In the movies, there was a procedure to these sorts of things, as if an itemized list and proper application was expected of every individual who contacted an assassination organization. Perhaps that was true when assassins were in short supply, or highly-prized, but when they were as disposable as used tissue paper, the red tape of bureaucracy was easily cut. Time frame, weapon of choice, location, number of targets... All of these, and more, were negotiable, so long as the Holy Salvation Society was properly paid.
That was one trope from films, a shadowy organization without morals or obligations. Another was the killer who would forsake their mark due to some familial bond, or moment of mercy. That was another invention. Maki knew better than to question the orders set in front of her. If someone were to be executed at the hand of the Society, and Maki was selected to carry out that execution, then there was nothing she could do but comply to the best of her ability. She had killed religious leaders, peaceful ambassadors, single mothers, even children. The first kill she’d made had been her own conscience. There was no sense caring or worrying for the people who she killed.
Still, there was something about her most recent request that gave her pause. Though she should have expected it, in light of all their talents, Maki hadn’t been prepared to receive a contract on one of her own peers at Hope’s Peak. Sonia Nevermind, the Ultimate Princess of Novoselic, was to be killed before before graduating and returning to her home country. Maki had scowled upon receiving the contract, and scowled again thinking of it.
Yet, still, she waited outside of class 77-B at the end of the day, waiting until the blonde-haired girl exited the classroom. She had time. While it would have been simpler to just kill her as soon as possible, there was no point rushing it. Assassinating an heir to a throne would be her highest-profile killing yet, and properly assessing and analyzing the situation and her target would make for the cleanest kill.
“Sonia-san, got a minute?”
