"You're too nosy for my liking, Detective."
Strange, how the lies blur under the weight of your eye.
I'd trade my secrets for a moment of this peace.
So what if– you look closer until you found the shadow.
Will you stay with me or is the dream waning?
I've had many iterations of this poem since last year and I'm finally happy with it now. It's Valerie's voice when she couldn't resist the normalcy she sees with him.
The song below gave me the initial inspiration. Maybe some day I'll post the initial version of the poem
“What’s breakfast?” she asked. “Donuts.” He sat beside her, offering the plate before biting into one himself. V sat up, settling kisses on his jaw. The rasp of his stubble tickled her lips. “I don’t do sweets, River.”

V was there last night at the snackbar. Lady behind the counter broke into a wide grin and threw in a little extra for her, with a second paper bag that was turning translucent with oil. Then she asked about Jackie. But what was she supposed to say, that he bled dry next to her? "Shithead's too busy to dick around here with me," V said. It almost brought her a smile thinking of the first time they were there, both drenched in sweat and blood after a gig. The lady thought they were robbing her. It felt like a life time ago, even though it'd been only a few months since... well, Konpeki. Now she couldn't remember how they'd become friends with the lady. Must be Jackie. They finally had the one he loved. Chicken flavor. The lady made 'em spicier than ever, the way he liked 'em, and as always V couldn't finish 'em all. Ended up leaving the rest for a hairless cat lurking by the trash, its ribs sharp under the hairless skin. Who else could she give 'em to anyway?
Got the first VP shot with Jackie, thought it was funny and wanted to write a banter for them. Then I saw this post from @queen-rhaenys-opress that I adore, and it inspired me to make the second shot.
I wanted to share something I wrote recetly, but lately it's been all about rewriting a scene of a few hundred words in chapter 1, which isn't particularly fun to share. (Why I never feel like sharing my work on AO3... because things always change!)
Anyway this one's been eating dust since January. Every time I come back to read it, it gets me into a certain mood i don't particularly like. Im glad I wrote it though, because Jackie deserves it, and because I will always miss him.
WIP~
Initially I was aiming to write a V/River story. Now I really don't know what I am writing anymore, but I'm having a lot of fun! I got an idea for a prologue today, which got me very excited, but also I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to execute it very well (? it's always the case isn't it, when I thought it's a good idea it'd turn out terrible). Anyway, I've also been re-writing and editing chapter 1 since FOREVER now and here's a tiny snapshot of it:
V jolted awake to the vibration of her agent, drenched in sweat. She'd barely slept, unable to recall the last time she checked the time while she was awake in her bed. And she’d slept badly, trapped in dreams of the security guard from Ho-Oh, the face of him blown open by a bullet fired from V’s pistol. His face was a distorted shape, dark crimson spilling out of the hole the shot had opened. But the gun wasn’t held by V but a stranger, whose face she couldn’t recall now, and the guard screamed and screamed at V while she, without saying a word, watched it happen. Variance of an image. Nothing new, only that the face of the guard was usually another man or woman who she refused to think of, floating mid-air after her in an edgeless dark space, wet crimson painted over the face. It never touched her, but never quite stopped screaming. Panting, she dragged in a few breaths, gulped down the cup of water by her bed, then checked her agent for the message that woke her. It was 5:26a.m.
They say she's a siren, weaving illusion and ruin. I say she's a tailor, mending what she can't bring back.
I've been a bit burned out at work and, with my energy and motivation often drained by the end of the day, I haven't been reading or writing much. But every time I find the drive to do it, it feels amazing. It doesn't really matter what I read or write anymore. Just doing a little of it makes me feel alive, because it feels like the only thing I do that's for me and only me. So I decided to make it a ritual to celebrate it if I manage to do even a little something fun for myself in the week.
In the last two weeks I wrote about 600-1000 words. A little fragment:
“Sounds like a marvelous opportunity,” from the driver’s seat, Robert said into his watch, a thin sliver of smooth glass on his wrist. His voice carried an effortless poise. “But I’ve developed a rather boring rule: If I have to ask twice who’s really behind the scenes, I’m probably better off staying home.”
I've become a little obsessed with V's father lately, so i wrote a little something for him. But now I'm stuck with the plot (again lol). I'm probably never gonna be able to finish this story 😭

Haven’t been writing much lately but mostly editing. I've been working on this one (still am):
It left her alone in a space so vast she felt herself thinning out—as if she might vanish, and no one would ever know.
