Thoughts
Back when I was still in elementary school to junior high age, around 10-12, I remember shopping with my mom. I remember waiting on line for the bus with my mom and there were plenty of seats. We chose some seats in the front so we could see where we were headed - trying to not get lost.
Sometime around the 2nd stop since we got on, a white lady came on the bus. I remember seeing her tall, heels just clicking as she got stepped closer to us. I remember her voice telling us to “go to the back of the bus” and that “them asians don’t know how to respect others”
In my young mind, I was hurt, angry, annoyed. But I also remember being scared. Scared that it would happen more - and despite this incident not happening a lot, just one can spark so much fear into a child.
Many years later, and as I grew older, I realized that racism would always be upon us. However, we can be that change. And I really do believe change is coming.
However, these past few days after the election has proven to me wrong - yet a bit right because love will always prevail - no matter how little there is. And I hope that love will always trump <s> hate</s>.
That aside, this post was partially triggered by a book that’s set in the 20s - and there was so much hate. </3.
