National Caribbean-American Heritage Month final Day June 30. #NCAHM2021 Caribbean Americans are a mixture of the world's cultures and religions with a strong influence from West/Central Africa. The slave trade and sustainability of colonial economies changed the hemisphere and America in profound ways. Our languages and accents are rich and distinctive. We share a bond and passion for commonly prepared meals with recipe twists and a menu of tropical fruits. Our music fuels the rhythms of celebratory traditions. We travel to America taking the tools of our culture for survival, acclimation and inspiration. We influence the communities and cultures we adopt in taste, sound and emotion. As long as there is open immigration, we will be on the move to write another chapter. We ask that you plan to be counted in this years Census using the specific category for Caribbean-Americans - as one has to self identify race and nationality or heritage affiliation (Black, Jamaican/Haitian or Asian, Guyanese/Trinidadian) - including those Hispanics/Latinos who share elements of Caribbean culture). It is complex, but necessary to fully understand this slice of the American population - estimated in millions nationally.
