Hi! I'm thinking of trying to write a script, and I kind of wanted to try formatting it as a web series. Are there any differences between writing a movie/tv script and a web series script? Thanks!
It has to be tighter.
Webseries are by nature shorter, so the jokes have to be snapper and the writing in general needs to be tighter. If you’re writing a show like Carmilla, which is essentially a bottle episode for an entire season, you have to be really inventive with the blocking and treatment of the space you’re writing into.
You lose the ability to expand your story and have to hit the delicate balance between showing and telling. Doubly so if you have a fixed camera, because you also lose the ability to get coverage of the same shot.
So you gotta be on the ball and prepared to go ham with all of your creative juices. Anything less than that and you’ll have a subpar webseries.
