EXLCUSIVE INTERVEIW WITH HAJIME HINATA- HOPE'S PEAK RESERVE STUDENT RECOUNTS THE EVENTS AFTER BEING FREED FROM VIRTUAL REALITY KILLING GAME.
Hajime Hinata tells us about ex- ultimate yakuza, Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu's, reactions after exiting the Neo World Programme.
[Hinata]- Fuyuhiko? Yeah, when we got out he went straight to [Pekoyama's] little capsule thing. She didn't get up straight away like us [us: Hajime Hinata, Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu, Sonia Nevermind, Akane Owari, Kazuichi Soda]. He was so distraught, you know? He tried to climb back into the capsule and turn in back on. I remember he sorta half screamed, half cried that he didn't want to live in the real world if Pekoyama couldn't be alive again. We had to hold him back...
[Hinata]- ...it was really hard. You know, hard to watch the tough guy cry like that. I mean, we saw him cry when... yeah, well, when that happened... [that- Pekoyama's death inside the Neo World Programme] it was almost worse this time. Because it was kinda like she had died twice to him.
[Hinata pauses, glancing away from the interviewers].
[Hinata]- We had to keep an eye on him all the time, to make sure he wouldn't try to go back. The others [the remaining students in class 78] started waking up after a little while- like, on the same day. Some of them, anyway. I remember Gundham was first- gradually everyone started coming. After a week and a little bit, nearly everyone was out. It took a while.
[Hinata]- Every time somebody would get up, we'd all be super happy and go greet them, welcome them back, and such- he never moved from Peko's side to go greet anybody. Mahiru came over at one point after she got up, and he looked at her with so much guilt- he said sorry to her, I think. I didn't really hear it.
[Hinata]- I think it gave him some sort of hope, everyone else getting up. [By that point] everyone was out, except Pekoyama, [REDACTED] and Tsumiki. I don't know why it took so long for them... different people react in different ways, I guess?
[Hinata]- We brought him food and water and things, but he didn't really eat any of it. It always just sat there, piling up, and eventually we would take the plates that were still filled away. It worried us, you know? Especially Kazuichi, because I think those two got quite close. He often begged him to eat. He really only ate enough to stay alive. Some felt bad, others didn't... it was kinda scary.
[Hinata]- [By this point] a few weeks had past. Like, maybe two? We starter needing to do other things. Pekoyama was the only one left- not everyone wanted to stay in that little room all the time. We tried to help people who had been affected by [THE TRAGEDY], but Fuyuhiko never left Pekoyama, he always stayed. Kazuichi would stay to keep an eye on him, to make sure he wasn't doing anything, you know, bad.
[Hinata]- You could tell it was really hard for him. I mean- everyone had gotten their friends back at this point, it was just him. Just Pekoyama who hadn't gotten up yet. It was like torture for him. I guess it probably made him feel more guilty.
[Hinata]- One day [*laughter*] ...yeah, one day Tsumiki asked him what he would do when she got up. He looked up at her with kinda teary eyes and he said weakly, "I dunno, prob'ly shake her had and thank her," or something like that. Akane had been listening, and [*laughter*] she shouted "Booo! Smack her ass!" You know? I think she was trying to be funny, she always thought that Fuyuhiko had some sort of a crush on Peko. He took in the wrong way though, and he tried to hit her. He was so... so pissed. Thank god for Kazuichi, he held him back.
[Hinata]- It felt like forever, you know? He was frail, because he wasn't eating or sleeping well. He was so weak, it was hard to watch. She did get up, eventually. It was so painfully slow, and to make it worse, Fuyuhiko was actually asleep when she got out. She was was talking to Koizumi, I think, and he must of heard her voice- he jolted awake really quick- you could see the relief on his face. He started crying, actually. It was weird to see him so vulnerable. And he actually hugged her, she cried too. It wasn't like him, but we were all glad, you know? [*laughter*] Then he told us all to piss of so he could talk to her. He started eating and stuff normally after that.
[Interveiw terminated]
Do you think you’d ever be able to play any kind of VR game? Considering everything that happened with the Neo World Program.
I do not think I would want to.
