Last night I found some old copies of issue number one. In July of 1996 I printed the first issue of Reviewer Magazine. It was 32 pages, all black and white, letter sized on newsprint, 32 lb rag if I recall. I'd never taken a class in this but did all the layout myself with glue stick, scissors and double-sided Scotch tape on Bristol board, and I used my electric typewriter for the typesetting. I wish I remembered right now who it was who helped me with the cover layout -- the picture is a photo I took of a local college girl I knew socially. I didn't have a computer and had no idea at the time how to use Photoshop. 10,000 copies were printed because someone I knew at the local Kinkos on Garnet Avenue told me I wouldn't save much money if I went for a small press run. Although a cover price was listed I delivered it personally to drops spots in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County and distributed for free.
