"The secret rendezvous, the intensity, the guilt — it's all a magnetic pull in Donghyuck's"
Trailer:
Synopsis:
Skeletonz vs Wreckers. Two different worlds—one born in boardrooms, the other in back alleys.
The Skeletonz rule the South Side: sleek, sharp, and always two moves ahead. They dress like elites, talk with silver spoons in their mouth, and scam like devils. For them, crime isn’t survival—it’s business. Quick money, cleaner hands, clever exits and bright futures. At the top sits Donghyuck, a master manipulator with a smile you shouldn’t trust. His crew? Precision weapons disguised as pretty faces.
The Wreckers come from the dirt. Abandoned buildings. Broken homes. Raised by the streets and bonded by bruises, they don't play chess—they fight. At their core is Mark, the chaos king of the North Side, whose fists do the talking. His gang? Raw loyalty, real scars, and enough fire to burn their way out of hell.
Then comes Auemi... new to the South, quiet but sharp, the kind of girl who doesn’t flinch when danger stares back. She catches the eye of Donghyuck almost instantly—not because he trusts her, but because he doesn’t. There’s something off. Something familiar. And soon enough, he finds it: she’s tied to Mark, and worse, the Wreckers.
It doesn’t take long for word to spread: the Wreckers are eyeing the South Side and all its riches. They're done surviving; they want power, fear, and recognition. And they're ready to expose just how fragile the Skeletonz really are.
For Donghyuck, that’s not just a threat. It’s personal.
So he makes a new plan—not just to push the Wreckers out, but to destroy them from the inside.
Starting with Auemi.
But what begins as a cold, calculated move turns into something messier, riskier, and far more dangerous than Donghyuck expected—because feelings get involved, and enemies don’t stay enemies for long when the lines start to blur.
Now, Auemi’s caught between two gang leaders, both dangerous in their own way—one who’s always wanted to protect her, and one who’s learning how to want at all.
In this game of smoke and shadows, loyalty has a price, and love might be the deadliest con of all.
Donghyuck: 24 | Aka Sunshine. Brilliant in class, cold in the streets. Leader of the Skeletonz. Known for his charm, but every word’s a setup. Schemes are his second nature.
Jeno: 24 | Aka Midnight. A powerhouse in the ring, a strategist in the dark. His money’s gone in minutes, but his loyalty comes with a price.
Chenle: 23 | Aka God of Speed. High on smoke and speed. Born rich, but lives like he’s got something to prove. On the track, he doesn’t chase wins—he collects them
Jvcki: 23 | Aka Mouse. Small frame, big damage. People call her Mouse—until she blows the room up. Underestimated is her favorite advantage
(Rival) WRECKERS CREW: Mark | Jaemin | Renjun | Jisung
Mark: 26 | Aka TKO/One punch. Nicknamed after a fatal punch that put someone in coma for a week. Leader of the wreckers. Chaotic. Fighting is his passion. He loves to party.
Jaemin: 24 | Aka Ghost. He was once an aspiring doctor, but on the streets he's mostly known for being the fastest speedster alive. A mastermind in sneaking in and out of places while being unnoticed.
Renjun: 25 | Aka Echo. Communications is his special key. He can yap anyone's ear off. Others say he's annoying, his gang members testify to doors being open because of him.
Jisung: 21 | Aka Creep. Definition of loyalty. Will get punched and smacked around all in the name of honoring Mark. Youngster who just wants to be a gangster and follow Mark.

No matter how many times Haechan denies it, his friends would think the exact opposite. In the words of his good friend Huang Renjun, the reason why Haechan never shuts up is because he’s so in love with himself he just loves the sound of his own voice.
Rightfully so, Haechan always reasons out. Why would he not love it when he consistently scores high 90’s whenever they have karaoke nights. One game he know he doesn’t have to cheat his way into winning.
"Oh god, shut up please" Renjun groans
"What, I'm right though. If only I work out a bit more, I'm sure I can beat Jaemin on arm wrestling. Give me until the end of the year"
"I'd give good money to see that" Jaemin mumbles
"You'll bet on me right?" Haechan asks Renjun
"That's stupid, here why don't we make a bet. I bet you can't keep your mouth shut for the rest of the night" Renjun proposes, he knows just how competitive Haechan can get.
"If I win?"
"I'll be your personal slave for a week"
"Make it a month" Haechan negotiates, waiting for Renjun to say yes.
"Deal" Renjun says, knowing his friend would last 5 minutes. "If I win, you'll be my personal errand boy" Haechan rolls his eyes, acting like he's zipping his lips and throwing the key away.
"Goodluck with that" Jaemin laughs, waiting to see who wins. He knows Renjun would, Renjun is never wrong.
"Who needs another drink?" Jaemin asks, ready to stand up but Haechan stops him. "Oh, you haven't lost yet but since you're offering. I'll get 1 more beer" Jaemin tells him
"Same here, make that 2 more"
Haechan salutes to his friends before walking away, keeping his lips shut tight. If there's something Haechan loved more than his voice, it would be proving Renjun wrong.
He grabs four more beer cans from the cooler, trying to hold all in his hands. When he turns around he accidentally bumps against someone or something, losing his grip on some of the cans.
"Oh shit, sorry. Wait I'll get that"
Before Haechan could say anything, the other person was already leaning down to get it.
"Here, sorry again" standing straight back up you hand Haechan the cans, only to see him just looking at you
"Uh you okay?" you ask, he just nods
"Okay, well I'm gonna go now. Sorry again" you mumble then excused yourself, walking towards the other room. Haechan wanted to punch himself, he wanted to say something he should've said something.
He don't even know you and yet he was ready to lose the stupid bet with Renjun even if it meant he'll be a personal slave.
"Dude, I just bumped in with the prettiest girl I swear I need to find her. God that was stupid, I looked stupid I just stood there. I didn't even ask for her name. What the fuck was wrong with me, now I'll never find her again. What if I never find her again?"
Renjun and Jaemin just share a confused look while Haechan rambles on
"What the fuck are you going on about?"
"The mystery girl! My mystery girl! I let her get away" Haechan groans, slumping down on his previous seat sulking like a little child who didn't get to buy his favorite candy.
"You know you just spoke right?" Jaemin asks
"Fuck that, I already missed my chance" Haechan grumbles
"I'm sure you'll find her again. Now open that beer for me" Renjun says,
"Why don't you open it?" Haechan sneers at his friend
"Well I won right, why would I do things I'm fully capable of doing when I have you?" Renjun teases Haechan, taking one of the cans to open it only for the can to burst out
"Oh fucks sake" Haechan shouts while his two friends doubles over with laughter, tonight is definitely not his night.
Ever since that night, Haechan has been on the look out for his mystery girl. Hoping fate is on his side and he'd bump into you again but it's been two weeks and not a single sign of you.
"Dude, I'm dying here. Can't you help a friend out?" Haechan exaggeratedly says as he takes the seat beside Jaemin
"And what can I help you with? Finding your mystery girl?"
"You know her?"
"No"
"You should be nicer to me, I literally woke up for this. I don't see Renjun doing this for you" Haechan glares at Jaemin
"Can you just order coffee, please. We need to finish this report by 11" Jaemin brushes him off, too busy typing away on his laptop
He copies Jaemin's order mockingly as he makes his way to the counter. Busy scrolling on his phone, he didn't pay that much attention around him.
When he got to the counter, he orders for him and Jaemin only to find that he forgot his card. Again.
"Shit I don't have my card, can you wait a moment my friend's over there"
"Sorry can't hold orders" the cashier says
"I literally go here everyday, he's right there. I don't have cash on me"
"I got it, here's a 50" someone says from behind him, sliding the money on the counter which the cashier takes with a smile
"Thanks, here's your change" the cashier says, handing the change to you. Only then Haechan looks back to see you.
"It's you" he mumbles
At first you weren't sure he was talking to you, so you didn't notice. But then you feel someone's gaze on you, he seemed familiar but you can't quite place where you met him before.
"Have we met before?" you ask him
"yes, yea I mean yes at the party. You helped me with the beer"
"Oh, that was you. Hi, guess I saved you again" you joke
"Yea, thanks I owe you. Twice. I'll pay you back though, give me a moment" he leaves while you order
"Hey, give me money" Haechan tells Jaemin, his friend shoots him a confused look "Quick! I'll pay you back, okay thanks" he takes the money quickly before jogging back to where you were waiting for your order
"Here you go, and next time I'll buy you coffee. For you know the first time you saved me" he smiles at you, hoping it would work
"Don't mention it" you answered with a smile. Someone calls from the counter, guessing it was yours because you went to take it. Remembering your name this time.
"Wait uhm can I have your number?" he's never been nervous to ask someone their number but right now he can feel his palms get a bit sweaty.
"Haechan right?" he nods at your question
"I have a feeling we'll see each other again, I'll give it to you then" you smile then walk away.
"Why not now? What if we don't see each other for a long time?"
"Then you'll have something to look forward to, see you around Haechan"
Leaving Haechan to watch after you mesmerized.
He already knows he'd wait all day or week or no matter how long just to meet you again. It's like you got him under some spell.
Haechan walks back to their table, holding his and Jaemin's coffee.
"Why are you smiling like that? You're scaring me"
"You can't ruin my day. This is like the best day ever. Give me the handouts I'll do it" he tells Jaemin, taking the laptop from him and getting to work.
"Why why why did you drag me here?" Haechan grumbles as Renjun practically drags him by his sleeves to the art wing.
"Because I need to talk to Chenle about something and you're driving me home. But knowing you, you'd probably forget and leave me, so I'm taking you with me"
Renjun lets go of his sleeve to get his phone, "Yah Zhong Chenle, I'm here. What do you mean? Okay and? Fine what's her name?"
Haechan wasn't listening to the conversation, making himself busy by reading some random flyers on the wall when suddenly he hears another voice speak
"Hi, sorry are you Renjun?"
Haechan knows that voice, immediately he turns his head and there you were speaking to his friend
"Y/N?" Renjun asks, "It's you" Haechan mumbles
"Yea, here's Chenle's stuff. He left earlier and forgot about it. Good thing I was still here" you explain with a smile, both you and Renjun still oblivious to the boy smiling stupidly on the sidelines.
When you sensed someone looking at you, you looked over to the side to see Haechan already looking at you
"Hi, you're Haechan right?"
You remember him. You actually remember his name and you really did meet again. Haechan internally panics.
"You two know each other?" Renjun asks, you just nod your head. "Yea, I kinda saved him twice" you joke
Renjun looked back to his friend before looking at you again, "He's being weird, I think it's time to go. Thanks again" Renjun waves bye at you.
You say goodbye and watch him walk away, expecting Haechan to follow but he stayed behind
"You okay?" you ask
"You said you'd give your number when we meet again" he blinks at you, "I did?" you chuckled. You do recall telling him that, not expecting him to remember it though.
"Yea"
The two of you stared at each other, he was just about to say something again when suddenly you smile at him and it's like the wind got knocked out of his lungs.
He takes his phone out only to see it dead, he looks up at you like a kicked puppy. You can't help but giggle. You take a pen from your back pocket then you took his hand. Writing on the back of his palm as gently as you could, "There. Call me if you need saving again" you joke, "I guess I'll see around" you add before saying bye and walked back inside the room.
"Yah Lee Haechan! What are you doing?" Renjun shouts at his friend, breaking him from his stupor
"That was her! Renjun that was her!" He runs excitedly towards his friend, looking at your number written at the back of his hand
"Who? What the hell are you talking about?"
"That's the girl I've been talking about. This is fate, we met a few times now. And look she gave me her number"
Renjun has known Haechan for a long time, he has seen his friend in different situations but never once has he seen Haechan act like this. Be this excited, not even when he beats Jaemin when they play games. Or that time he won over Renjun when they played monopoly.
"Oh god, if this is how you act when you're in love please spare me"
The next time he sees you is during the town fair. Some of the fraternities and clubs from university participated in the booths so a lot of students were roaming around.
He has sent you a few texts since the last time he saw you and he could never get past the introductory stage. It's obvious he's attracted to you, but to him that's not enough. Being attracted to someone can just mean you like them physically, he wants to know you. What you like, what you don't like. How you drink your coffee in the morning, what your favorite song is and all of that.
It's kind of silly to be this invested over a girl he met only a few times but there's just something about you that enchants him.
And just like that, it's like the universe heard his thoughts. There you were standing amongst the crowd, like that slowmo moment in movies when everyone else disappears and all he can focus on is you. Before he can stop himself, he's already walking towards you.
"Hey" someone said from behind you, making you turn around.
"Oh hi, I haven't seen you around campus and we finally meet here" you smile at him and Haechan swore your smile is brighter than all the lights in this carvinal fair combined.
"Yea, been busy. Are you alone or are you with your friends?" he notices
"Just me, I asked Chenle to come but he said he has basketball training. He's my blockmate and friend"
He wanted to be your friend to, he wanted to be more than that. He wanted to be just someone to you. He thoughts.
"Have you gone on any of the rides?" he asks, you shook your head
"Want to come with? I can join you" he offers
"You sure, didn't you come with your friends?" you ask back
"Nah, I mean I did but I already lost them so I guess I'm coming with you. If that's okay"
"Sure, kinda afraid of that ferris wheel though" you say, pointing at the tallest ride.
"Noted, we won't even come near it. How about we just walk around and check out the booths?"
That's how you spend the next few hours, playing games, trying out the food and just having unexpected fun with this guy.
When the sun was just about to set, you stood by the barriers to watch it. Loving how the colors of the sky change, you admire it like it's the first time you're seeing this happen.
While your attention was on the sunset, the boy beside you was very captivated by you. Haechan couldn't tear his eyes off you. He pulls his phone out to capture the moment,
"What was that?"
"Mhm?"
"Did you just take a picture of me?" you ask him
"Yea" Haechan answers carefully, scared that he might have overstepped your boundaries. "Sorry, I should've asked first but you looked pretty. I mean the moment looked pretty so I uh yea" rubbing the back of his neck as he tries or more like fail to explain
Instead of getting mad at him, you just laugh. Smiling at the boy beside you. "That's a fine, the sunset is beatiful" you mumble
"I meant you" he said, "Huh, that's a first"
"Nobody has ever taken a picture of you?"
You shake your head before speaking "Being called pretty, even though you took it back a second after saying it" you tease him
Looking straight ahead again, watching the sun disappear from the horizon. From your periphery you can tell he was still looking at you, "I didn't it say so I can fish out more compliments from you, I just thought about it so I said it. I'm being cynical again, don't mind me"
"You're beautiful, you know? And I'm saying that because that's what I can only think of right now" he tells you, his eyes never leaving the side of your face. He was committing every detail to his memory, this moment can be one of new core memories.
"Can I see the picture you took?" you ask, changing the subject
"I'll post it, you can check it there. Don't worry, you look cute there" he says as he put his camera away
"Hey Hyuck, thank you for today. I was getting stressed with school, this was like a breath of fresh air" you tell him, resting your cheek against your arm.
He follows your actions, eyes staying on yours
"Anytime, you can call me anytime. It's always good to watch the sunset after a long day, reminds us that even the long hard days end"
"Yea, I like the sunset"
"I can be your sunset, when you have a tough day just call me. I'll try to make it better" he tells you, voice sounding like your favorite tune.
"Okay" you mumble, a few moment passes just looking at his features being kissed by the last light of the day before it disappears.
Suddenly, you think endings aren't that bad after all. If this is how all your days end, if he's there to promise another tomorrow to you then maybe that one movie line was right. Sometimes endings are the best part.
After that, you and Haechan started to grow closer together. When you're not texting, you're on a call with him. You sometimes spend your vacant period and study in the library together.
You also notice how attentive the guy is towards you. You're not naive, there's definitely something there but for now you don't say anything. You don't want to assume, because what if you're the only one who thinks that way.
So you just let things happen, let fate run its course.
Props to Haechan because he is a very consistent guy.
"Hey Y/N, your boyfriend's here" Chenle says when he entered the studio, earning a very confused look from you
"Huh? Who?"
"Dude with brown hair, friends with Renjun"
You try to piece his description together, only to think of one person
"Haechan's here?" you ask, putting your brush down
"Yea outside, hey you're still wearing your apron!" he shouts after you but you were already out of the room
"And she tells me she doesn't like him like that" he says to himself with a chuckle.
Meanwhile you walk towards the entrance and sure enough Haechan is standing there. "What are you doing here?" you ask, catching his attention. Immediately he smile at you, striding across the hall to stand directly infront of you.
"It's raining, you hate going home in this weather so I just kinda took a chance if you're still here. Good thing I bumped into on of your classmate" he says, referring to Chenle
"Didn't your class end early?" you ask him
"Yea, I went back to my dorm then it started to rain. So I came back"
"You came back? For me?"
"You hate the rain" he says as if it was the only explanation he got when in reality he really wanted to see you today. The both of you have been very busy so apart from the few messages, you haven't gotten the chance to hang out. Reality is, Haechan couldn't wait another day to see you again.
"Did you bring an umbrella?" he asks you when you didn't speak, shaking your head to answer him
He chuckles before showing you the bright yellow umbrella he brought, "Good thing I came then"
"You didn't have to"
"I wanted to, we haven't hung out in a while. You probably buried yourself again with work, you need to rest" you were just about to say no but he takes your paint covered hand
"I can't wait to see your next masterpieces, I'm sure it's all precious to you and you want to finish it. But you're precious to me too, so I need to take care of you" he says, looking down at your hand in his. Smiling at how perfectly it fits right there.
You can ask a thousand question and he will always come back to you with an answer. Not once since you met him did he ever make you feel any sort of doubt.
"I'll just go grab my stuff" you tell him, giving his hand a squeeze before dropping it. Walking back to the studio to get your bag. Chenle was already gone, probably took the other way when he went. So you get your bag, took your apron off, turned off the lights before walking back to where Haechan was.
He spots you down the hall, taking your bag from you to sling it on his shoulder. "Ready to go?" he asks you
You nod, "Thank you, you saved my day once again"
"What did I tell you? I'll always be here to make your tough days better" he smile at you before throwing one arm around you to pull you closer, he opens the umbrella with his other hand making sure it covers you.
You did hate going anywhere in this weather. If you're home right now, you wouldn't mind it that much. Being out and about when it's raining stresses you out. You always feel anxious about commuting or driving or going anywhere when the weather is bad.
But right now while sharing this yellow umbrella with the boy you potentially like, you don't hate it as much so long as he's there to hold you and walk with you under the rain shower.
"It's your birthday soon, got any plans?" Haechan looks over at you, waiting and hoping for a favorable answer. One that would go well with his plans.
You shake your head, you weren't even aware "Didn't even know it's August already"
You didn't like making a big deal out if it, to you it's another normal day.
"So you're not going out?"
"Probably not, it's a weekday so I might have a class. I'll just go to the studio if I don't have any class that day. Why?"
"If you're not busy, do you want to have dinner? with me? do you want to go get dinner on your birthday with me?" he asks you, feeling nervous for no reason. He practiced this in his head many times but he can't say it straight now that he's saying it to you.
You giggle at his question, "Dinner? Sure"
"Really?"
"Yea, I don't have anything planned" you shrug
"Okay, cool. Uh how does 6pm sound? You can come by at my place" he tells you, he can feel the heat rushing to his cheeks. Hoping you don't notice it, you do.
"Okay"
Fast forward a couple of days later, it's your birthday. When you woke up you had one message, sent exactly at 12:01 am from one Lee Haechan.
"Happy birthday, I wanted to be the first one"
That alone was enough to make you smile for the day. You prepared for the day, did some school works until it was time to go over at Haechan's place.
Ringing his doorbell once, you waited for him. You hear a click then the door opens, Haechan welcomes you with a smile.
"Hey! You're here, happy birthday" he greets you, letting you in before closing the door behind you. You walk inside his place to see the table set up, looking back at him
"You cooked for me?" you ask him, trying to fight the smile making it's way on your lips but you fail
"Yea, it's your special day and I know you'd like this ten times better than going out. Plus I got you cake, wait did you want to go out?" he asks, worried he just ruined the night. It's your birthday, the first one you'll celebrate together so he wanted to make sure it was special.
You didn't say anything at first then you jogged to where he was standing, throwing your arms around his shoulders to engulf him with a hug
"I love it, thank you thank you" you tell him, Haechan can hear the smile in your voice and just like that his worries were washed away. He puts his arms around your waist to lift you up, hugging you tighter. He kisses your temple, "Happy birthday, I'm glad I got to meet you in this lifetime"
You pull away from where your head was buried to look at him in the eyes, "Me too, I hope all versions of me meet their version of you"
He smiles at you, setting you back down on your feet again.
"Let's enjoy this dinner then, how about a movie after?"
"Sounds like a lovely night" you beam at him
"Oh I got you something, it's not big don't worry. Just something you might need, I thought of you when I saw it"
You take the bag from him, opening it excitedly to see what's inside. A yellow thing catching your eye, when you take it out you see it's a big cute scrunchie. You did mention you needed a new one.
"It's cute thank you, I need one when I do work at the studio. This is perfect. Thank you, Haechan. Really this whole night is perfect. I don't like celebrating this day but maybe it isn't too bad when I get to celebrate it like this"
"Then I can say mission accomplished, if you're happy then that's all that matters. It's your day today, I wanted to celebrate this day with you"
You smile at him, hugging him again. Immediately he hugs you back, resting his cheek on your head he hears you mumble
"Thank you"
It's past 10pm, yet again you were too busy finishing your work to even check the time. You remember telling Haechan you'll text him when you get home but you're still at the studio.
"You're still here?" someone asks, making you look behind you. Chenle standing by the doorway, "I thought I was the last one here" he adds
"Just need to finish this piece, I'm just cleaning up actually"
"Surprised to see you here, it's raining cats and dogs outside" just then you here the rumble of thunder outside
"Headphones" you tell him, "Well you better go now, traffic is bad. There was an accident in town. A few cars piled up" He tells you
"Oh that sounds bad, was anyone harmed?"
"Not sure, Jisung just texted me on his way home to find another route since it was still there when he passed by. I think it's near your place too"
"I should go now then, maybe I'll take a cab" you say, picking your bag from the floor and following Chenle down the hall
"Oh wait Haechan was asking for you, I thought you went home earlier so I said you're not here anymore" Chenle recalls seeing Haechan outside the building maybe an hour ago
"What do you mean Haechan was here?" already your mind was racing, a hundred bad scenarios playing
"He went out to find you, I don't know where he is- HEY WHERE ARE YOU GOING IT'S POURING OUTSIDE!" Chenle shouts after you but you were already out of the building.
You weren't sure where you were running off to, but when you heard there was an accident near your place you got this bad feeling in your chest.
"Y/N? What are you doing there?" Renjun asks, rolling down the window the car, you spot Jaemin from the driver's side. They also had a late night at campus, not expecting to see you running outside at this hour of the night when Haechan left to pick you up earlier.
"Haechan? Where's Haechan? I need to see him" you utter, the rain beating down on you. The two guys share a worried look, Jaemin already searching for an umbrella inside the car while Renjun throws his jacket over him before running over to you to get inside the car
"Haechan" you say
"We don't know where he is, have you tried calling him?" Renjun asks, you nodded your head. You did try but he wasn't answering, now you don't even know where your phone is
"I'll call him" Jaemin says, taking his phone to quickly dial his friend's number. After a few tries still no answer
"Can you drive near my place, I heard something happened. What if-"
"Hey don't freak out, I'm sure he just forgot to charge his phone again" Renjun comforts you as Jaemin drives away.
Due to the heavy rain and accident, the traffic was bad. You couldn't wait another minute so for the second time tonight you ran through the rain
"Yah Y/N, where are you going?!" Renjun shouts as he watch you run through traffic
"I really hope Haechan's okay" he mumbles, looking over Jaemin who is calling Haechan again hoping the other would pick up.
Running as fast as you could, you finally reached the block before your apartment where the crash happened. You look around the busy street, police were still there but no sign of any medical personnel.
You look left and right, turning your head over and over again trying to see a familiar face.
Haechan was getting worried, it's late and raining hard. He should've charged his phone but he left his charger at home, now it's dead and useless. Wondering where you are at the moment, then he looks outside again to check if they're letting cars through.
Something catches his eye, someone running by. It was as quick as a second but he knows that yellow scrunchie, he can tell from a mile away.
Without a doubt, he gets out of the car to chase after the person. There he sees you standing in the middle of traffic looking terrified. Then he was screaming your name, he needed you to see him, he needed to be close to you this instant to ask you what's wrong.
You don't know if you were dreaming but you definitely heard him, looking around again you see someone standing a few cars back. You hear it again.
Then you were running. Leaping straight into his awaiting arms, throwing your own around him trapping him there like you were afraid he was going to float away.
"Hey, you okay? What were you doing running through the rain? You're gonna sick" Haechan tells you but you can't hear all his word, the sound of your own beating heart was louder.
"You're okay" you keep on repeating, when he felt you calm down a bit he broke away from your embrace but still kept you in his arms,
"What happened?"
It's like a switch has been flipped because the next second you were hitting him, "Ouch! what I do?!" Haechan asks
"You weren't answering your phone! I thought something bad happened to you! I couldn't find you, I thought-" then you were crying again, hoping he can't tell since it's still raining. Your tears mixing with the raindrops but Haechan knows.
Instead he just takes your face in his hands, cradling it ever so gently to comfort you.
"I'm okay, I'm right here see. I'm sorry, I'll call next time"
"You scared me" you mumbled
"Sorry" he tells you with a small smile, those three words were more than enough confirmation for him. He knows just how much you hate thunderstorms, your love and hate relationship with rain. And yet here you are, running through the worst weather because you were looking for him.
He hugs you again, "I'm here" he tells you
"Let's get you out of this rain, we're both gonna get sick" he says as he guides you back to his car. Once the two of you settle inside, Haechan turns the heat on and looks for something else to keep you from freezing.
"Wait, Renjun and Jaemin was right behind me. I need to text time but I don't know where my phone is" you say
"Well my phone is dead, I'll text them when we get back"
He was just about to say something else when someone knocks on his window, it was Renjun. "Did you see Y/N? She dashed away- Oh you're there. Well then, make sure you take a warm shower when you get home. Also next time, charge your phone please" he tells Haechan before waving goodbye to you.
Haechan lets out a chuckle before rolling his windows up, looking over at you again.
"You okay? Do you need anything?"
You shook your head, rubbing your hands together to generate some warmth. Now that you've finally calmed down, you can definitely feel the cold. Haechan ofcourse notices this, taking your hands in between his before putting it against his lips. Blowing gently on it to keep you warm.
"Next time, I promise I'll text you when I go out this late or when I leave somewhere so you don't go out running in the rain. You could've gotten hurt or worse"
"I don't know what I was thinking, I wasn't even thinking. You weren't answering your phone and then I heard something happened here, my mind freaked out" you tell him, watching him continue his actions of rubbing the back of your hands and blowing on them
"You were really worried about me?"
You chuckled, "I forgot I was scared of thunder and rain. I don't think I would even mind if a lightning struck right infront of me" you tell him. And it was the truth. Your fears were outweighed by your worry for him. It didn't matter to you, all you needed was to see him.
"I'm glad you're okay" you whisper, Haechan smiles at you putting down your hands. He then cradles your face again, leaning over the console to get closer to you. Tilting your head down a bit to kiss you on the forehead.
When the two of you arrived to his dorm, he immediately got towels to help you dry off. He showed you the bathroom to change, giving his extra clothes.
While waiting for you, he changes also then goes back to the kitchen to prepare hot chocolate for the two of you.
"Thanks for lending me your clothes" you say from behind him, when he turns around it's like his heart leaped out of his chest.
It's not that big of a deal, but seeing you in his clothes does something to him. He's pretty sure he's blushing right now.
"Yea sure, uh I'm making hot choco" he stutters, if you noticed you don't comment on it and he silently thanks you for it.
The two of you sit on his couch, waiting for the rain to stop while sipping on your hot choco.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Sure" you answer
"Why don't you like the rain?"
"Something happened, I got in a minor accident. I was driving home from school too, it was raining hard I couldn't even see the road. The car swerved off the road, thankfully I wasn't badly injured but it was very scary. I hated going out when it's raining ever since" you explain while Haechan listens attentively
"I'm glad you're okay" he mumbles
You chuckle, putting the mug down before pulling your legs up to hug them. "I was in high school, ever since I couldn't drive at night or when it's raining"
The two of you talked about everything, he wanted to know all about you and here you are letting him. You didn't even notice how the time passed.
"Hey the rain stopped" Haechan suddenly says
"Oh yea, I guess I should go. Oh wow is that the time" you see it on the wall clock since your phone is still nowhere to be found, probably left it in Jaemin's car earlier during your mini freak out.
"I can drive you home" Haechan offers
"It's late, I can take a cab or walk"
"Absolutely not, I'm driving you home. Come on" he pulls you up, holding you by the arm.
"Hey Haechan"
He stops, looking back at you. "Yea?"
"I'm glad you're okay" you tell him
He smiles at you, this time he pulls you to him. Hugging you.
It was unexpected. For a second he thought he did the wrong thing, but then he felt your arms go around him holding him tighter.
He kisses the top of your head, a silent assurance. He won't dare to say anything, soaking the moment.
When the two of you broke apart, he just smile at you before speaking again.
"Let's drive you home"
That was like the calm before the storm.
Haechan don't get it, was it something he said? Something he did?
It's been days and you're avoiding him. He sent numerous calls and texts. When he asked Chenle if you were coming you class, he did say you attended regularly.
What he didn't know was you were having a war with yourself.
You like Haechan. You like him so so much it scares you.
It scares you because what if this is all temporary. What if he's only doing it to be kind to you. What if he gets tired of you like all the boys you've liked before.
That's why for the past few days you couldn't face him. You don't know what to say to him, you don't understand your own feelings how can you even explain all of that to him.
Chenle knows all about your dilemma, after all he is one of your closest friend. Which is also why he's the first person Haechan looked for when he couldn't contact you,
"Just give her time, plus it's you. Give her a few days and she's talk to you again"
"What do you mean it's me?" he asks, confused
Chenle chuckles before answering, "I'm not about to pour out her feelings for her. You need to talk to her about that. All I know is ever since she met you, she's been happier" then he points at the latest piece you were making
"See that? She's been working on it for a while now, it's not an assignment. She said it just reminded her of one of her favorite days"
It was a painting of a sunset, looking so similar as the one the two of you saw before.
You weren't even there but that painting said a thousand words and confirmed everything to Haechan. All his doubts going away. He knew this was your way of talking to him.
This is how you confess to him. In your own way.
Haechan smiles as he stares at it.
He thinks he gave you enough time.
Meanwhile you were at home, half sulking half overthinking. This is the longest you went without talking to Haechan. It wasn't until you started to avoid him you realized just how big his presence is in your day to day life.
Hearing a knock on your door, you were hoping it was the boy you've been thinking about for days. But no.
The last person you expected to see on your doorstep: your ex-boyfriend, Lee Jeno.
"What are you doing here?"
"Can I come in?"
"Why?" your face void of any emotion.
It's been a while since you last saw him or even talked to him, he still looked the same but not really. Like this wasn't the version of Jeno you once knew and loved.
"I just want to talk"
It took you a few seconds before you open the door, letting him in your apartment.
"I don't have anything to say to you, so make it quick" you tell him
"Well first, I'm sorry for that messy break up. You deserved more"
You cut him off, "I did, I do. I deserve more that being broken up over text message with a measly reason of you being tired. What exactly did you get tired of? Do tell, since you're already here"
"I felt like I was never going to be on the same page as you, you had everything planned out. You're so sure of yourself while I don't even know what I'm going to do tomorrow. I was afraid you're going to meet someone else out there and realize he's better than me"
"I told you I didn't care, that night I said I was ready to wait whatever it is you need to accomplish first. I was okay with learning everything with you. You're the one who closed that door. You're the one who walked away, you don't get to walk back and ask if we could do it again"
He looks at you with apologetic eyes. Once upon a time that would've made you crumble and say yes to whatever he bids. But just as you realize this isn't the Jeno from before, you're also not the person you used to be.
"If you told me that a year ago, I would've come running back to you. For days, weeks, months all I thought about was where did I go wrong. Many times I had to stop myself from saying I missed you until I realized I deserved more than that. It wasn't the wrong love at the wrong time, there's no such thing as that. I loved you at the right time, it was short but I was happy. But that was a memory ago, Jeno"
"So I really am too late" he shows a sad smile
"One day when you meet another girl and you tell her about your plans in the future, about making more memories, I hope that it's true. I hope you find her again" you smile at him.
Neither of you said much after that, he said his goodbye knowing that this time it really might be the last one. This time he knows you really finally let go. There was no one waiting for him.
When he walked out your door, you didn't feel sad in the way you just got your heart broken. You feel sad for the girl who cried so many nights, who asked if she was ever worth to love.
You cried for that version of you who was so ready to love and yet fate forbade her to.
Before it got too much, you decided to take a walk to clear your mind.
Your first thought was to call Haechan until you stopped yourself. It's unfair to unload this baggage on him. He doesn't deserve it. Even though he told you over and over again you can lean on you him you can never bring yourself to fully do so.
What you didn't know was Haechan already knew what was happening. A few days ago, Jeno approached him and asked him what was going between the two of you. It was weird since he wasn't that close with the guy.
It wasn't until Jaemin told him that you and Jeno used to date, it's like the puzzle pieces fell into place. You never directly told Haechan about him but he's sure Jeno is the reason and the guy behind all your stories.
He wanted to pay you a visit when he saw Jeno walking out of your building, getting in his car and driving away. Meanwhile Haechan stayed inside his car. Thinking and waiting for the moment until he saw you walking out with nothing in hand.
He already knew what was happening.
So many things running through his head at the moment. How he's so mad at Jeno for making you go through this again, how worried he is about you and how he just wanted to hug you while telling you everything was going to be okay.
But above all he was hoping you don't retreat back to your old self, he doesn't want you to feel like you need to suffer alone and let your emotions eat you from within.
Of course he can't let you walk alone this late at night, he quickly got out of his car. Following a few steps behind you to make sure you're safe.
He watch you enter the park and sit on one of the benches. For a while he just lets you be. He knows you needed a moment for yourself. You needed the quiet to clear your mind.
A minute turned into five, then turned into ten until thirty minutes have passed when he finally decided to approach you.
"I knew I'd find you here"
You don't move from where you were standing, still looking up the skies counting all the stars over and over again.
"You know if you want to get away, you can just ask me. I'll drive you anywhere, you had my worried" Haechan continues, still you didn't say a word to him
"I can go if you want, I just need to know you're okay" he adds
"Why are you here?" you finally speak, asking him
"I can't let you walk this late at night alone, I was looking for you all day too"
"Well you found me" you tell him
Haechan feels frustrated, he's not even mad anymore when you won't any of his calls or texts. Or when you suddenly disappeared without a word.
He had his fair share of arguements, his friends know he'll never back down until he can prove himself right. But with you he can't seem to fight back. And right now it feels like he's about to go into battle.
"You need to tell me how you feel, I'm trying to understand you but you won't let me. How long will you keep on running away from me?"
"Why are you tired? You think I'm hard to get to?" you ask, this time looking over at him.
He looks back at you, checking if you're okay. Apart from the obvious tiredness, he's glad to see you unharmed. Atleast that's one less thing he was to worry about.
You wait for him to say something, the two of you just looking at each other. Before he speaks, he shrugs his jacket off before throwing it over your shoulder. You know he's upset with you but he's still taking care of you.
He takes a deep breath before speaking, “Was that what all the boys before me said? that you’re hard to get? because they got you all wrong. You’re not hard to get, you’re easier to read than my favorite music sheet. I can tell just want you want to say before you say anything”
“Oh so now you’re an expert on me?” you stop him but he was quick to answer back, not yet ready to back down.
“Is that so bad? Is it such a bad thing to want to know you? I am trying to understand and know you. That says more than any of them. You’re not hard to get, you’re hard to earn and that's a thousand times better. You like ketchup beside your fries not on them, you hate summer because of the heat, you like your coffee cold even in the morning. You eat Nutella with a spoon but you don't like it on bread. If me talking my tongue off, following you until the soles of my shoes crumble, run until we run out of road I will not stop trying to earn you because that’s what you deserve. You deserve a man who will go the lengths and beyond for you. You’re not a girl anyone can get, you’re a girl only the worthy can earn”
Nobody has ever fought this hard for you, it's always you fighting for the person. For so long you felt like a lost cause, a mere stop along the way until Haechan came and made you feel like this was a trip worth going to. Like he didn't mind what the destination would be, all he wants is to be on this journey with you.
"And how long will you think that?" you whisper
Looking at you right now, Haechan can tell all fight just left you. And not in a bad way. Right now you're waving the white flag, surrendering your walls and maybe finally letting him in. So he takes this chance and leaped to give you what you needed to hear,
"Until you believe me, and even after that. Until all the flowers wither away, and they bloom again. I'll tell you over and over again until the day that when you think even for a second if you're worthy to love, you won't hear their voices but mine. You'll remember my words, me saying over and over again that you're worth to love, my love" he breaths out, with each word the distance between the two of you minimizing until the ends of his shoes touches yours.
"I'll tell you again and again, when you forget I'll look right into your eyes and tell you you're perfect enough" he whispers, resting his forehead against yours.
"Do I deserve this? Do I deserve you-" "Yes, yes you do"
Then he was kissing you, wiping every doubt every question away. Remembering how to fall in love, that warm feeling you only feel whenever he's around. When he smiles at you, when he greets you goodmorning and goodnight, when he holds your hand.
He kisses you like he's sealing a promise, right in this moment he didn't need anything else. It was perfect, nothing like he ever imagined because this is so much better.
When the two of you broke apart, he's smiling ear to ear
"I love you"
Like the first time you met, he just looks at you. This time with love in his eyes. Looking at you like you're the one who painted his skies, like you're the sun of his universe, like you're more than enough.

“Yuta, please,” you whined trying to move from under him to attempt to spark some friction between your warm bodies.
“Just stay fucking still, damn,” he muttered while trying to shove a condom onto himself. You start getting annoyed due to impatience.
“You’ve done this like what? Nothing short of a thousand times why can’t you get it on now?” you rolled your eyes.
“Just shut up, for the love of God, please shut the hell up,” he punches the space on the bed next to your face, not even looking up at you.
“What is your deal?” you yell pushing him off of you and rolling the blanket up to cover your naked body from his wavering eyes. He was breathing heavily, eyes closed while his fists balled, shaking in anger.
“You know what, I don’t want to do this right now. I’m not in the mood,” he stands up looking for his boxers. You scoffed.
“That’s not what you said about five minutes ago bursting into the room demanding that I take my pants off? Need I remind you that YOU started this?”
Maybe it was the mental disconnect between the two of you lately. Maybe it was him not listening to you. Maybe it’s the pent up sexual frustration from months of Yuta not listening or caring about you. It’s not hard to notice how inattentive he’s been lately. He’s constantly bouncing a leg and looking up at a clock to see what time it is when you are with him. The constant secrecy when it came to leaving or checking his phone. The ambushed accusations when you question his actions.
As much as it pained you to say it, this wasn’t the man you fell in love with.
“I just don’t feel in the mood anymore God damn is that such a crime?” He continues looking for his clothes from the floor, refusing to look at your sad eyes.
“You’ve never not been in the mood for me,” you quietly whisper.
“Well maybe you should get off your high horse and remember that my sex drive doesn’t revolve around you,” he finally meets your eyes as he stands before you fully clothed, “I’m going out. I need some air.”
You find yourself unable to move from your spot in bed. The empty feeling of the bed, rather the whole apartment was jarring. You don’t know when this exactly started. Maybe eight months ago? It was around June, after you came back from his best friend’s destination wedding in the Bahamas. The trip was great, it was the time you really started planning out and envisioning your future with Yuta.
You saw an end goal with Yuta. You wanted the grand wedding, the drama from unveiling who out of your friend group would be your bridesmaids, the wedding cake testing, picking out centerpieces for all the tables, deciding where you both should honeymoon.
But you also wanted kids- four to be exact. You want the white picket fence, a family dog, and be the PTA president for your kids’ school. You wanted to grow old together, you wanted to be endlessly in love, forever.
“Do you want to do this one day?” Yuta asked while sitting next to you on the beach. He had one arm around you and the other swirling a bottle of beer taking a sip every now and then.
“Go to the beach? Hell yeah everyday,” you shoot him a gummy drunk smile up at him.
“No silly, I mean like having a big wedding,” he stares off into the sunset.
The wedding reception was still in full swing behind you two.You can hear Johnny’s baritone voice booming over everyone and the speakers yelling the lyrics of a kpop song. You look back for a moment to catch his newlywed wife dancing with her heels in hand and tripping over the train of her dress. Chuckling softly at the sight, you’re exhausted just watching them. It’s a good thing you both decided to take a break from dancing- and the open bar- to sit in the sand.
“Of course who doesn’t,” Yuta looks at you longingly as you continue, “But honestly I don’t really care how grand we celebrate our love,” you look back up at him, “I just want to be with you forever.”
“I’ll always love you, forever,” his eyes flickering down to your lips before meeting yours, “I want forever with you.”
“Really?”
“Forever y/n,” you push him lightly as he continues to admire you, “I’m dead serious. There’s nothing,” he pushed a stray hair away from your face, “nothing, that will ever become between us. You’re stuck with me forever.”
Tears prick your eyes threatening to fall. What had you done to make him feel that repulsed by you? Feeling disgusted by how you were treated, you slowly make your way to the kitchen after dressing yourself. Sighing, you open a bottle of wine and pour a tall glass. Walking over to the living room couch you dig deep into the space between the right cushions. Feeling around you find a small black device. Making your way to the sliding door, you are greeted by the feeling of a light wind. Plopping down on one of the chairs, you kick your legs up on the ledge and take a deep drag.
When you first met Yuta, you were a wild child. A mere high school junior doing anything for attention, whether or not it be good or bad. You would meet your friends behind the football field under the bleachers to smoke cigarettes. The taste would be repulsive but you liked the feeling of nicotine relaxing you.
It would be the new kid, Yuta, who was lost trying to find his class as the tardy bell rang that would collide into you causing everything in your tote, including the pack of cigarettes, to fall out of your bag. He would apologize profusely until he laid eyes on the small red and white box.
“Please don’t tell anyone,” you begged.
“Sure,” he stands up after helping you collect your things, “as long as you let me join you for a quick smoke? I’m pretty anxious right now, it’s my first day here,” You eyed him suspiciously, “Nakamoto Yuta,” he smiles.
“Well Yuta, you’re very lucky my English teacher favors me,” you gave in while taking a quick look around you making sure the coast was clear before taking his arm and tugging it towards the far end of the campus, “let’s make it a quick one, I have questions about the reading.”
You didn’t really know why you agreed to skip, but you shrugged and pulled him along to your regular spot. You stared up at him through your lashes as he lit up the end of your cig.
Your mind screamed at you to not let out a cough. Lungs felt like they were on fire, but the mission to prove yourself as a bad ass was proving to be a difficult task. Your mind tried to focus on anything in your surroundings to avoid the impending hurl that was stuck in your throat.
He was outstandingly handsome. His hair was a deep shade of red, his stature was tall and demanded attention, and wow was he incredibly hot.
“Ya know, this stuff can be really bad for you, princess.”
“Didn’t peg you as the type to judge much,” you bit back, “besides, you're one to talk.”
“I guess I didn’t peg you as the type to want to poison your body with this kind of stuff,” he tilted his head while watching you breathing in the smoke.
Well, maybe because you weren’t one to do this kind of stuff. Unbeknownst to Yuta, the only reason why you had the package in your possession was because you were holding onto the pack of cigarettes for a friend who was getting their locker searched by faculty. No one would ever question goody two shoes you, with something so outlandish. This being your third time actually having a go at smoking, you think you may have had him fooled. Again, you don’t know what compelled you to keep up this façade, you had only met him, but something was alluring and intriguing about Yuta.
Every ounce of common sense screamed at you to run the moment he proposed to finish a pre-rolled joint he was saving for later. But again, you found yourself merely nodding and leaning forward with your lips pressed to the end, struggling to suck in.
Yuta was a big red button with a large sign that said DO NOT PRESS on it, and at that moment you couldn’t read. All you saw was the shiny red button.
“Well, we all have our reasons don’t we.”
Next thing you know, you two were skipping third period everyday to smoke under the bleachers. Hooked on both smoke and the memories to be made with Yuta. You shared your deepest and darkest secrets to your most embarrassing moments. From you opening up about your parents’ divorce to him delving into his reasons for moving to town. He was so mundane yet alluring, every time you looked forward to the next crumb of him you could piece together.
Yuta found you absolutely fascinating in every way, never meeting someone so light as a feather, unaware of their outside bubble. You were untouched by the harsh outside world. You had everything he has ever wanted, the money, status, social life, and a family. As he would listen to you drone for hours about someone wearing the same prom dress as you, it was amusing- it really was your world and he was just lucky to be existing in the same timeline as you.
But for some reason you were envious of his aura, free spirit. His tenacity and relentlessness was refreshing in your small town. He was intimidating yet everything everyone was too scared to be. If someone looked at you too long in the hallways he would scare them away. He carried your bag and walked you to each class. He read your essays and made edits to them, he would even help you study, staying up numerous long nights with you for an exam.
However, out of the long list of reasons to fall in love with Yuta, what you yearned for most was his freedom. You admired how in control he was in his life unlike you, where everyone made their minds up for you. While he fended for himself most of his life, and worked for everything he has owned, you were given everything on a silver platter. Everything was premeditated before you were born, a picture perfect daughter in a picture perfect family. Your private tutor chose your course selections, you took horse riding lessons at a young age, excelled at every talent or skill. Maybe you liked how you would have to go out of your way to impress him. A small smirk of a reaction or a small follow up question during your stories. You liked the challenge that he provided, you loved proving every assumption he had of you wrong. Instead of the never ending competition of who is the best with all your peers, to capture the admiration of someone who didn’t have it like you was addicting. To have Yuta’s approval, his love, would be the most satisfying of them all. And maybe that was the most delicious thing about Yuta, his undivided attention for you. You were the most interesting thing to him, and he loved that.
–
It wasn’t until college, one of your close friends, Lucas, got really sick from smoking cigarettes that you two realized the severity of your addiction and the consequences of long term use. From there, you both decided to quit. Vaping was a short lived trial and error, proving it only easier to get your nicotine fix. There were nights you would wake up in cold sweats, Yuta laying beside you also wide awake unable to subdue his racing mind with the thoughts of wanting to smoke. That’s when you would have late night talks, laughing at memories of your early love, catching each other up on the other’s friend drama, and eventually fall asleep in one another’s arms. It was a process for you both, but it was a commitment you both were ready to make.
Slowly but surely you both just stopped. You were happy being each other’s fill in your respective voids, something nicotine couldn’t quite do anymore.
Then things started changing. You found him being late for dates and birthdays. He started leaving your shared apartment earlier and earlier and returning later and later. There would be some days where you would wake up without him and fall asleep without him next to you. You tried keeping up your end of the relationship, pushing down the feeling of jealousy and overthinking. That is for a while.
At 7:00pm sharp everyday you sat at the dinner table, food perfectly portioned for two. As the minutes tick by on the clock above your head, the steam from the rice mellowed, you would eat your cold meal alone, saran wrapping his plate with a note of how long to heat it up in the microwave.
Eight months ago, when all of this arguing started, you found yourself in front of a smoke shop. You stayed in the car debating back and forth if you would truly be giving up three and a half years of being clean. But things were so hard with Yuta. He was lashing out frequently, wanted to be around you less, and when he was with you he brushed you off or treated you like shit.
It seemed as though Yuta just was no longer your release of dopamine.
Finally deciding to say fuck it, you walk in and buy a vape to cut the edge off of whatever funk Yuta was in and keep your own sanity. You consistently felt guilty never telling him about your relapse but you couldn’t help but feel like he too had his own secrets.
There was this one time that you came home to find him staring blankly at the TV. His hands were gripped around a glass, his eyes refusing to meet yours.
“Where the fuck have you been,” he gruffly asks.
“I told you I went to dinner with my mom,” placing your purse on the counter and walking to the fridge, “did you eat yet?”
“Of course you did,” he scoffed.
“Of course I what?”
“You don’t need to act like I don’t know, I saw you,” he chuckles, “what’s his name?”
“What are you talking about Yuta? Taeil? That’s my brother, you know him? He came to dinner a couple months ago to meet you,” turning to look at him.
“Just admit that you’re jealous of me going out with the guys,” he lulls his head around to look at you, “It’s making you look pathetic.”
“I truly am not.”
You definitely were.
“If you want to meet up with your ex you can,” he sighs standing up and wobbling towards you, “because I definitely met up with Karina last night.”
Your throat tightened at his confession, “well, why did you do that?”
“Because you don’t love me anymore,” his breath fans your face, a wave of soju pinches your nose.
“So... you cheated on me,” you whisper as you try not to cry.
“No I didn’t. But I should have.”
Ouch.
“Then why didn’t you? If you believe that I don’t love you anymore?” you finally asked.
“Because for some reason, some dumb reason…” he trailed while his eyes searched your body, “I still feel something towards you,” in that moment Yuta crumbled. His eyes filled with tears, words stuttered after one another, “why don’t you love me any more?”
“I do love you Yuta I truly do,” you folded upon seeing his broken state, immediately cooing to him as you held him in your arms, “I really was with Taeil,” Yuta sobbed more into your chest, “and thank you for not cheating on me, I still love you.”
He duly nodded into your frame as you stared past him out through the window.
You really hoped deep down he believed you. But it was kind of hard considering they were both lies.
Yuta tried to believe you, with every fiber in his body. But he’’s not dumb, he knew what Jeong Jaehyun looks like. And there’s a burning image of Jaehyun kissing you outside your car at the restaurant.
---
You finished about half of the bottle of wine by the time Yuta came back home.
“Hey.”
“Hey.”
“Where did you go?”
“I just came back to grab a bag, staying at Mark’s for a few,” he said without looking at you.
“Oh…okay,” you whispered looking back out into the city.
“I’ll see you in a couple days…I guess…” he shuffled around picking up a packed duffle back from the shoe closet.
So this was something preplanned…
“Be safe, I’m going to head to work,” you wiped the stray tears that managed to escape and hide your vape back in between the cushions before he could see.
“I thought you don’t work on Saturdays?” he asked while tilting his head at you.
“Doesn’t mean I can’t go there. I have friends working right now and I can keep them company.”
“Ahh how is Jisoo?” he smiled.
“She actually stopped working there a couple weeks ago, I told you this the other day,” you muttered while looking for your purse, “just some others you haven't met yet.”
“Oh you mean Jaehyun?” he narrowed his eyes while you visibly stiffened, “I’ve met him a couple times.”
“Yeah he might be there, but I meant like Rose and Lisa,” you snatched a hoodie and walked past him, “see you soon, say hi to Mark for me.”
–
“Wait so back up, he couldn’t get it up for you?” she gasped while holding onto a mop.
“Yes!” you groaned, “I feel so ugly. I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong Lisa…” you grumbled as you sat at the bar of the coffee shop. Lisa standing behind the counter. The place wasn’t that busy besides a few people studying in the corner.
Lisa sighed, “you guys might benefit from some time apart. He is obviously going through something and he isn't man enough to confront you about it so he’s crawling to Mark’s place. And you are too much of a weenie to break up with him.”
“I would never break up with Yuta. I love him too much,” you stated as confidently as you can.
“So why did you kiss Jaehyun the other day hmm?” she leaned in closer, “I’m telling you this because I care about you. You loved him. You don’t love him anymore.”
Deciding to ignore the comment about Jaehyun you responded, “But maybe that’s just because he doesn’t put in the effort anymore, there’s like zero romance right now,” picked at your nails. At this point you're grasping at straws trying to find reasons to stay together. The door chimed as two tall girls walked into the café.
“Whatever you wanna tell yourself,” Lisa replied while straightening up and heading to three register, “but you need to do something because hanging out in your free time at work is really not it y/n.”
This is a mess. All your friends are tired of hearing about the constant push and pull that is you and Yuta’s relationship. You can feel their annoyance as you moan and groan at the same toxic situations that seem to only get worse. You knew they were all right deep down. But it’s been so long with him, are you really ready to let go of such a big part of your life?
“He’s got a big dick,” said one of the girls at the counter.
“Dude shut up we’re in public…” replied the other giggling.
“Wish I could relate sis,” Lisa slid in laughing with the other two girls, “how can I help you?”
“Girl, you are so pretty you won’t be waiting long that’s for sure,” the first one said.
“Aww oh my god you’re so sweet, I’m Lisa nice to meet you and take your order today!” you smiled at your extroverted friend as she posed saluting.
“I’m Ryujin and this is Yeji,” she said, pointing at her friend with the spit dyed hair.
“I love your nails, they're so pretty!” Lisa complimented. The three girls started a complete compliment war going back and forth giggling.
After a few more exchanges Ryujin spoke up, “I like you Lisa, you should come hang out with us tonight! We’re going to the club downtown, Yeji’s boyfriend is a promoter so we can get you on the list no problem,” Lisa glanced over at you as you looked away trying to pretend you weren’t listening in, “Actually, that sounds like fun! But my friend y/n here and I were going to hang out tonight, do you mind if she comes? She’s been going through some relationship troubles.” The two friends looked at your tired and disheveled frame sympathetically.
“Of course you can, we’ve all been there,” Yeji pouted and touched your shoulder.
“No better way to get rid of relationship troubles than to go and remind yourself that being single is way more fun!” Ryujin exclaimed, “Let’s meet up at 10:30? I’ll send you guys the address?” Lisa nodded and exchanged numbers with the girls as you sat anxiously, “See you all later! I better see you both looking hot! Especially you, miss girl,” Ryujin pointed a finger at you with a small smile. You and Lisa waved as they grabbed their drinks and walked out.
“I don’t want to go out,” you whined, “I want my Yuta.”
“Well Yuta wants Mark right now, so we are going out. Let me go clock out; be right back.”`
—
You could hear the music from two blocks away. Girls were hobbling around drunkenly in their tall heels and guys were standing against brick walls cigarettes hanging loose from their fingertips. Your mouth watered at the sight of the smoke, you may have even walked a little slower to just breathe in a little bit of the smoke as you passed by, walking in a daze as you trailed behind Lisa.
“Come on you addict,” she rolled her eyes pulling you along.
“I can’t help it, my feet hurt, these lashes are heavy, my boobs are so high up I can’t see my toes, and this dress is riding up my ass,” you pulled at the ends lower, “Haven’t been this dressed up since senior prom, I don’t know how I used to live like this.”
“I kinda miss her,” Lisa softly smiled.
“Hey girls over here!” You saw Ryujin and Yeji waving at you from across the street. Lisa locked hands with you as you both crossed the busy street hurriedly.
“Let’s go have fun,” Ryujin yelled as she roped her arm in yours and headed inside.
–
This is actually really fun. It’s been years since you and Yuta went out clubbing since he tends to get jealous easily. Well that is used to get jealous easily. The music was thumping and you were a few too many shots in too deep. You were swaying with the girls, hair flying everywhere, your feet were burning, but you didn’t even care. There was a surge of confidence that filled you that you haven't felt in a while. You felt absolutely sexy and it wasn’t because of Yuta or doing yourself up for Yuta it was because of you. You felt the eyes of many on your body as you rolled your hips to the beat, hands running through your hair and mouthing the words to songs.
“Yo fuck your boyfriend!” Yeji yelled over the music to you, “You’re hot! He’s missing out!”
“You know what? I am hot!” you laughed dancing with her, “let’s go get a drink.”
You both made your way to the bar, Lisa dancing with a cute guy, and Ryujin nowhere to be seen.
“She’s probably with that guy she matched with on Tinder,” Yeji slurred as her words answered your thoughts.
“Okay!” you both took three more shots back to back, thanks to your two new acquaintances who bought them for you two, “don’t you have a boyfriend?” you wide eyed Yeji as she laughed a little too loudly at whatever his name said to her.
“Yeah, he doesn’t mind as long as I get my drinks and don’t do anything with them,” she shrugged.
“Get your bag I guess.” Your vision was getting blurrier and the room was spinning a little bit more, signaling that it’s maybe time to stop drinking soon. Even as you stood at the bar covered in sweat and curls that fell out hours ago, you could still feel someone’s eyes on you. Looking around, people were dancing together, some couples flushed against the wall making out, others celebrating birthdays on the top floor.
“I think that guy really wants you,” Yeji said into your ear, “he’s staring at you like you're naked,” she nodded to the left of the VIP section. That’s when your eyes met his, his expression unreadable. Surprised with a bit of confusion, maybe even a hint of… anger? His hands gripped his drink as the other rested between his spread legs, looking down at you like a predator stalking his prey. Your stare mirrored him, wondering if this is the reason he’s been blowing you off for the past few months. “He’s hot, you should talk to him, get your mind off that ‘needs to be your ex boyfriend’ of yours.”
“Let’s take another shot first,” you breathed out, Yuta clouding your mind.
“Maybe you should slow down y/n,” a voice from behind you chuckled before holding your waist to have you turn towards him.
“Oop, even better…” Yeji whispered while staring at him.
“Jaehyun,” you whispered before clearing your throat, “what are you doing here?”
He smiled, “I should be asking you the same thing y/n, I’ve been trying to convince you to come out to the club with me for weeks now.” Your eyes panicked and shot past him back towards where Yuta sat above, but alas he was gone.
“Well I guess the girls finally convinced me to come out tonight,” you shifted from one foot to the other.
“Your feet hurt?” you nodded sheepishly.
“Let’s go sit down for a second,” he held your hand, “can I get some water?” he shouted to the bartender who nodded. Jaehyun led you to a more secluded part of the club to a small table next to the bathrooms. He slid himself in next to you as you massaged your feet and grimaced at the girl pushing her way into the ladies' room to probably spill her guts.
“Now, you wanna tell me the real reason that you’re here?” he leaned in, tucking loose strands of hair behind your ear then slung an arm around you on the seat.
“I told you, Lisa made me come out tonight with a couple girls we met at work.”
“You know what I’m really trying to ask y/n, don’t make me say it,”
“Say it,” you said looking at him, “you have so many questions, but not much variance coming out.”
“Did you,” he leaned in, “break up with him.”
It was silent for a while between you two. The club’s bass continued to shake the table lightly as you swirled the ice in your cup.
“I don’t know what you want me to say.”
Jaehyun scoffed, “it’s a yes or no answer y/n.” When you didn't answer, he sighed, pursed his lips and pushed down the frustration that he had pent up, “I’m going to take that as a no.” You looked away from him watching Yeji grind on a guy as he smiled at her deeply, “are we going to talk about the other day?”
“No.”
“Y/n I’m sorry-”
“I’m in a committed relationship, you can’t do that. I thought when you asked me to dinner you meant as friends. I thought others would be there. Then you kissed me? What did you want me to do? I was already lying to Yuta by saying I was out with my brother because he doesn’t like me alone with you. I abused his trust,” you speedily said.
“I know and I realize it was my mistake, I misread the signs. You just deserve a lot better. I know it’s weird for me to butt into your relationship but I see how he treats you. I fully take responsibility, I’ll talk to Yuta if you need me to,”
“There were no signs to read at all in the first place,” you huffed, “doesn’t even matter though we’re not really talking right now.”
“He did something, I know he did,” your silence spoke volumes, “what did that fucker do this time, I swear I’m going to-”
“What are you exactly going to do Jaehyun?” you heard from above you. Finally lifting your head from the ground you made eye contact with the man of the hour, Yuta.
“Oh look who decided to finally show up after his girlfriend has been here for hours!” Jaehyun smiled sarcastically.
“Look who is making another sleazy move at my girlfriend!” Yuta exclaimed, narrowing his eyes.”
“Yuta, calm down, we were just talking, he was apologizing-” he stood between the two of them.
“No you don’t get to talk,” Yuta flared, “I knew it. I knew what I saw. You were cheating on me with him!” he screamed while pointing between the two of you.
“No, Yuta I didn’t cheat on you-”
“I saw you kiss him y/n!” he screamed in your face. You have never seen him this mad. Tears pooled your eyes, your voice failing you as you made grabby hands at Yuta.
“Don’t touch me bitch!” He pushed you lightly.
“Woah what the fuck dude don’t put your hands on her,” Jaehyun stood up scooting you behind him.
“Oh so now you’re her protector?” Yuta scoffed. Just as Jaehyun was about to throw his balled fist into Yuta’s face, you heard a voice from behind Yuta.
“Oh my god y/n!” you saw Ryujin wobbly running towards you from the bathroom with Yeji, Yeji’s boyfriend, and Lisa closely following behind. Confusion ran across everyone's faces as Ryujin clung to Yuta’s side. Yuta visibly gulped, arm going up to scratch the back of his neck not looking up, “I didn’t know you guys knew each other!”
“I’m sorry, who the fuck are you?” Jaehyun asked.
“Sorry,” Ryujin hiccupped, “This is the guy who I came with tonight, y/n! We met through Yeji’s boyfriend, Ten, a couple months ago, because Ten is all of our plugs. So he introduced me to Yuta! Isn’t that so fun!” she giggled while snuggling into his side deeper.
You expected to be a lot more hurt upon realization of the identity of Yuta’s other girl. But oddly enough, you were numb. In a way, kind of freeing? Like all of the speculation, intrusive thoughts, and days spent overthinking, your intuition was right.
“Y/n…” Lisa started while pulling you away, “I think we should go.”
“Wait…” Yeji whispered, “big dick guy… is y/n’s shitty ex boyfriend?” Ryujin’s eyes widened.
“Baby you said that I was yours, I know we’re not official but you said forever,” she took a step back examining him.
You couldn’t help but let out the most obnoxious laugh surprising everyone. Everyone just watching you as you casually went crazy laughing so hard your stomach hurt.
“Don’t worry Ryujin, he just…” you paused waiting for him to look you in the eyes, “says stuff he doesn’t mean.” Yuta finally snapped out of his trance and tried to reach out to you.
“I don’t think so,” Jaehyun firmly said, pulling you again, “I’ll take you home, y/n.”
“Like hell you won’t!” Yuta screamed trying to push his way to you, “baby I’m sorry, let me explain!”
“Jae,” you calmly said looking up at him, “can I stay at yours? I’m in the process of moving out.”
He smiled down at you, “of course you can.” You, Lisa, and Jaehyun left the club and into an uber. Exhaustion sets in as you stare out of the moving vehicle. Suddenly the realization sets in and the façade of a confident woman doing what's right for her- just crumbles. The tears fell into your lap, snot coming out, mascara running. All those days you spent hurting your back leaning over a pot in the kitchen to make his favorite comfort food, all the lingerie with tags still on them sitting in a drawer, you’ve spent months trying to convince your parents to fund a trip to Japan for you both so he could see his family. All this time, just for him to be seeking other women.
He never really was yours.
–
“Y/n you got to get out of bed, you have to go get your stuff from the apartment today,” Jaehyun whispered to you.
“I don’t wanna,” you muttered.
“I made you breakfast,” he sang aloud in an attempt to bribe.
“Okay I’m up!” you made grabby hands towards the plate in his hand.
“You ready? Did you tell him you’re coming over?”
“Nope. It’s still technically my apartment, I don’t need to announce I’m coming over. I don’t want him to have time to clean up or kick his latest girl out of the place. I wanna see how bad he’s doing without me.” You sighed.
“Oh he is for sure in shambles without you,” Jaehyun said while placing a small kiss on your forehead.
—
So, here you stand. In front of your old apartment, key in hand, trying to muster up the courage to open the door.
It’s now or never.
After a deep breath, you were ready to face the messiest apartment and a faint smell of old pizza, but instead you smelled… mahogany apple? And a spotless apartment?
Did that bitch really need a week to move on from me that fast and have someone else move in?
You slammed the door, kicked off your shoes and dropped your bag on the table, huffing loudly.
He really had to use your favorite candle too? How shameless can he be?
You heard quick thumps getting closer and a tired Yuta appeared with a baseball bat in his arms screaming. You couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight. He dyed his hair red, just like how it was in high school and he was sporting a faint mustache and sweatpants.
This really threw a wrench into the plan. You expected him to be a mess, living like a slob, and grieving the loss of you. But why was he doing good? How dare he have that luxury? He looked great, he looked like the man you fell in love with.
“Y/n,” he breathed out wondrously, “is that really you?”
You nodded, “Hi Yuta.”
“Baby I missed you, I’m sorry I didn’t realize what I had until recently. I just got scared of us moving towards-”
“Yuta,” you interrupted him.
“Yes, sorry.”
“I came to collect my things.”
“Baby,” his face fell, “please don’t leave me.”
“You don’t deserve me,” you repeated the line that Lisa made you repeat in the mirror everyday for this very moment.
“You’re right I don't,” he dropped to his knees begging for your forgiveness.
“I’ll never lie to you again, please just hear me out, before you walk out forever.”
You contemplated, you knew you wouldn’t be able to move on if you didn’t at least know his reasoning, so you nodded, “Please do tell me why I wasted six years of my life with you.”
“Okay I deserve that, please do sit,” you took notice in the way that he really cleaned the place up.
His eyes followed your trail around the apartment, “I thought I’d take the liberty of tidying up just in case you came back, I wanted to prove to you that I’m serious.”
“Congrats. You cleaned up YOUR living space.”
“Ours,” he corrected.
“Was,” you lazily said, trying to not focus on how he sat too much. Your judgment being clouded by rage lust.
Yuta began to explain himself. His spiral started after the wedding a couple months ago because after the talk you two had he realized just how insecure he was in your relationship. The talks of having kids, so many picture perfect moments for a picture perfect family.
“And somewhere down the line I realized I couldn’t provide any of that for you, y/n.”
“What are you talking about, we were doing just fine, not great for our age, much better than most of our graduating class from high school. We live in the city, we-”
Yuta cut you off, “We lived so nice because of your parents y/n.”
“What do you mean? We both got jobs to live as nice as we do, we worked hard-”
“No, your dad worked hard.”
“We paid for this place on our own?”
“Your parents allowed me to live with you as long as it was a nice place with nice amenities, nothing less than perfect for their perfect girl,” he leaned in, “so pray tell baby girl, how does a tattoo artist and a café barista make enough to live in a penthouse apartment in California?”
Kind of stunned you never really realized how much this place cost. When you were apartment hunting you never bat an eye at the rent, just envisioning the life you were going to live with Yuta.
“I went to ask for your parents permission to marry you, but they said that when you marry, you won’t be financially covered by them, as it’s a ‘man’s’ job to provide. Princess, let’s face it, I ruined the life you were always meant to have.”
“I- I still don’t understand how this is your fault? How does this lead to you cheating on me?” you asked, mind boggled by the new information.
“I knew, your parents knew too, that I would never be able to give you what you need in life. They reminded me of that. Reminded me how I made you get in trouble senior year, almost preventing you from getting into Stanford. Reminded me that after a year in Stanford I convinced you to drop out. I convinced you to move in with me. I convinced you to start smoking. I convinced you that you were in love with me. I convinced you that we could actually live our fairy tale fantasy forever.”
“I consciously made those decisions myself,” you said.
“But I was the catalyst. And I guess I got so angry at myself that I thought if I made you fall out of love with me, you’d break up with me, because I could never break up with you,” he paused to grab a bottle of water, offering one to you as well before leaning against the kitchen counter, “I loved you so much that i pushed you away. I need you to have the good life you were always meant to have.” At that point you were both crying in separate parts of the room just in your own thoughts.
“Is that all?” you asked.
“Yes, that's everything?” You didn’t even notice him kneeling in front of you, “I need you to go, to live your life without me, but before you go I need you to know I loved you and only you. Can I kiss you one last time?”
You stared into his eyes, the lust taking over and toppling on him in an instant. Lips and tongues fighting for dominance from the loss of romance the past couple of months. Rips of pain, longing, anguish, and a burnt love poured into your moment. Yuta’s hands searched your body, hands molded perfectly to your figure grasping at your clothing for the last time. Your hands were busy pulling at his red hair as he flipped you two over.
Small tears leaking out your eyes as you remembered the same boy who ran into you in high school. The boy you did everything to impress, to catch his attention for just one more day. Little did you know Yuta was thinking of the small little miss perfect from high school who he knew didn’t know how to use a lighter but tried to flick it anyways. How completely enamored he was with her that he stupidly asked her to smoke her cigarettes even though he never had one, only joints. He just thought he would be more interesting as a bad boy rather than just a pothead. Even back then he knew you were too good for him.
“I’m so sorry I loved you,” he whimpered as he rutted against you breathing deeply just for a chance to be closer to you for one more moment, “I’m sorry you loved me.”
Something in the moment snapped, right about the moment you were about to give in and rip the rest of his clothes off and swallow your pride and resentment for everything the past few months. That’s when you felt something sharp poke your thigh alerting your eyes open watching your reflections tangled on the floor, breathless. As he pressed his hips forward into you once more you knew. You knew that feeling anywhere.
“Was that everything, Yuta?” you whispered.
“Yes I swear,” he said untying his sweats, but you placed a hand over him, halting him.
He looked back at you confused before you silently moved your hands to his pocket pulling out a small familiar box of cigarettes, “are you sure?” you whispered eyes unwavering.
His eyes searched yours filled with defeat before his face fell., “I’m sorry.” You sighed and hugged him once more, knowing that this was really the end.
“I know, I caved too,” you reached behind you and into the cushions to pull out your black device, “I guess we both just knew deep down.”
Yuta laced his hands with yours, “It’s okay, I forgive you, we will grow from this," he said as you held his face in the palms of your hands.
“No Yuta,” you said, your thumb caressing his cheek with a soft bittersweet smile, “we won’t.”
“I’m willing to do-”
“No,” you stated, wiping the last of your tears, “we are done Yuta. You really had me there for a second ya know...” You walked to the mirror taking one of his cigarettes and the kitchen lighter to stick the damn thing in your mouth, “I really was eating it up too, you’re a really good liar.”
“I-I don’t know what you mean baby,” he stood up slowly.
“Ryujin is a nice girl,” you said while pulling in a long drag, “has really pretty nails too.”
“What does that have to do-” he shook his head.
“I think they were almond shaped? Blue and white, really cute combo too,” you stared off for a moment just letting it all sink in.
“I don’t know what you’re implying-”
“I think we have some icy hot in the bathroom,” you looked at him through the smoke as he too reached for a cigarette mirroring your actions, “it might help the ache on your back. Those scratches look painful,” you said in his face, “crazy how you can pull so much out of your ass when you’re on the spot Yuta. But tell me one thing, just how many girls can you promise forever to?”
Yuta leaned over the sink, shoulders hunched, defeated.
“I want you to move out by tomorrow morning,” you sighed before taking another out of his pack of cigs and heading to the porch, “Jaehyun will be moving in, I think he might really love me.”

Confess my truth in swooping, sloping, cursive letters - mark lee imagine
hello! happy holidays to all of you, sending lots of warm hugs. thank you all so much for being a part of my year💛I appreciate each and every one of you who showed love and support for my blog.
Haven't written a story this long in such a long time, i should give myself a pat on the back🥺😅also i really really like how this turned out, i hope you do too!
Song inspo : paris - taylor swift
if you have a request or scenario you want me to do, just send me a message I'll see what I can do😊💌
For my other works you can check them out here, and for my other story series’ you can check them out here.
“I’m going to cuff her, just you wait” you hear Mark say from beside you. While you're too busy trying to understand the notes you took down yourself and still not understand a thing, your bestfriend has his own distractions.
“Who?” you ask without looking up
“Aeri, the new transfer” Mark answers swiftly
“Like you would have a chance with her, it’s too early for your delusions Min” you call his nickname. Min, from his name Minhyung. Most people call him that, or Mark. But when it's just the two of you talking you mostly refer to him as Min.
“What? It’s not a delusion. We have like a lot in common” he reasons out, letting your eyes roll at his reasoning. You finally look up at him, and ask
“Oh yea like what?”
“We’re both exchange students” you shoot him a deadpanned look, waiting for him to say something else
“You moved here 11 years ago”
"So?"
"You know what if that's what you believe, go. I'm not going to crush your feelings this time. If you want to be dumb, go and be my guest"
Mark snickers at your words, not sure if it was you showing support or teasing him.
"What are you reading anyways? Just accept your fate and focus on something else" he says, looking at your notes. The handwriting is not neat at all, only you can understand it at this point but Mark has known you long enough to read it like his own.
"Dude, are you studying for the exam tomorrow?" he asks
"Yea why?"
"This is the wrong chapter"
"Motherfucker"
Turns out Mark was right, you were reading the wrong chapter all along. After having a mini freak out upon realizing that and realizing you didn't have enough time to cram a semester worth of lesson in one night, Mark had to calm you down and make sure you don't cry the rest of the night instead.
He made sure to buy dinner for the both of you before he walked you back to your dorm, leaving a pack of gummy bears in your bag for you to find later because he knows you'll probably pull an all nighter.
The next time you see each other is after the exam, your eyes were swollen either from the lack of sleep or from crying that Mark is not sure of.
"You look like shit"
"Thank you, like I didn't already know that"
He passes the coffee he got you before taking your bag and slinging it on his shoulder, "How did the exam go?"
"Good, better than I expected" you mumbled, taking a sip of your much deserved coffee "Thank you" you tell him, referring to the coffee.
"So now that you're a free woman, there's a party later"
"I know where this is going, I haven't slept since Monday. A party is the least of my priority right now, Min"
You do feel very drained right now and you haven't slept a wink, exam seasons got you staying up all night and crying in between the 15 minute breaks. The only reason you haven't lost the last of your sanity is because of the human walking beside you.
You and Mark may argue a lot but you have each other's back no matter what. He's your bestfriend, he's your mediator, you're his voice of reason.
"You can nap before the party. You deserve to relax after this stressful week" he says, stepping behind you to massage your shoulders to convince you further.
"You stress me every week, what's the real reason you want to go"
"I may have heard Aeri is going"
"We're still on that?"
"It hasn't been a week since I told you that and yes, I'm still into her. So what you do say?" he looks over your shoulder, meeting your eyes to look at you directly because he knows you can never say no this way to him.
"Why invite your bestfriend at a party you want to meet the girl you like?"
"Because"
"Because what??"
"Who would hype me up? I can already see myself chickening out, but if you're there then you can convince me"
You can only think of all the times you convinced him to do something stupid because when it comes to you, Mark can be pretty gullible. That makes you feel proud knowing he trust you but also that makes him an easy target for your pranks.
"Convince you to make a total fool of yourself? Hell yes I'm in"
A couple of hours later, Mark and you enter the party side by side. Already seeing a couple of familiar faces in the crowd.
You made your way through the crowd until you saw your other friends, "Finally, they show up" Haechan shouts, immediately passing a shot glass to you and then Mark
"To catch you up, we already started so you better get going" he tells the two of you, pushing the shot glasses towards your faces
"I'll have only one, and his also because he's driving tonight" you say taking the glass from Mark before he can say anything. Then you shoot your head back, drinking the shots simultaneously and earning cheers from the two boys. Mark already too distracted looking around hoping to spot the reason why he came here tonight.
"Damn woman, how are you not cuffed down yet?" Haechan jokes
"You're asking that when he's standing right here?" Jeno butts in, throwing an arm around Mark.
Of course they would bring that up whenever they can. Those two don't believe a boy and a girl can stay in a platonic relationship. Swearing you and Mark are meant for each other but too scared to admit it. The old but beloved bestfriends to lovers trope, Haechan calls it.
"He's only standing here at this party to cuff someone and that woman is not me, luckily. Have you seen Aeri?" you ask Haechan,
"I think I saw her talking to Dery outside" you then turn to Mark, dusting off his jacket for no reason. Just to boost his confidence, you think.
"Go do what we went out here for, and make it quick. If you don't get her number by the end of this night, I'm shaving your seagull eyebrows in your sleep. Got it?"
Mark chuckles at your empty threat, he knows you only said that to not make him nervous and it works everytime.
"Yes ma'am. For you, I'll be a taken man by the end of this month"
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves, you're hot but not that hot. Okay now go before they hand me another shot" then you're pushing him towards the direction of the backyard door.
Meanwhile, Haechan and Jeno watch the two of you like it's a live action drama happening infront of them where the two lead characters are bestfriends who swore they don't feel anything for eacth other only to end up together in the end.
"What the fuck was that?" Haechan ask after Mark walks off, turning to face the two boys
"What?"
"The sexual tension was killing me, you swear you two haven't kissed?" he asks back, you shake your head as an answer "No, we haven't and will never"
"I get that you guys are just bestfriends and swear it's nothing more than that, but did you just call him hot?" Jeno ask you
"Yes, I have eyes. I call them as I see them"
"And you say you're not into him?"
"Do I look like I'm into him?"
"Yes" they answer at the same time, shaking your head at them
"It's not like that, I already told you that. I've known Mark since we were kids. That's the same kid who looked like a chipmunk with glasses" you tell them
"More reason why you like him! You've him at his worst, not sure about his best but you're the one who's been there for him. It's the perfect plot for the most cliché love story" Haechan says dramatically
"I'm afraid this book is not how it ends, can you just pass me another shot"
That night ended in different ways, for starters you got so drunk you forgot how you got home. All you can remember was Haechan daring you to jump on the trampoline and do a back flip, you can't remember if you did it or not.
Mark's night however wasn't as exciting, yes he did get to talk to Aeri but nothing more than a few words. Not enough for her to peak interest in him, there was a bunch of other people with them so he couldn't exactly just talk to her and he didn't want to ruin the fun. So instead he found himself walking back ready to admit his defeat to you and accept his fate of having his eyebrows shaved only to find you on the grass laughing your ass off.
Turns out Haechan dared you to do a backflip but Jeno still had some of his common sense and tried to stop you, and by that he meant tackling you off the trampoline and down on the ground.
Mark helps you up from the ground, dusting your clothes to rid of the grass. Holding you by the arm while you sway on your feet clearly intoxicated.
"You're done for the night, no more leaving you alone with them" he tells you as if he was scolding a child
"Boo, you're no fun. Just say you're jealous" Haechan tells him, poking Mark's back
"Shush, don't tease him. Angry Mark is scary" you whisper shout, oh yess you're definitely drunk
"Let's get the three of you home, Jeno drag Haechan please"
And that's how it ended. Mark dropped the two boys first before he drove you back at your dorm.
"So how did it go?" you spoke all of a sudden, fighting the sleepiness off to do your duty as the nosy bestfriend
"Good"
"You didn't get her number did you?"
"Nope"
It wasn't the last time Mark dragged you somewhere in hopes of finally talking to Aeri. And all the other attempts always end up a fail like the universe just doesn't want him to succeed.
He also has become a regular at the library where you spend most of your time when you're not with him. He may have heard that Aeri comes here sometimes so why not give it a shot. He prefers studying in his own room where he can blast music, while you prefer the quiet atmosphere here.
"It helps me focus" you tell him when he asked you why you liked studying here when you can just do it at the comfort of your own dorm or his.
"I'm going home for the weekend, by the way. Want to come?" Mark ask you, remembering his mom asking him to ask you.
"And you tell me only now when it's Saturday tomorrow?" you ask back
"I'll pick you up at 3am?"
"Minhyung, I'm going to kill you" that's a yes. He just smiles and give your cheek a pinch then turning his attention back to his laptop, since he's already might as well get some work done.
Like he said, he did show up at your doorstep at 3am. Handing him your bag for the weekend, eyes half closed face bare.
"Make this weekend worth my while, Min or I will seriously shave your brows this time" you threaten him
"Yea yea, I'll get you your favorite cookies back home"
While most people will stay up with the driver on a long trip, you where back to dreamland a few minutes after Mark drove off. He passed a hoodie and a blanket over to you and the next second you were out.
Instead of waking you up, Mark just turns on the music loud enough to keep him awake but low enough not to disturb your sleep. But really it doesn't matter, he can be playing Bohemian Rhapsody on full volume you'll still sleep through it.
When the of you arrived at Mark's childhood home, his mom was already waiting by the door. Her smile doubling as she sees you exiting the passenger side, "Y/N! I'm so glad you made it!" she says with open arms. You walk over to give her a hug.
She's like a mom to you, whenever your parent's went on holidays or work trips they would always leave you with Mark's parents. The two of you weren't kidding when you say you spent a lot of your childhood together.
"You two must be tired from the drive, why don't you eat breakfast then rest for a bit?" she tells you, when Mark walks towards the door his mom hugs him too.
"Sounds good, thank you"
"I made your favorite cookies by the way, Mark made sure I didn't forget" she tells you with a smile, "Really?" you asked excitedly, and Mark thinks it was worth bugging his mom over the phone last night.
It was a great way to detox from all the stress from university, the rest of the weekend you relaxed as much as you can. Slept in without a worry about anything, you only wish this weekend lasted longer.
"Mom, you need to let us go. We won't make it in time" Mark tells his mom who is too busy smothering him, you jsut smile at the mother-son interaction happening infront of you.
"You two have a safe drive back" his dad says, giving Mark a quick hug too.
"Don't be a stranger, I'll tell your parents you rested well this weekend" Mark's mom tells you, you thank her again before giving her one last hug and saying bye to his dad too.
"Can we just not go back to school?"
"We can, but then what would we do? and I can't leave the plants to Haechan, they will die" Mark says, that made you laugh
"Why though? something bothering you?" he adds
"Nothing, I just had fun this weekend. I haven't slept that good since I moved in my dorm" you tell him
"You're still having trouble with sleeping? I told you just call me, I can bore you to sleep"
"I'm sure but I'm not going to call you every night when I can't sleep"
"Nonsense, I already sleep late anyways"
You didn't mean to let your mind wander but for the first time ever in your history of friendship with Mark, you let your mind think would it be different if he wasn't just your friend. Haechan and Jeno's words echoing inside your head.
Mark's words just then made you think about it but then you shook those thoughts away quickly as they came.
“Wait hold up, you two talk about that?”
“You haven’t?”
Haechan looks at you with disbelief, silently asking if you were being serious
"Yo Jeno! If i get bitten by a snake on my dong will you suck the venom out?" Haechan asks Jeno who just arrived. You're currently over at Haechan and Mark's place since you had to finish a project you were doing with Haechan, Jeno is just a regular visitor here.
"What the fuck? No" Jeno answered, confused with the context of his friend's question
"But like, it's an emergency" you say
"Still no, I'm sorry but you're dying my friend" Jeno tells Haechan
"Who's dying?" Mark asks, finally getting home from his last class. He knew you were here hence why he choose to order food on his way home.
"Jeno" you and Haechan answered at the same time
"Would you do it for him?" you weren't looking at Jeno so you didn't check if he was asking you or Haechan
"No..."
"I mean"
Jeno looks back and forth between you and Haechan, Mark is in the kitchen unboxing the food he got for the group.
"Y/N!? Is this what you two were talking about?" Jeno ask the two of you
"Talk about what?" Mark curiously asks, walking back to the living where the three of you were. Putting the chicken and pizza on the coffee table before taking a seat on the floor beside your legs.
"If you get bitten by a snake on your-"
"I'd rather not talk about it infront of your dinner, thank you very much" Haechan cuts you off
"I'd rather not have that image in my head" Jeno adds
"What?" Mark asks, you just shake your head and take the slice of pizza he just took a bit of
"Nothing, let's just say you're the only one not dying here" you answer him.
You and Haechan finished late. Before you go back to your dorm, you checked on Mark to see him also busy with something. Sitting hunched back on his desk,
"Your back will hurt, stop slouching" you tell him, walking towards where he was sitting
"You sound like me when I scold Haechan. You two done?" he ask, looking up at you
"Mhm, I should go it's late" it's past midnight already. Jeno went home after dinner while you and Haechan worked on your project. Mark was waiting for you finish so he can drive you back, when he thinks of something
"Why don't you just stay here for the night?" he asks you
"Huh?"
"Stay for the night, it's late and you probably will have hard time sleeping once you get home. You can borrow my clothes" he says, already walking towards his closet to grab you a pair of shirt and sweats for the night
"Do I have any say in this?" you ask
"Just say yes, Y/N. It's late, you're tired but you'll probably stay up all night if you go home now. If you stay here I can make sure you're going to get some sleep" Mark tell you, then hands you his shirt and sweats.
"Go change, I'll sleep on the couch"
When you got back from the bathroom now changed in Mark's clothes, he's still slumped over his desk. "You should call it a night, too. I can take the couch"
He turns his chair around to face you, shaking his head "Nonsense, go sleep I'll be done in like 5 minutes"
"Then just sleep here, there's enough room for the two of us. This is not the ending of titanic"
He chuckles at your statement, watching you get cozy under his covers. This made him want to call it a night and cuddle in with you, that very thought confused him in different ways.
One, it confused him how thinking about cuddling you seemed so natural. And two, it confused him how it wasn't weird at all. To him atleast.
He shoots you quick smile before turning back to his table to finish his work. More than five minutes passed when he finally finished, turning of his laptop and desk lamp before turning to check on you only to see you quietly scrolling on your phone.
"What did I say? Go to sleep, dummy"
"Was waiting for you, c'mere" you say while opening the blanket for him. He didn't even say no, he didn't say anything. It's like his body was on auto-pilot. Like you're the one in control. He didn't mind it one bit.
Mark turns off the lights first before settling beside you, he lays his head on the pillow beside yours. You send him a sleepy smile, mirroring your actions.
"You need to go to sleep, missy"
"I'm trying, believe me"
"What usually helps you sleep at night?" he ask, both of you were whispering even though no one would hear you in his room. It was past midnight, the only light coming from the lamppost outside his window.
"I cuddle something, usually my favorite pillow" you mumble, you'd be embarrassed to admit you still need to hug something when you go to sleep but you're talking to Mark. You didn't mind showing and telling him everything about you because you know he'd stay after everything.
"Cuddle me" he say without missing a beat. And for a couple of seconds the two of you just stare at each other, waiting for something. Maybe for the other person to say something.
"Uh I mean I don't want you to be uncomfortable, my head's a bit heavy" you tell but he just chuckles back at you, opening his arms as if inviting you to come to him if you wanted.
"My head's bigger than yours, come on. Your eyes are about to close, why are you fighting it"
"I'm not, it's my mind that won't shut up"
"Then don't think, just listen to me. I'll keep on talking or humming or something until you fall asleep" this time he pulls on your arm, making you move from one side of his bed over to him. Leaving you no choice but rest your head on his chest. His heart drumming under your ears, like your personal white noise machine.
"You're warm" you mumble, cuddling against his chest more because he feels warm. You've never cuddled like this before, why haven't you cuddled like this before?
Oh right, because friends don't do things like this. Once again, Haecha and Jeno's word bounce around your head. Making you question your feelings for your bestfriend.
"Can you relax? I can tell you're still thinking about something, just... listen to my breathing or something" he tells you, this time you feel his hand run through your hair making you more sleepy.
And you listen, listen to him. Listen to his heart. The loud thoughts in your head now just mere background noise. All forgotten.
"I'm going to tell you something, but you're not allowed to tell me I told you so"
Jeno looks back at you confused. You popped out of nowhere, now taking the vacant seat in front of him.
"Uh okay"
"And you can't tell Haechan or Mark. Swear it" you tell him
"Okay, I swear. Are we scheming them or what?"
You opened your mouth to speak, repeating the action one two three times but the words can't seem to come out.
"I can't say it"
"Why? Did you run overe someone? Did you forget to water Mark's plants?" he ask again
"No, I didn't. It's not like that. I can't say it because I can't believe it myself and maybe it's not even real. Maybe I'm just confused or something. Maybe I'm sick, yeah I think I'm sick. Am I sick?" you ask him, pulling his hand to lay it on your forehead
"No, but you are starting to scare me."
"I'm starting to scare myself too!"
"Why???"
"Because I think I'm in love with my bestfriend"
That got the two of you quiet. You can't believe you just said that out loud, and now that it's out in the world you can't believe you might be inlove with your bestfriend, Mark. The guy you've known your whole life. The same guy you swore you will never see as someone who's more than a friend.
Jeno was also caught by surprise, he did expect it to happen at some point but he thought it would be Mark realizing it first before you. And he didn't think he'd be the first one to know. Now he has to hide this from Mark and worse, Haechan.
"There you two are, I was looking for you! I have some great news" Mark says, surprising you and Jeno. Sending him a look which he understood.
"What?" you ask, turning to look at Mark who's now sitting beside you.
"I finally got Aeri's number, and get this we're going out this Friday night" he says with the biggest smile on his face.
You didn't even hesitate, immediately shooting his a smile back. "No way, you finally grew the balls to do it. Who would've thought" you joke
"What did I say, I'll be cuffed down before this month ends. Now I just need your help to think about where I should take her, dude are you okay?" he asks Jeno, notiching the guy has not said a word since he arrived.
Mark wonders if he interrupted something, you did look like you were in the middle of a serious talk. You tried to cover it but he did notice the look on your face when he arrived. He didn't want to push it right now, leaving a mental note to ask you about it later instead.
"Me? Yeah totally. I just remember about this thing I forgot back at the library. I should go there and get it before someone else takes it"
"I'll go too, I need this book for my next exam" you say, already slinging your bag on your shoulder. Standing up from your seat.
"I'll see you later, bye" you tell Mark quickly before stalking away, leaving a confused Mark behind. He turns to the other guy also watching your retreating figure.
"Did something happen?" he ask Jeno, "Huh? No, I don't know. I'm gonna go. Bye hyung" Jeno smiles at him before waving goodbye, walking the same direction you went to.
That was the last time Mark saw you, after that you kind of went into hiding. Always coming up with an excuse to not see him: whether you're busy with another project, you're sick at home, you're on your period and too tired to leave your dorm. At this point you're running out of minor injuries to use as an excuse.
Friday came and went, you didn't have the strength to call him and ask him about the date. You really can't invest in his love life when you're having trouble with yours. Well technically yours is one sided.
You just got back from the cafe you found jus tthis week in your attempt to spend less time on campus since you know you're most likely to bump into Mark there. So instead you found a quaint cafe outside campus and made it your new study place. What you didn't expect though was to find your bestfriend standing outside your dorm room.
Mark heard footsteps coming down the hallway, looking up from his phone to see you standing on the other end. It's been almost 2 weeks since he last talked to you, apart from the few texts he received from you this has been the longest time he's been away from you.
"Hey, were you out?" he ask when you got to him
"Yeah, I was studying"
"I was at the library. but I couldn't find you" he tells you, right off the bat he could tell something was wrong. You won't even look him in the eye right now.
"I was studying some place else"
"Oh okay, is something wrong? Are you okay?" he ask again, now he's worried.
"Me? Yea no I'm fine. Just busy and tired" now that you mention it, he notices the dark circles under your eyes. You're still beautiful despite that, but he could tell you haven't had proper sleep probably a couple of days now.
"Have you been sleeping okay?"
"I'm good, why'd you ask?"
"Nothing, I'm just worried. You just said the other day you had a massive headache, you should get some rest. Did you eat dinner already? I can go grab some for us before you call it a night" he suggest, ready to run down the nearest restaurant but you shake your head at him
"I already ate, I think I'll just call it a night. I'm tired. I'll call you later" you tell him, opening the door to your dorm. Waving goodbye to him before closing it, leaving a very worried Mark on the other side.
Something is definitely up with you and he's not going to rest tonight until he figures it out. The last person he saw you with was Jeno, so he texts the younger guy asking his whereabouts. It turns out Jeno is over at his and Haechan's place.
He made his way back home, seeking for answers. When he got there, he calls for Jeno.
"What's up?" Jeno asks
"What happened between you and Y/N?"
"Huh?" Jeno asks back, confused. Meanwhile Haechan pauses the game him and Jeno were playing to join the conversation
"Did something happened?" Haechan asks
"Yea well the last time I saw her she was talking to Jeno, you two looked like you were having a serious conversation then she walks off. Then after that she's been avoiding me" Mark explains, arms flailing around. Clearly frustrated with the situation.
"Why did you say she's avoiding you? Maybe she's just busy?" Haechan asks again, "We took the CSAT's at the same time, believe me even if she's that busy she's not going to avoid me like this"
"And you're assuming that based off of that?"
"I just know something's wrong okay?! I just don't know what it is" Mark frustratedly says, voice rising a bit. Meanwhile Jeno stays quiet. He promised to keep quiet so that's what he's doing.
Haechan looks over at him, immediately he could tell Jeno knows something
"Speak, I can tell you're hiding something" Haechan tells him, Jeno just shakes his head
"Dude, what?? So you know something?" Mark says
"I promised not to tell, especially the two of you" Jeno finally speaks, "So she did say something??" Mark prods even further
"I can't say it, I swore to Y/N I won't"
"What can't you say to me and Mark hyung? Haechan's the one to ask this time, making the pieces fit together in his head. And when it did, it's like a light bulb turned on in his head.
"OH MY GOD!" Haechan says catching both boys' attention
"Haechan no!" Jeno says
"What what??" Maark says
Haechan looks back and forth between the two guys, then stopping at Mark. "I don't know either but I think I do"
"Then tell me!!!!"
"No! Because if what I think is right then you would want to hear this from Y/N" Haechan says, Jeno lets out the breath he was holding.
Mark couldn't wait another day to talk to you, even though he promised he'd let you rest first he can't just sleep tonight without knowing.
That's how he found himself standing outside your door again, ringing the doorbell thrice like he always would. When you opened the door, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes.
"Mark? Is everything okay?" you ask, confused why he'd be out here this time of the night
"Sorry for waking you up but I just can't sleep tonight knowing something's not right with us. Are we okay?" he ask you.
This was enough to fully wake you, opening the door for him fully to let him in. You wait until you're inside before you face him again,
"I just needed some time off, I guess" you tell him
"Why?"
"Well, you said you had a date with Aeri. I didn't want to get in between that, you can't be spending that much time with me once you get a girlfriend. I'm not going to be that kind of bestfriend, Mark"
Your explanation although very valid, did not make any sense to him. Because now when you say things like him getting a girlfriend, he don't see Aeri beside him or any other girl.
The only person he can picture beside him is you. The only person he wants to spend all his time with is you. The one he wants to take out on dates is you. When he went out on that date with Aeri, he did have a great time but the two of them thought they're better off as friends. He just never had the chance to tell you because you've been avoiding him.
"Well you don't have to worry about that, I'm not going out with Aeri"
"What?? why?? But you like her"
Now you feel guilty, wondering what could've went wrong and if you had something to do with it.
"I thought I did. I mean I like her, but only as a friend. Turns out we're better as buddies" he lets out a chuckle, watching your confused reaction
"You're still my bestfriend though, so will you tell me what's wrong?" he asks, taking careful steps towards you until he's an arm length away
"Like I said I didn't want to intrude"
"I don't think that's just it. Jeno said-"
"Jeno said what??? Oh my god I'm going to kill him"
He just smiles at you, this is the first time you said more that a few words to thim and the first time you sounded like the usual you.
"Actually he didn't say anything, then Haechan somehow figured it out and say I should hear it from you instead" he looks at you, observing your face. Committing every detail he's been looking at for years. This time with more adoration and love in his eyes.
"What's wrong with you?" you ask, noticing the way he's looking at you.
"Nothing, just thinking about something completely stupid" it's not stupid. He was thinking about all this time he didn't any other girl, he always have liked you but too scared to say something about it. So instead he searched for something similar.
But of course no one could even come close. There's after all, only one of you for him.
"What?"
"You tell me first what Haechan and Jeno know then I'll tell you"
Now that he's the one asking, you're not sure how to get out of this one. He got you cornered with no place to go.
"I'll tell you but you have to promise me if it ever gets awkward after this you'll still be my bestfriend" you tell him,
"Of course"
Instead of telling him in words, it's like a higher power possessed you. Standing on your tiptoe, resting both hands on his shoulder. Pressing your lips flat against his.
You can tell just how shocked he was, frozen in his place. Your blood runs cold thinking you just ruined your friendship forever but then you feel his arms snake around your waist pulling you closer towards him. Mark tilts his head a bit to the side, deepening the kiss. Smiling against your lips, he can taste the strawberry flavored chapstick you always use.
This should feel weird and foreign to the both of you, but no. This moment feels so right. Being in each other's arms makes so much sense, like this was how it should've been all along.
Mark takes a few steps forward making you walk back until your back is against the door, still lips attached together. Eventually the two of you had to break apart to take a breath, your eyes still closed you feel him kiss your lids then your nose then he kisses you on your jaw down the side of your neck. Leaning your head on the side to give him more space because right now his lips feel so good against your skin you just wanted more.
He gives you a few more kisses before leaning away to look at you with that lovestruck look on his face.
"I know this might seem a bit too fast but a decade worth of memory with you seems enough, can I be your boyfriend?"
This time you kiss him again, shorter this time though so you can give him your answer "Of course, who else would I make more memories with. Plus I love your mom too much"
Mark smiles at your words, finally finally all the pieces fall into place. Finally he got the girl.
