Just the other day in class (ok this happened over a week ago, but still cool) there was a guy from Norway and a girl from Sweden talking to each other. The girl was speaking Swedish and the guy, Norwegian, but they could understand each other totally fine because the languages are so similar. I would imagine it would be weird listening to another language and responding in your own, but if it works, it works!
As well, I finished my last Negotiation Management class today and it was awesome! The instructor is British but usually teaches at ESADE in Barcelona. We did a ton of practical exercises negotiating with each other, which was definitely my favourite part of the course because it really helped me understand the material. Initially I always felt like the other person was lying or grossly exaggerating what they could or could not do.. but after those exercises we got to look at what the opposing side needed, and it's crazy to see how DIFFERENT the two sides' needs can be. Sometimes it's true - you need to sell 3000 guitars in the first order, and I can only buy 1550. It's not exaggeration or being unreasonable - it's business and there are constraints!
Although I guess lying can be part of it... Jeff and I were negotiating today and he was the agent in charge of an "18 year old superstar striker from Senegal" and I was a Manchester United person looking to close the deal to have "Mustapha" play for the team. Jeff made all these demands like how Mustapha wanted 2 penthouses; 1 with 10 bedrooms and another one in Santorini with 8 bedrooms.. he wanted a timeshare somewhere else.. 4 cars (Porsche, Ferrari, Rolls Royce, Land Rover)... first class tickets for all 8 of his family members back in Senegal to attend every football match... it was ridiculous! And I fell for everything because I had no idea what was a legitimate demand and what he made up :( Even after all the concessions I wrung out of him, I think he still got the better end of the deal because he made up random demands that he didn't even want/need.
Gosh I don't even know if those last two paragraphs made ANY sense to anyone but me, haha!
