When Albereth woke up, the sky was black and the cat[s] sat in front of him. Observing, waiting - protecting?

Not likely. He pushed his sleep weary state aside and Niall from his chest. "Navaeh? Lazy piece of elemental pollution!"

The shadow emerged from the wall next to him.

"You called, Master?"

Unsettling. "Have you been sleeping in the wall again?"

"I don't sleep."

"Rhetorical question. I don't like..."

Niall howled in accusation.

"I didn't even have tea yet," Albereth defended himself against his angry cat and looked at Navaeh again. "What's going on out there?"

"Courtmages tried to make the sky blue for some special human celebration and opened rifts to the underworld."

Rifts meant bugs, Albereth didn't like bugs. He stepped into his pants. "Let's clean up the mess then, shall we?"
