Based on Gloria Perez’s four original Eagle Books that raised awareness about diabetes in American Indian/Alaska Native elementary school children, this book, which approaches the characters as they enter 7th grade, not only handles the topic of diabetes treatment and wellness but also discusses water resources. While Perez did not author Coyote and the Turtle’s Dream, the series illustrators-- Patrick Rolo and Lisa A. Fifield, remain the same.
