How to attract birds to your garden all year round
It's easy to attract birds to your garden all year round all you gotta do is put food out for them. Make sure that when you do so you keep the feeders clean. It's easy for the birds to pick up diseases from dirty feeders and feeding areas. If you're setting up a feeding area for the birds it's important that you do it in a relatively open area away from predators. This will make the birds feel much more safe and more likely to revisit the spot.
There are 5 main types of bird food you can put out: 1. Straight Seeds (unmixed - such as peanuts and sunflower seeds) 2. Seed Mixes (these are mixed especially to attract certain bird species) 3. Husk-free seed mixes (less messy and works if you have birds visiting the garden who can't break the husks e.g. blackbirds) 4. Suet (vital source of energy for the birds especially in the winter months) 5. Live mealworms (great for breeding and fledgling season)
