Anyway, I think Dayne!Ace is Lord Rodrik Harlaw's second wife (his first wife and two sons are dead)—Ace needs a marriage to secure her position of inheritance, and his eldest sister (Gwynesse) wants his throne at Ten Towers. He's an oddity among men in the Iron Islands as he likes to read—to such a degree that he's been nicknamed "Rodrik the Reader"; and Ace is a hot-blooded "Stony" Dornishwoman who is not fond of being looked down upon just because she is a woman.
I should probably actually watch or read GoT (etc.) before getting too far into this 😂
I had to look this guy up because I had NO IDEA who he was. Then I was like:
bc he's a little old (as if I'm one to talk, wanting to fuck Tywin Lannister and all that). BUT then (as you mentioned) he is a reader, which could be something you could bond over I imagine. Then he also is uncle to Asha and Theon Greyjoy, and tries to support Asha in favour of Euron taking over the Iron Isles (which we love). I can imagine Dayne!Ace marrying him as a political move, and then possibly coming to an understanding/respect for each other afterward. How a Dornishwoman finding her way to the Iron Isles though is interesting.
