Let’s first understand some basic terms. Traditionally, a cylinder was a three-dimensional solid, one of the most fundamental curvilinear geometric forms. It is an idealised representation of a solid physical tin can with top and bottom lids. Geometrically, it resembles a prism with a circle as its basis. This conventional viewpoint is still used in introductory geometry studies, but the advanced mathematical viewpoint has changed to the infinite curved surface, which is how a cylinder is now described in many current disciplines of geometry and topology. A cylindrical surface is made up of all the points on all the lines that are parallel to a given line and pass through a set plane curve in a plane that is not parallel to the given line. An element of the cylindrical surface is any line in this family of parallel lines. In kinematics, a cylindrical surface is that surface sketched out by a line, called the generatrix, that moves parallel to itself and always passes through the directrix given a plane curve called the directrix. Any location of the generatrix is a component of the cylindrical surface.
