[ch.0] “Hurry, Yuta! It might fly away!”
The young boy followed his friend, his quiet footsteps in the grass picking up rhythm. “Wait up!” he shouted, fighting the slight pain in his throat from heavy breathing. The other stood still in front of a large bush and waited as the child caught up.
“Where is it...?” his companion mumbled, pushing branches around in an attempt to spot the insect he had been blabbering about. Yuta watched the plant closely, widening his eyes as if doing so would allow him to see further into the cluster of greenery. After not noticing anything other than leaves, he tilted his head to get a new angle. The sunlight reflecting off the leaves moved in sync, causing him to smile to himself. The boy swayed his head from side to side, observing the seesaw of the gleam.
A light humming suddenly sounded from behind the duo. Both children whipped their heads around to see a large orange beetle soaring over the top of the garden wall.
“Nooo! I wanted to capture it and show it to Papa...”
Yuta patted the other’s shoulder comfortingly. “It’s okay! Let’s find another bug to show to His Highness.” He skipped over to the pond, scanning the water’s surface for the jumping insects he knew enjoyed prancing on the aqua.
“O-Okay.. But can we do it later? I want to play some more.”
He smiled. “Sure.”
