Lately I’ve had to remind her that she has beautiful chocolate skin, and that’s what makes her special. I surprised her when we picked her up from school today with a new doll and dress. It took us a long time to process this email when we received it. We had to read the words several times before we could comprehend the message. And to be honest we still don’t know what to make of it. Do we feel anything? Apathetic? Not really sure. We keep looking at the words bitches referencing children and it’s offensive. Painful to believe children don’t need dolls. We hear so many stories of how dolls enriched people’s live. And when we hand delivered them it was a moment of elation, joy and sadness that we didn’t have enough for everyone. There is truth people need to eat. But joy is just as important! Imagination can provide food on your table.
