After they had all finished the cookies and tea…they realized how late it was starting to become already and sadly they had to start to pack things up and head inside. Even though the fun was over…Nui still couldn’t help but smile and feel a strong feeling of happiness bloom in her chest. Her…new friends…just saying the word “Friends” made her happy…but talking to them and spending all this time together made her feel happier than anything else in this world…even her dolls never made her this happy.
She wasn’t fully sure why, but she tended to visit Hiro ever since that day they all spent outside…when it was asked why, the only reason she could conjure up was that they both promised to be each other’s friend…they had promised and even though she knew by time it would annoy him…she wanted to be with her friend as much as she possibly could. He never really seemed to mind it as much as she thought it would…which just added on to how happy she felt.
But of course, the happiness couldn’t last forever. She knew it wouldn’t…but it ended so much sooner than she had thought it would. They were threatened, told to kill each other or else…well she…she didn’t even want to think about it…All she knew was that someone was going to die…someone was going to die and she had to make sure none of her friends did…it couldn’t be too late…it couldn’t…she couldn’t let it happen.
A note was slipped under Hiro’s door…it was easy for Nui to do so since they were closely roomed…but she made sure they met in her room. The only thing she could do to wait was sit on her bed and pray he still trusted, her, even after everything that happened lately. A knock summoned her out of her trance and she rushed to the door and let Hiro in without a single word.
She motioned towards her bed, asking for him to sit down so they could talk. As she sat, she went over to her desk to pull over two things: A syringe and the plush lion she had gotten the day of the tea party. “…D…d-did you…b-bring…your p-plushie…t-too…?” Hoping he wouldn’t be too nervous after she had pulled out the syringe…so she tried her best to smile and reassure him that everything would be alright. When he nodded and took out the rabbit, she approached him…carrying the syringe with her. “D-don’t w-w-worry…please….i-it’ll b-be alright…o-o-okay…?”
She placed the syringe in his hand, smiling as calmly as she could. “…Mister…n-no I mean…Hiro…p-please d-do me this favour…k…kill m-me using this…p-please…p-p-please don’t s-say no…” She could feel him try to let the syringe drop, but she wouldn’t let him…she gripped his hands as tightly as she possibly could knowing her strength. “P-please Hiro…I…I w-w-won’t suffer a-anymore…a-and you c-can go f-far from here…o-oh please d-do this…f-for me…”
Still, he resisted…and she realized she had no other choice. Grabbing his wrist, she lifted his arms and aligned them towards her neck…and then began to thrust the syringe into her neck, fighting with him to make him push down on the end and release the medicine into her. They fought for a bit and for most of it, it almost seemed like it would be a losing battle on Nui’s part…until he finally got her to let go of his hands and threw her farther from him so she couldn’t grab onto him again…the end of the needle slamming into the wall and letting all of the medication flow into her.
With a smile, she fell to the ground…not dead yet. She could hear crying above her, but everything was already getting blurry with how much medicine she had loaded the syringe with. She tried her best to reach out towards Hiro, knowing he was still here.
"H-Hiro…? P-p-please d-d-don’t cry…n-now you c-c-can live…a-and I w-won’t have t-to…suffer r-right…? I…I w-was a goner e-ever since I w-w-was a baby a-anyway…s-so it’s b-better that it e-e-ends like this…b-by a friend…y…you did p-promise to be my f-friend…right…? P-please k-k-keep that promise…alright…? T…thank you s-so much, Hiro…a-and please…t-take m-my lion a-and Kimiwarui…a-a-and take care of them…w-when you get out…just…p-please s-s-stop crying now…"
She giggled one final time…until she closed her eyes and stopped breathing. She wasn’t sure if Hiro would listen to her or not but…she would either get to watch him escape or see him again…either way, she knew her friend would be happy.
