November 28, 2020 | Secret of the Nile
I began watching the Egyptian TV series Secret of the Nile, or Grand Hotel, on Netflix and have yet to finish it (I am currently on episode 3 of 30).
According to IMDB, “In the 1950s, Ali, a young man, arrives at the Grand Hotel in the beautiful city of Aswan to investigate the disappearance of his younger sister. He gets a job as a waiter and falls in love with the daughter of the owner Nazly. Nazly starts to help him to discover the truth about his sister’s disappearance. Then the story takes a different twist to discover all the secrets and mysteries hidden in the wonderful Grand Hotel.”
I think it is interesting, but it also stresses me out—but in a good way, that is, as a viewer I am on the edge of my seat? It’s the drama.
One person on the Internet described it as being “so, so good,” so that is promising! (I think there are spoilers on her webpage, or at least in the comments section, so I suggest proceeding with caution!)
What I liked about this particular screenshot was that I was at that exact same train station, or at least I think so. According to TripAdvisor, “the railway station is in the centre of town, at the entrance of Sharia As Souq [market]. There are daily trains to Cairo and Luxor.” I took the overnight train from Cairo to Aswan, and as I was exhausted, I slept like a babe in a rocker (because the train really does rock/sway). Below is my own (mediocre) photograph of the place in November 2019 for the memories:
