Dominican Republic 2015. I walked everywhere. As a child our summer days would be walking from our apt on the Grand Concourses near Fordham Road to Hoe Ave to see our Aunts, Uncles and Godmother. It was our ritual - my mother and father with four children in tow. Eventually as the years moved along it became three then two and one and then just my parents making that trek. I grew up walking so when I visited DR my normal was let’s get a map we are here I wanna get there-doesn’t seem that far from the hotel. I was staying in the capital without family for the first time. And as we walked in the scorching sun I’d hear the bus drivers yelling as they traveled their course “¡¡¡te vas a poner negra!!!!!” And all I would say “ojalá que si, mas negra más mejor.” #dominicanslovehaitians #blackdollproject #negrasoy

Irmãs não é por nada não, mas qual o problema dessa gente que insiste em chamar mulheres negras de morenas ou pior, moreninhas? Olha, pra quem não sabe morenas são mulheres brancas de cabelo preto, mulheres negras são...negras, só isso N E G R A S , não doi falar. Tenho conhecimento que existem pessoas que se encomodam em serem chamadas ou se declararem negras (quando não convém) . Mas irmã, você é negra e ponto final, a não ser que você seja branca de cabelo preto, ai sim tu é morena. Não quero ferir ninguém apenas precisava falar dessa nossa realidade.
