nico’s full name is nicodemo ranieri di angelo           nicodemo : italian form of the name nikodemos, “victory of the people”           ranieri : “warrior of judgment” / “mighty army”           di angelo : “from the angel”  he started going by nico after he came to the states. hades is the only one that knows that’s his full name, and nico hates it. if anyone asks, nico is his full name. that’s it, nothing else. and good luck finding his birth certificate at this point.

it’s very important to me that people know what nico sounds like when speaking italian vs speaking english because he dOES have an accent when he speaks in english even though he’s been living in the states for however many years, it’s not quite as pronounced as it used to be but it’s still very distinct when he speaks.

HEADCANON ; NICO’S DEMIGOD ABILITIES

what they are, what they look like when nico uses them, and just generally fun factoids about nico when he’s using his powers. keep in mind these are pretty much entirely headcanon-based, and not rooted in canon other than the fact that nico has these abilities in the books as listed by name. they’re on his wiki page. that’s basically where canon stops here; if it’s canon, i’ll say it’s from canon. otherwise it’s me making shit up.

BOOM I FUCKIN FIGURED IT OUT

because of the war, nico stopped going to school in about 1941-ish, when he was around seven or eight years old. that would’ve put him in year two in the italian school system ( i think. ). when he comes over to the USA, he’s homeschooled for awhile ( aka until the end of the war ) because maria is really protective of her kids and doesn’t want to put them at risk by sending them off on their own in a country that isn’t hugely fond of them. sO when nico actually ends up going back to school ( 2006 ), even though he’s around eleven at the time, they plop him in third grade because it just says he completed “year two” of his education and no one actually cares enough to go look ( which is good actually tbh since all his school records are from the 30s ). THEREFORE, when grover finds bianca and nico, nico is starting up fourth grade. fourth graders are 9-10 years old, which is why grover assumes nico is ten, when nico is, in fact, twelve at the time. watch me jump through plot holes like a dolphin.
