NEWh3re is almost here!

Please join us for NEWh3re (pronounced “Anywhere Three!”), June 10-12, 2022, with Guests of Honor Astrisoni (Nate Wulver and Heather Estelme).

Gary stalks the stages and filk rooms of Northeast cons, singing of space flight, lunar colonies and hyperspace hotels. Gary was inducted into the Filk Hall of Fame in 2012.

Since the only other place currently to find my music is a few filk convention and Worldcon compilations, and I have no idea when I’ll get around to finishing a studio album, I’ve done the next best thing and created a Bandcamp page! Currently up are a couple of selections from my recent FilKONtari-NO and NEWhere performances.

NEWhere Too - A Message From the Con Chair

Greetings all!  With June busting out all over, I am pleased to announce our slate of talented performers! (Please note that the schedule is still subject to change.)

Our Guest of Honor concert, of course, will feature the fabulous Dave Weingart.

Other anticipated performers include Morva Bowman and Alan Pollard, Kathy Sands, Bob Leigh and Mabel Liang, Amy Fass, Ellen Kranzer, Daphne Arthur, Deborah and Basil, Zorikh Lequidre, Piers Cawley, Michael McAfee and Robert Rosenfeld.

PLUS Bring Your Own Ice Cream Social on Friday, “What I Discovered During the Pandemic” on Sunday, virtual con suite every day at noon, and lots and lots of open filk!

NEWhere 2020 schedule plans

With less than a month to go until NEWhere, NEFilk’s 2020 virtual convention (July 3-5, 2020), it’s time to give you all a glimpse of what’s in store for the weekend! Yes, Gary @gorgeousgary Ehrlich is still our Guest of Honor, but that’s just part of what you can expect to see.

What’s In Store for NEWhere 2020 (Part 1)

Over the three days of NEWhere (July 3 - 5, 2020), there’ll be some special events -- but we’ll be talking about those later. For now, let’s look at what you can expect to see every day of the convention:

Virtual con suite Morning to early afternoon on all three days of the con, a set of moderated Zoom breakout rooms for hanging out and catching up with your filk friends -- or, if you’re new to the scene, meeting and making new friends!

Virtual filk circles Evening to late night on all three days of the con. Hang out with fellow filkers (and their intermittent housepets), and take turns to sing, sing, sing! (Yes, you can sing along at home too, even if your mike is muted.)

Afternoon Short Sets Twenty-minute concert sets -- sit down and watch, or listen while puttering around the house! We have an amazing lineup of performers scheduled over the three days of the convention, including Marc Glasser, Joe Kesselman, Harold Feld, Roberta Rogow, Bob & Sue Esty, Heather Borean, John McDaid, Ben Newman, Joshua Kronengold & Lisa Padol, and more!

What’s In Store for NEWhere 2020 (Part 2)

Now that you know about the daily features of NEWhere (July 3 - 5, 2020), let’s talk about a few of the special events waiting for us that weekend:

NEFilk At 30 Join us late afternoon / early evening on Friday, for an open storytelling circle to reminisce about thirty years of the Oldest Established Permanent Floating Filk Con on the Coast! Bring your favorite NEFilk memories and take turns sharing them with the crowd.

Guest of Honor concert Tune in late Saturday afternoon for an hour of music and merriment from our very own “Gorgeous Gary” Ehrlich!

Unknown Is Unending: A Tribute to Abby Cinii Earlier this year, New York and the wider Northeast filk fandom lost one of its mainstays in Ariel “Abby” Cinii. Join us for a memorial concert, where many of her friends and fellow filkers will be performing her songs in celebration of her life.

Camp N.E. Filk Singalong with Filthy Pierre Because who doesn’t like a good singalong? This event will be led by Erwin “Filthy Pierre” Strauss on keyboard, with a lyrics slideshow on a shared screen so everyone can join in.

This year online -- next year in person!

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, NEFilk is regretfully altering our original plans to hold a relaxacon in July 2020. Instead, we intend to hold an online event July 3-5, 2020 as part of the ongoing Festival of Living Rooms, and (with the agreement of our hotel) the in-person NEFilk Relaxacon has been rescheduled to June 18-20, 2021.
