Tears welled in the innocent wide eyes of a child, hiccups passed his lips, grass staining the knees of his dress clothes as he wandered in circles around the edge of the park. The child was told not to run off, but what five year old listened to that? And all it took was a few moments, falling down a hill, and the bravado that had overcome him had all but evaporated.
After all, he was only five.
Soft whimpers, hiccups as tears threatened to fall, his bottom lip poked out, trembling as fear overtook him.
Lost and alone was the last thing a child wanted to be.
The bright pink and white caught his eyes before the person wearing it registered. Bright colors had always been safe in the church, Brother Gabriel always wore white like that.
As a child, it didn’t cross his mind to think twice. Instead, he stepped over, tugging at the stranger’s sleeve with tiny sniffles, still struggling to hold back his tears.
