WOW!!!!
Today we received a letter from FEMA rejecting our appeal to Allstate Flood Insurance. What chutzpah our government has! We were required to purchase flood insurance or our mortgage would drop us, so we dutifully did. We did everything right to protect ourselves, yet when catastrophe struck, it was as if we had no insurance at all. The insurance companies find any technicality to deny claims, because that is what they are told to do, keep rejecting customers claims and most customers will just give up and go away. FEMA post Sandy “kindly” stepped in to “help” with a small pittance towards our rental while displaced. FEMA also required us to apply for an SBA loan in order to keep our FEMA case open. We were required to submit all our financial information to FEMA at our initial meeting. Why did FEMA need to know our income and financial assets when we were currently displaced and our house unlivable? Haven’t we paid taxes for years, supporting FEMA? It gets better, to actually receive the SBA loan we had to purchase contents insurance on our flood policy, our flood insurance co was happy to increase our premium even thought it clearly stated that contents in the basement won’t be covered. So now we are paying Allstate $300 more yearly for nothing. Allstate so far is making a mint off us yet not paying our claims. The WOW factor of it all is that all flood insurance policies are paid out by FEMA, yes I said FEMA, the government agency that needed to know our income to help us find a roof over our heads post Sandy. Anyone else see something fishy here? FEMA now knows every penny we own, we have been paying FEMA premiums for years, since we are part of the 1% not the 99% we have been paying huge taxes to our government and supporting FEMA in the process.. So essentially, we are being penalized for working hard, being successful, paying our bills and securing the proper insurance to protect our family and home. Had we not been insured, FEMA would have paid us a lump sum for our losses, because we have insurance that they denied we get nothing. We have a line of credit now so we can pay more money to FEMA in the form of interest. Why in the world should we be forced to borrow money to fix our foundation when our insurance clearly covered foundation damage? We have had Allstate’s engineer, Nassau County’s engineer and a private engineer all say Allstate should pay the claim and that the damage was caused by Sandy. So here we are almost 7 months post Sandy with over $100,000 worth of repairs, plenty of mold downstairs which I’m sure has crawled up thought the walls making me sick, and no end in sight. We now must hire a lawyer and take Allstate to court. Is Allstate really the one to blame here? Welcome to America, our country is no longer what it used to be. We live in a welfare society where those who don’t do get rewarded and those who do work hard are penalized. I wonder, had we had less income, would FEMA and Allstate have paid our claims? All I can say is WOW! FEMA and Allstate, you should be ashamed of yourself. We have and continue to pay you so much money, yet you continue to do nothing for us.
