Orpheus… Yes, that was a name she was vaguely familiar with. Emily used to enjoy reading in her youth, but ever since becoming a doctor, she hasn’t had any time to read for fun. Her work was too demanding. Even so, she had heard about the rising author simply from overlapping conversations and news articles. Odd… What was someone like him doing here? If he was growing in fame, what could he possibly want from coming to this manor.??
Emily was about to speak, ready to exchange polite greetings, but froze when he continued. Nothing that he said was wrong, nor overly suspicious. He was correct in his commentary. All doctors were the same in this sense, having the lives of their patients in their hands. Even so, it made Emily terribly uneasy. There was no way he could know… Her mind was simply playing tricks on her. That had to be the case. He could be talking about any doctor with his choice of words...but the fear of someone knowing about her past still ate away at her inside.
“… You’re right. Doctors must be careful. The survival of their patients depends on their choices, after all.” Although her expression was straight and relatively calm, she could feel her heart rate accelerating. This was nothing to be worried about… It’s impossible that he knew the truth… That was what she tried to tell herself anyway. “I appreciate your kind words… I simply want to help people. That’s all.” That’s all she ever wanted, and look where it got her. “I’ve heard that your stories are quite popular as of late. Where do you find your inspiration?”
