here goes, I suppose. These are the bigger stuff, not like the previous headcanon posts I’ve done and I’d appreciate it if I didn’t get any backlash for these
- okay, this one’s not anything controversial, I think. I’ve always headcanoned Nick as bisexual but with a preference for ladies. Still, he’s always been able to appreciate a fine ass, no matter who it belongs to
- I think Coach has a kid, a teenage son probably, and a wife that got killed in the beginning of the apocalypse. Nothing about turning or anything, just plain eaten or mauled or ripped apart, and Coach got his son into an evac chopper but there was no room for him and he said he’d be right behind. And fyi, I kinda base this on some of his deleted in-game commentary about having lost enough to the apocalypse/not wanting to lose anyone else
- I feel like my mental image of Ellis is a lot more mature than that of most people here. Maybe it’s just that I’m really close to his age and I’ve had people talking to me like I’m stupid just ‘cause I’m pretty much happy 24/7. At any case, I feel like he’s able to switch from happy-go-lucky to serious if the situation calls for it, but he likes to stick to his sunny attitude. Like, getting kicks off of small things doesn’t necessarily make him childish or immature and even acting like a kid sometimes doesn’t mean he isn’t an actual adult who can’t take stuff seriously. I feel like people overall tend to forget that Ellis is an adult.
- And similarly, I don’t think Rochelle’s nearly as motherly as some people make her out to be. Like, people usually make her do the healing stuff in fics (unless shipping calls for someone else), but in fact judging by her in-game comments she’s the one who actually has absolutely no idea how to deal with an injured person (Nick obviously knows, Coach was a health teacher so he must’ve taught some first aid at some point and Ellis does the whole “calming bedside manner talk” when helping someone up which I suspect he learned with Keith constantly getting hurt)
- And and in general people sometimes seem to forget that Rochelle isn’t actually that much older than Ellis is. They’re both in their twenties, yeah? Like, let’s not forget that Ellis isn’t the only one who wears a T-shirt with a print on it and also Nick’s not the only one who makes dry and witty remarks and jokes about stuff. Left4Dead wikia says that Ro’s the “big sister” of the group and that’s what I think she is; more of a sister figure than a mother figure. And not even that in all the cases, ‘cause some of her comments to Nick in The Passing could mean she “has at least entertained the idea of a romance with Nick” as the wikia says. I don’t really ship it, but it’s interesting to know Ro’s looked at Nick at least once and went “hot damn” (then again, who of us hasn’t?)
- And I actually think that if only one of the group was to survive, it’d be Coach
- I don’t think Ellis really cries that often. Just read a lot of fanfics that make it seem so, but I don’t really agree. I guess this goes with the actual adult thing
- I think Nick’s not actually an asshole, not through and through. Sure, there’s the gambler bravado, but I think it’s just a shell that can be shattered if you hit hard enough, and damn if the apocalypse isn’t a good punch. I should probably use that line somewhere in the future
- I dunno I just don’t think Ellis is that immature and Coach is that judgemental and Nick warms up that quickly to the others and Rochelle suddenly forgets her sense of humour
god, did I get it all out? I kinda feel like I should apologize but I’M NOT SORRY. Also reminder that these are literally all just my headcanons and how I feel about these characters and I shouldn’t probably even take it all this seriously but it’s too late and I’m in too deep already
