Kicking off spring with a Cassin’s Kingbird, spotted atop our lemon tree. Its sharp whistle echoed through the morning air—a perfect start to the season. This bird thrives in open habitats like ours, often seen hunting insects from a high perch. 🌿

We're running low, but there are some of these left! Three extinct North American birds heralding extinction before a setting sun. The most famous is the Passenger Pigeon. But the Ivory Billed Woodpecker has been I'm the news as of late, with thus far unconfirmed sightings. But maybe the least we'll known, is the Carolina Parakeet, a kind of conure once found in the warm American South. #passengerpigeon #ivorybilledwoodpecker #carolinaparakeet #extinct #extinction #sciart #nativewildlife #wildlifepin #nature #enamelpin #birds #birder #northamericanbirds #pigeon #woodpecker #conure (at Scribbles Art Collective) https://www.instagram.com/p/CiRLk6VARxI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
CHEROKEE’S HISTORY
We are very proud to be Cherokee Indian. 🌻🌻Are you proud of the Cherokee people?
🔥 By 1838, only about 2,000 Cherokees had left their Georgia homeland for Indian Territory. Cherokee into stockades at bayonet point while whites looted their homes and belongings. Then, they marched the Indians more than 1,200 miles to Indian Territory. Whooping cough, typhus, dysentery, cholera and starvation were epidemic along the way, and historians estimate that more than 5,000 Cherokee died as a result of the journey. 💥 By 1840, tens of thousands of Native Americans had been driven off of their land in the southeastern states and forced to move across the Mississippi to Indian Territory. The federal government promised that their new land would remain unmolested forever, but as the line of white settlement pushed westward, “Indian Country” shrank and shrank. In 1907, Oklahoma became a state and Indian Territory was gone for good.

We’ve also noticed more native birds have been relaxing around our dams like they’re at their own personal resort!😂 It’s a welcome sight💛 We really hope to see more native wildlife, more grass, more RAIN! This little one was spotted on one of our tallest hills! This reserve paddock has brought up a little bit of green- praying there’s more to come🙏🏻 . . . #ruralphotography #echidna #nativewildlife #thehillsarealive #australianwildlife #farmlife #letitrain #farmsindrought #droughtaustralia #allthingsagriculture #nswfarmers #aussieag #thisiscountryaustralia #storiesfromthesticks #farmersindrought #abcmyphoto #twillowfarm #drought #droughtrelief #outback #farmlife #ruralaustralia #droughtrelief #australia https://www.instagram.com/p/B_UlXljAvu1/?igshid=q80b2knivm5n
Meet Rufus! Do you know what type of animal Rufus is? If you guessed that Rufus is a flying squirrel you would be correct! More specifically, Rufus is a Southern Flying Squirrel which happen to be native to Indiana. Because of that we had to get a DNR permit to keep him here, and since he just passed his inspection I can finally post about him. Rufus is a 4 year old captive bred flying squirrel that was owned by a family in Kentucky. Unfortunately, Rufus was quite aggressive to them (and his previous owner) so we decided it would be good for Rufus to move to The Pipsqueakery to help us educate people on flying squirrels. Much to our surprise Rufus is downright cuddly with us so I guess it was meant to be. Please give Rufus a warm welcome! We look forward to sharing him with all of you while we all learn about his species! #flyingsquirrel #love #rescue #sanctuary #nativewildlife https://www.instagram.com/p/B1rpPjAHGxB/?igshid=1bok9ztpndnie

Say hello to Shadow, one of the newest members of the Wildlife Education Outreach group of animal ambassadors at @AmericasTeachingZoo! #AnimalFact Opossums are the only living marsupial native to North America. And the also have the most teeth of any land mammal here in North American too! Not to worry though, they would rather use those teeth on bugs, grubs, snails, snakes and other stuff you probably done like. If you see one around, leave it be - they are awesome-possum to have around! . . . . . #OpossumNotPossum #Marsupial #opossum #awesomeanimal #atz #eatm #NativeWildlife #urbanwildlife #animalsofinsta #savingspecies #WildlifeEducation (at America's Teaching Zoo) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoSPkfWFcd8/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=n1r9628ryw9m
We’ve released a number of possums at this location over the years and we discovered that bees have taken over one of the old possum boxes, how cool is this? #animals #animal #possum #nativewildlife #wildliferehab #australia #bees #beehive
