Nemo slept hard that night. So hard he drifted back to Home.
Furred feet made no sound on the floor as the rabbit searched the darkness for Wally.
The little puppet sat with crossed legs in front of Home’s door. The darkness beyond the windows was bottomless, inky, the very void Nemo and the others had come through to get where they were.
Softly, head lolling to one side, the yellow puppet sang. “Moonbeam high, be my guide, help me find the sun again,” Wally’s voice crackled from strain, eyes half lidded and staring into space. He sighed, gaze drifting somewhere to the left. “...I lost the rest somewhere on the way here. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha.”
“Wally…” The rabbit sat beside him, knowing both that it was useless and needed. Anxious tendrils dug into his stomach, knowing what happened last time Wally sang and laughed. The thumping. The ichor and tears.
