Quit drinking, Therka

“[...] I plowed mud to grow gourds. I helped to build shelter for every newcomer. I searched for usable scrap around the area and almost picked it clean. I did everything I could to occupy myself, to keep myself from thinking about the past,” she winced. “But when there weren't enough things to do, I drank. Almost every night. Some alcohol aged well, especially whiskey,” she mused, avoiding eye contact with anyone, because this wasn’t something she was proud of.

“You need to get yourself together, Theresa.” “What?”

“Therka, you need to stop drinking.” “Why? It makes me feel better. It helps to accept your death.” “All it does it ruining you. I don’t want that. Live your life, Therka. Change your name, or something, but don’t drink yourself to your grave. Not for me.” “What else on Earth is left to live for?” “Shaun.” “Damn.”

“Sure, leave, that’ll help.” “Therka, if you are not listening to me, I’m not needed here.”

I headcanon Winter projected Nate while she was alone in Sanctuary to help her cope with everything she lost. In a sense, he voiced her inner thoughts, the things she was too afraid to admit. When she finally accepted something, he stopped pressing the matter. He never told her new information, just strengtened her and helped in decisions, nudging her in the right way. 

 She had Codsworth and even ventured out to Red Rocket when she heard barking, but it took her a whole week to reach the Abernathies. They didn’t pay attention to Nate, which was just as strange as a woman appearing out of nowhere, talking to herself, asking about the currency used around here.

((So, I restarted Fallout 4 with Winter, loading the oldest save file I could find of where she already had her nose (I changed that when she stepped on to the elevator). This time my playthrough will resembles closer the events of Nuclear Winter. I have 7 ingame months to fill with stuff. I spent her first week building a house, it was fun. She drank, but so far I only found one bottle of wine. I also have the ‘Dual Survivors - Nate Companion Mod’, so she runs around with ‘Nate’.))

Okay, maybe not one but three new playthoughs. One for Nate, one for Winter, and one to see Danse and Winter’s son. 

In Nuclear Winter it was Theresa who carried Shaun to the Vault and only gave him to Nate when he started crying. He soothed him and the rest is history. I need to make proper black haired pictures, because she didn’t gray in an instant but over two centuries, but these were too hilarious not to show them.

So yeah, a third Winter playthrough coming up. (Btw these are from Nate’s game, obviously.)

Doing this for Winter, as I am expected,  I guess.  I love this particular personality test, took it while I was studying on an elective psychology course. I am most likely INTP or INFP, so I wasn’t actually too surprised to see the results...

Winter’s Love Type: The Thinker (INTP)

I was curious, so I looked up the best matches descriptions as well. Well, I think they kind of match Danse and Nate, respectively. I’ve marked the parts I think fit as bold.
