Road Trip to Forgiveness | Para | Melasar + Nate
The last thing Nate wanted to be doing on a Saturday morning was taking an impromptu road trip, but Caesar seemed desperate. He didn’t know much of what happened besides that Melanie had broken up with him due to a misunderstanding, and he somehow cracked his head open on a metal bed frame so he couldn’t drive up to the school himself. As a new driver, driving long distances made Nate nervous enough, but driving someone else’s car that he wasn’t insured under was even more nerve wracking. Caesar wasn’t as annoying as usual, but there couldn’t be any music playing due to the concussion, which made Nate anxious the entire time.
After being on the road for much longer than necessary, in almost complete silence, the two boys arrived at the school: University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Nate parked the car by the front gate; he had never been to this school and didn’t want to get lost on the campus. Once the car was parked, Caesar gave instructions on exactly what to say to Melanie. After listening carefully to Caesar’s words, Nate sent a text message to Melanie that read “Hey, I’m at your school. Meet me by the front gate, I have something to give you.”

Dear Nate,
Sending you the spirit of love, joy and giving. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. I got you a Captain America button because the first time we spoke, we watched his movie. So every time I see Captain America, I think of you. I got you a shark bowl because it’s awesome. Like Captain America.
Love, Cooper A. Tracy
Matt/Nate
Matthew woke with a jolt, his eyes darting around the room, he didn’t recognise it, where was he?
He’d had the most perfect dream, one he’d had so many times before, of Nate storming into wayne manor and rescuing him like a white knight.
He felt tears drip down his face. What had Damian done now? Where’d he taken him? He wanted to yell, to get up and run away, but he couldn’t, he could barely move. There was nothing in the room, only a glass of water on the bedside table. He looked around, he needed some coke, that always gave him the energy to get up. He forced himself to sit up, having to pause mid way for breath. He pulled open the draw which may as well have weighed a tonne, and looked inside, hoping to find a bag of drugs, any kind of drugs, just something to take away the ache in his muscles.
Nate Goodman is twenty years old and a sophomore at Rosewood University.
To say that Nate hasn’t always had it easy in life would be an understatement. Born to his mother and father seventeen years ago, they were overjoyed at the newest addition to their family…they named the baby Natalia Cynthia Goodman-Osborn. That’s right, Nate was born a girl. For six years, the family lived in Greensville together in the home that Nate had always lived in, but there were distinct problems in his parents’ relationship. Their child grew up listening to them argue, until finally; shortly after his sixth birthday, Nate’s mother discovered that her husband had been having an affair. It didn’t take much persuasion on her part to get him to leave, but once he had, Nate’s father went on to marry his mistress, and Nate gained a half sibling within a year. Not that he ever saw this sibling, as during the ensuing divorce and the custody proceedings; Nate’s mother was awarded sole custody, and ‘Osborn’ was dropped from his name as he and his remaining family moved on without his father. Nate’s life with his mother was far calmer once they had rid themselves of his father. Ms Goodman couldn’t help but notice something strange about her daughter, who preferred playing with boys’ toys, such as action figures, over girls’ toys, such as Barbies. However, despite odd looks on the playground and judgement from other parents, she allowed her child to play how he pleased, despite all the comments and odd looks she got in the playground. Bullying has been a big part of Nate’s school life ever since he was young. The other children teased him mercilessly in his elementary school for being the girl who liked boys toys, the girl who didn’t care about getting dirty. As it does for most children, however, Nate went into middle school with the frame of mind that he had to be a girl or else he would never fit in. It made him utterly miserable and consequently because of his self-hatred at who he felt he had to be, and how uncomfortable he felt in his own body, Nate began to self-harm once he hit puberty. The influx of hormones that brought with it breasts and periods made him feel as though he’d never be who he felt he was inside. He could never tell his mother that he was a boy inside of a girl’s body. Nate’s mother noticed how isolated he was becoming. She was concerned about the fact that her daughter didn’t bring home friends like the other children. For months she gently tried to urge Nate to talk to her, but he just wouldn’t budge. It wasn’t until a hot summers day, when Nate absentmindedly forgot to wear long sleeves that his mother saw the scars on his arms. Nate broke down and told his mother everything, and she did what he never thought she would. She accepted him for who he truly was, and encouraged him to tell his peers and the rest of the family so that they too could see what an amazing young man he was. Obviously Nate’s admission was met with mixed reactions. On one hand some were supportive and didn’t treat him differently than before, but others were less kind. Nate has been the target of bullying pretty much all throughout his high school career. It started off with name calling and teasing, but it has now moved on to full-scale physical violence. It doesn’t help that Nate is very strong willed and doesn’t bow down to pressure, and often he goes home injured from the fights that he has found himself in. The one good thing that has come of this situation, however is that Nate has now begun to feel more comfortable in his own skin, and is open with his friends about his identity and his experience. A strong willed, honest and kind young man, Nate has grown more as a person since he came out than he did in the entirety of his time in middle school. He is not afraid to fight for what he believes in, and stands up for his friends…however as the bullying worsens and his father constantly giving him the ultimatum of either going to conversion therapy or lose his father permanently; how will Nate cope with the fact that not everyone in the world will be supportive of who he is?
