I’ve survived but i want to die
☕️ pls talk to me about Darkest Dungeon, i've been considering getting it for awhile but I Don't Know
OH BOY you’re here for a ride with DD! It brought me as much joy as tears and frustration but is it worth it? Ab-so-lu-te-ly.
It’s a dungeon crawler heavily based onto Eldritch horror/Lovecraft inspiration. So if you’re into any of these, there’s a high chance you’d like it.
The dark aesthetics, world and character design are beautiful and it makes the game really powerful and fits really well with the theme. The narrator’s voice is on POINT and you’ll hear him haunt your nightmares (makes very good quality memes too). The base story is Simple But Efficient™ and if you’re like me, you’ll come to (jokingly) curse at the Ancestor because if there was, like, ANYthing that shouldn’t have been done, you can bet your ass that he did it.
The (awesome) devs at Red Hook have been and are still working really hard on the game adding new content and really cool updates. Plus they opened to the modding community and modders went crazy with looooots of cool skins for the classes (please do note that I don’t use any tho because I like the original ones… but I admire the hard work and dedication right there).
Strategy is SUPER important if you want to survive. The game offers varied areas to play and each region has its specificity so you need to think carefully of which characters to pick for what region due to the kind of enemy you’re going to encounter. There are lots of characters with each having their specificity and good uses too. Your characters are gonna die tho, it’s like, a rule, like in Dark Souls, except no bonf– wait there are bonfires actually, and they are useful. (And under specific conditions, you may be able to bring a character back to life but at what cost? *dun dun dun*).The quirks and stress system is quite… stressing. But it adds a unique and interesting challenge.Speaking of which, the game is challenging (hard), the higher level you go the more challenging (hard) it becomes. There are tweaks you can use though, game modes that are easier on you but it remains challenging (hard, as in “I still haven’t beaten the game and I’ve played over a hundred hours” hard… But I’m more of a casual so maybe it’s just me I dunno.). I still love it tho.
What more can I say… it’s a dungeon crawler so it can be repetitive (prep up a team, fight, collect stuff, make money, upgrade your heroes/the town, find yourself having not enough funds, start again from step one) but if that’s not a problem for you, then it’s really cool! There are also town events, which can break the monotony of things. And the latest DLC offers a new game mode too.
Oh and the soundtrack is made by Stuart Chatwood and it’s so. freaking. GOOD!
ps: I just checked, the game in on sale on steam right now. It’s worth it. Definitely.
valentine's day is approaching fast (+ aro awareness week right after) and im thinking of doing something <:o
