. Stopping over for a soda first, Winn headed over to the register and paid. With his bags of loot in tow, he went to head out, stopping to hold the door open for whoever just turned to come into--oh no. "Oh, hey--Hi!" Winn said, a little too chipper, dropping the two incriminating plastic bags down to his side, a hopefully a little more out of sight.
